Malone to work with Jazz as part-time coach

Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Utah Jazz legend Karl Malone will return to the team he spent nearly his entire Hall of Fame career with as a special assistant coach for the upcoming 2013-14 season, head coach Tyrone Corbin announced Wednesday.

Specifically, Malone will work with young forwards Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter, as well as the team's other big men, on as-needed basis.

"It is great to have Karl as a resource for the team," said Corbin. "He is one of the most talented big men to have ever played this game."

Malone spent all but one of his 19 pro seasons with the Jazz and was named an All-Star in 14 of those campaigns. The NBA's second-leading all-time scorer was twice named the league's MVP during that period, and helped lead Utah to back-to-back NBA Finals appearances in 1997 and 1998.

The now 49-year-old, who accumulated 36,928 points during his career, also had his number retired by the Jazz in 2006.
