Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
I know it's getting late in the 2008-09 NBA fantasy season and your attention might be waning, what with the baseball season just around the corner and the NCAA tournament going on, but did you happen to see what Spencer Hawes did the other night?
On Sunday night against the Philadelphia 76ers, Hawes was one assist away from a triple-double. And it was his second straight big game, coming off an 18-point, 13-rebound, five assist effort in New York.
For the season, Hawes has had borderline fantasy value putting up 10.8 ppg and 7.0 rpg. In the month of March, however, Hawes as increased his scoring to 15.7 ppg. And since the trade of starting center Brad Miller to Chicago, Hawes has averaged 13.4 ppg, 8.4 rpg and 3.0 apg.
The statistics since the trade compare favorably to those of Shawn Marion, Luis Scola or before he was injured - Andrew Bynum. This finish could the first sign of a big 2009-10 season for the University of Washington product.
In the meantime, he's owned in just 65% of the leagues. If you are in need of some rebounding and double figure scoring down the stretch, Hawes might just be the guy to put you over the top.
