Eagles fine WR Cooper for racial slur

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Eagles fined wide receiver Riley Cooper an undisclosed amount after racially insensitive comments he made at a concert last month came to light.

Video surfaced Wednesday of the 25-year-old Florida product uttering a racial slur while at a Kenny Chesney concert in Philadelphia.

"We are shocked and appalled by Riley Cooper's words," Eagles owner Jeffery Lurie said in a statement. "This sort of behavior or attitude from anyone has no role in a civil society. He has accepted responsibility for his words and his actions. He has been fined for this incident."

Cooper had 23 receptions for 248 yards and three touchdowns last season, but is expected to have an increased role this year to help fill a void left at the receiver position after Jeremy Maclin went down with a season-ending knee injury on Saturday.

"I am so ashamed and disgusted with myself," Cooper said in a statement. "I want to apologize. I have been offensive. I have apologized to my coach, to Jeffrey Lurie, to Howie Roseman and to my teammates. I owe an apology to the fans and to this community. I am so ashamed, but there are no excuses. What I did was wrong and I will accept the consequences."
