Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
On Tuesday Capitals' coach Bruce Boudreau announced he was breaking up the team's top line and placing Nicklas Backstrom on a second line with Brooks Laich and Alexander Semin. Superstar Alex Ovechkin will be joined on the top line by center Brendan Morrison and winger Mike Knuble.
After "paying" top dollar for Backstrom (ADP 22) and Semin (ADP 15), it's hard to imagine worse news for his fantasy owners. Backstrom was off to a hot start, 10 points (2G, 8A) in six games, but the team's record is just 2-4. The Capitals have scored 22 goals, with the top line netting 12 of them.
"We would like to get all four lines scoring, but definitely more than one," Boudreau said in a Washington Post article. "I tinkered with it today, and I might change again tomorrow.
On the other hand, for Morrison, a center who scored goals (16) and assists (15) in 81 games with Anaheim and Dallas last year, it's a dream come true. He'll get to play alongside the most explosive weapon in the league. And the good news, if you hurry, is that Morrison is owned in less than 10% of all leagues.
It's also good news for Mike Knuble owners, who has two goals and one assist so far this season. But he's owned in about 75% of all leagues, so it's unlikely he's available to be picked up on waivers.
