Westbrook dropping in drafts

Brian Westbrook's overall ADP has fallen from 5.7 on June 15th to 7.6 on August 17th.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook has been a top-five pick in NFL fantasy drafts over the past two seasons, but it appears that owners are looking elsewhere for 2009.

In the most recent RapidDraft ADP Report, Westbrook's overall ADP (Average Draft Position) has fallen from 5.7 on June 15th to 7.6 on August 17th. That is a pretty big dip in eight weeks for the soon-to-be 30-year-old running back.

There are two obvious reasons for the drop in numbers.

1) The Eagles star running back had surgery to remove scar tissue and bone fragments from his right ankle in June 2009. He also had his left knee cleaned out shortly after the Eagles lost the 2009 NFC championship game. Because of these medical problems, Westbrook hadn't been on the practice field this summer until late last week.

2) Eagles 2009 No.2 draft choice (53rd overall), LeSean McCoy, has looked good in training camp. He's got great vision, he's an excellent receiver and he makes big plays. McCoy is a legitimate threat to take carries away from Westbrook, unlike Correll Buckhalter, who was simple an adequate fill-in when the star needed a rest or was injured.

Keeping these factors in mind, it's a legitimate concern for those drafting Westbrook in the first round of this year's drafts. If you decide to make the commitment to the 2001 Walter Payton Award winner, you should definitely "handcuff" McCoy with Westbrook.

McCoy's current RapidDraft ADP is 100.6, meaning you will likely have to use a 10th or 11th-round pick to get him.

Fantasy owners have obviously taken note and moved a "shared backfield" running back in front of Westbrook, TSN's 2008 Fantasy Football MVP, DeAngelo Williams.
