Description: Padres starter Josh Johnson will undergo Tommy John surgery Thursday, according to Corey Brock of mlb.com.
Insight: It's the second time Johnson has had to undergo the surgery. He had a pitiful 6.20 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP while going 2-8 in 81 1/3 innings for the Blue Jays last season and may never throw an inning for San Diego because he's on a one-year deal.

Description: San Diego starter Josh Johnson will have his forearm and elbow examined by Dr. James Andrews next week, according to Jeff Sanders of the Union-Tribune.
Insight: Johnson was placed on the DL in late March with a forearm strain. He had a pitiful 6.20 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP while going 2-8 in 81 1/3 innings for the Blue Jays last season. Padres GM Josh Byrnes said he's "not sure" if Johnson will pitch this year.

3/22/2014 7:10:00 PM
Description: San Diego starter Josh Johnson will miss 4-5 weeks with a flexor strain in his right forearm, according to Corey Brock.
Insight: Terrible news for Johnson, who had a pitiful 6.20 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP while going 2-8 in 81 1/3 innings for the Blue Jays last season. San Diego also learned Saturday that Joe Wieland (elbow) will be out until the All-Star break, and Cory Luebke had to undergo a second Tommy John surgery this offseason. Robbie Erlin will probably take Johnson's spot in the rotation.

Description: The Josh Johnson sweepstakes is over. The former Marlins and Blue Jays righthander is headed to San Diego on a one-year contract. SOURCE: ESPN.com
Insight: He'll earn $8 million next season. It's a nice haul for Johnson after his miserable 2013 campaign. A bounceback year, which seems inevitable given Petco Park's pitcher-friendly reputation, could earn Johnson an even bigger payday when he hits the market again next winter.

11/19/2013 6:26:00 PM
Description: According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's Travis Sawchik, the Pirates are one of the team's righthander Josh Johnson is considering.
Insight: He'd be a nice replacement for A.J. Burnett, assuming Pittsburgh can get him for relatively cheap. 2013 was arguably the worst season of Johnson's career (2-8, 6.20 ERA) but injuries certainly played a role in his struggles. Pitching coach Ray Searage is no stranger to reclamation projects. Last season, Twins castoff Francisco Liriano became a Cy Young candidate under Searage's tutelage.

Description: Free agent righthander Josh Johnson is already being pursued by the Royals. SOURCE: Buster Olney, ESPN
Insight: Well, at least somebody wants him. Johnson (2-8, 6.20 ERA) was terrible last season and has had tremendous difficulty staying healthy throughout his career. Kansas City would be crazy to give him anything longer than a one-year deal.

10/2/2013 8:27:00 PM
Description: Toronto starter Josh Johnson underwent a procedure to remove bone spurs from his right elbow on Tuesday morning. SOURCE: MLB Trade Rumors
Insight: The ailment would explain why Johnson struggled so mightily during his first season with the Blue Jays (2-8, 6.20 ERA). Given his history of injuries and how poorly he pitched in 2013, he's going to be a tough sell on draft day next March.

Description: Blue Jays starter Josh Johnson will miss the rest of the season with a strained forearm. SOURCE: BlueJays.com
Insight: It's not exactly breaking news but it's still worth passing along. After being a perennial All-Star throughout most of his tenure with the Marlins, Johnson's first year in Toronto was his worst yet (2-8, 6.20 ERA). To make matters worse, the injuries just keep piling on. Maybe Johnson will turn things around in 2013 but more likely, he'll continue to disappoint.

Insight: He'll be shut down for at least the next two weeks. With the Blue Jays unlikely to make the playoffs, Johnson (2-8, 6.20 ERA) may just sit out the rest of the season.

8/13/2013 6:08:00 PM
Description: The Blue Jays placed Josh Johnson on the 15-day disabled list with a right forearm injury.
Insight: Johnson threw five scoreless innings his last time on the mound after allowing 43 runs (37 earned) on 56 hits in his previous 37 1/3 innings. He has a 6.20 ERA in 81 1/3 innings this season.

Cold7/27/2013 4:25:00 PM
Description: Blue Jays right-hander Josh Johnson dropped to 1-7 after allowing seven runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings Saturday against the Astros.
Insight: If Johnson can't be trusted against the lowly Astros, he can't be trusted against anybody. The righty has allowed 19 earned runs in 13 2/3 innings over his last three starts and owns a 6.08 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP this season. It's time to move on.

7/17/2013 6:04:00 PM
Description: According to Yahoo's Jeff Passan, the Blue Jays aren't looking to trade starter Josh Johnson.
Insight: With the way he's been pitching, the Jays wouldn't be able to get much in return for him. Johnson's 5.16 ERA is his highest since 2007. The slumping righthander will make his first start of the second half next week against the Dodgers.

7/9/2013 10:14:00 PM
Description: Blue Jays pitcher Josh Johnson had his best start since June 17 Tuesday with seven innings of three-hit baseball versus the Indians, but he still lost his fourth game of the season.
Insight: Johnson allowed two runs in seven innings and the Blue Jays were shut out. The right-hander has a 4.62 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP through 60 1/3 innings this season.

Hot6/17/2013 10:19:00 PM
Description: It's been a tough year for Josh Johnson but on Monday, the Blue Jays starter looked like an ace.
Insight: The tall righthander fired 7 1/3 shutout frames, scattering five hits and two walks. He finished with a season-high ten strikeouts. After generating a 6.86 ERA in his first four starts, Johnson has turned things around by allowing just four runs in his last three outings (1.86 ERA).

Description: Toronto righthander Josh Johnson had his start pushed back again. Now he'll pitch on Monday against the Rockies. SOURCE: Scott MacArthur, TSN
Insight: Johnson was originally supposed to go on Saturday but he swapped days with R.A. Dickey to give his blister an extra day to heal. Instead, he'll get the ball on Monday with Chien-Ming Wang filling in Sunday versus Texas.

Description: Blue Jays righthander Josh Johnson is having his next start pushed back because of a blister. SOURCE: Gregor Chisholm, MLB.com
Insight: R.A. Dickey will now start Saturday with Johnson getting the ball on Sunday. Johnson (5.40 ERA) is winless in six starts this season.

6/9/2013 6:07:00 PM
Description: Toronto starter Josh Johnson has a 5.40 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP in 31 2/3 innings this season.
Insight: Johnson spent all of May on the disabled list with a triceps injury. He's clearly no longer the pitcher he was from 2009-11, when he went 29-12 with a 2.64 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP in 70 starts; now he'll have to prove if he can even be as good as he was in 2012 (8-14, 3.81 ERA, 1.28 WHIP). If he doesn't improve by the All-Star break, fantasy owners can move on.

5/31/2013 10:03:00 PM
Description: Toronto starter Josh Johnson will come off the disabled list Tuesday to face the Giants. SOURCE: CBS Sports
Insight: He's been sidelined since late April with a triceps injury. Johnson is 0-1 this season with a 6.86 ERA in four starts. The righthander has never beaten the Giants (0-3, 3.46 ERA in six career starts).

5/21/2013 1:26:00 PM
Description: Blue Jays starter Josh Johnson (triceps) made it through his first rehab assignment Monday without incident. He pitched three innings and struck out five batters.
Insight: He'll pitch at least once more, and more likely twice, before rejoining the Toronto rotation.

5/18/2013 4:35:00 PM
Description: The Blue Jays' goal for Josh Johnson (triceps) will start his rehab assignment Monday with High-A Dunedin, according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca.
Insight: Johnson is dealing with inflammation in his triceps and has been on the DL since the end of April. He'll pitch two or three games before rejoining the rotation.
