Stoudemire primed for big year

Amare Stoudemire should be in line for another good year.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - With news that Amare Stoudemire's detached-retina surgery recovery is going well, fantasy owners will once again have to put the Phoenix scoring-machine high on their wish list for 2009-10.

It was the second piece of good news for fantasy owners. The other was that Steve Nash, point guard extraordinaire for the Suns, had signed a two-year extension to stay in the desert.

Add on top of that, the info that Coach Alvin Gentry has told the team they will return to the "up tempo" game and you have the makings of a great year, fantasy-wise, in Phoenix. Whether the return to the up and down game gives them a chance to beat the Los Angeles Lakers doesn't matter, it's great news for fantasy players who love to see Stoudemire's points-per-game average rise along with Nash's assist total.

I'm still a bit concerned that the Suns haven't gotten together with Stoudemire's people to work out an extension, but apparently they are waiting to make sure his eye is completely healthy before plunking down a "whole lotta cash" that it will take to keep him in Arizona when his current contract is complete (2010).

And to be sure, there are a lot of potential bidders for his services amassing cash and cap space for Stoudemire starting with a team in New York who's coach used to be in Phoenix - Mike D'Antoni. If the Knicks can't land LeBron James, Stoudemire would be a pretty good "consolation prize."

In May, Stoudemire commented to a New York Post reporter that "he would seriously consider joining the Knicks."

Stoudemire's Average Draft Position (ADP) in 2008 was 3.6 and though he was a little disappointing last year, it will likely take that kind of pick to land him on your roster in 2009.
