Mike Green leads all defensemen in scoring with 67 points.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
Mike Green posted two more assists on Friday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning, setting a career high with 39 helpers to go along with his career high 28 goals.
It was "just another week" for the Washington Capitals defenseman, who has totaled five goals and four assists in the last six games.
Green has become the fantasy elite, leading all defensemen in scoring with 67 points. Not bad for a guy who just two years ago scored a grand total of 12 points and even last season totaled 56 points.
In preseason rankings, Green was listed at No.4 behind Detroit Red Wings' Nicklas Lidstrom, Dion Phaneuf of Calgary and Sergei Gonchar of Pittsburgh, but none of those drafted above Green has outplayed him. Add in a +24 plus/minus and 60 penalty minutes and you have the complete defenseman.
This last six-game push might just be what puts you over the top and if it does, you'll need to thank the 23-year-old by drafting him as the first defenseman in the 2009-10 draft.
In an interesting side note, Green is particularly deadly on Saturday nights where he has collected nine of his 28 scores and 17 points in 17 games. He has been a consistent scorer throughout the year as the numbers below will attest.
If you were one of the owners who picked another defenseman in front of Green, particularly Gonchar who has played just 18 games and scored 15 points, you are definitely feeling envious of Green's owner.
