San Jose Sharks Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Brent Burns, RW9/19/2014 9:43:00 PM
Description: San Jose head coach Todd McLellan confirms that the team sees Brent Burns as a defenseman and not a forward according to CSN Bay Area.
Insight: Both Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau said they would like to see Burns return to forward, but their head coach does not agree. Being that the Sharks lost Dan Boyle and Brad Stuart this offseason, it is probably best for the team leaving Burns on the blue line.
Raffi Torres, LW8/21/2014 12:49:00 PM
Description: San Jose winger Raffi Torres will miss the first few months of the season because of an infection he developed after surgery to his right knee according to David Pollack of Mercury News.

Description: San Jose center Logan Couture underwent surgery on his hand last week, according to the Associated Press.

Brent Burns, RW5/15/2014 9:41:00 PM
Description: The Sharks are planning to move Brent Burns back to defense next season. SOURCE: David Pollak, Mercury News
Insight: Burns actually did pretty well at forward in 2013-14, contributing 22 goals and 26 assists in 69 games. His 245 shots on goal were a career-high. Because of his knack for scoring, we'd expect Burns to be one of the better defensemen in fantasy hockey next season.
Antti Niemi, G4/30/2014 6:07:00 PM
Description: San Jose netminder Antti Niemi will start Game 7 of the Sharks' playoff series against the Kings on Wednesday.
Insight: San Jose has allowed Los Angeles to tie the series after leading 3-0. Niemi was pulled in both Game 4 and 5 after allowing eight goals and San Jose started Alex Stalock in Game 6.

Description: San Jose defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic may not play Monday after suffering an upper body injury in Saturday's loss to Los Angeles. SOURCE: Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area
Insight: Vlasic (five goals, 19 assists in 81 regular season games) hasn't been given an official diagnosis but from the looks of it, he may have suffered a concussion. The Sharks could certainly use him Monday as they look to close out the series.
Patrick Marleau, CHot4/23/2014 10:19:00 AM
Description: San Jose center Patrick Marleau scored again Tuesday in a victory over Los Angeles.
Insight: He poked home the game-winner six minutes into the first overtime period. San Jose has outscored L.A. 17-8 for the series. Marleau and the Sharks can close out the Kings Thursday in Game 4.
Joe Pavelski, C4/13/2014 9:43:00 AM
Description: Sharks center Joe Pavelski potted two goals Saturday in a win over Phoenix.
Insight: Saturday was Pavelski's ninth multi-goal game of the season. Pavelski was one of 28 players in the league who did not miss game during the regular season. With that being said, it's no wonder he was able to produce career-highs in nearly every offensive statistic (41 goals, 79 points, +23).
Tomas Hertl, C4/11/2014 6:24:00 PM
Description: San Jose rookie center Tomas Hertl (knee surgery) will return to the lineup Friday, according to csnbayarea.com.

Insight: Couture hurt his leg while blocking a shot on Monday and missed the last game. Coach Todd McLellan said after Monday's game that Couture was "fine," but the forward may have to miss a second straight game.
Adam Burish, RW3/26/2014 9:04:00 PM
Description: San Jose right wing Adam Burish will be out indefinitely after dislocating his finger Tuesday in a win over Edmonton. SOURCE: San Jose Mercury News

Insight: After undergoing offseason knee surgery to repair a torn right ACL, Torres didn't make his season debut until Feb. 27. While he produced three goals and two assists in five games before getting knocked out with knee soreness, there's no reason to hold onto him. He hasn't been a high-scoring forward in his career.
Brent Burns, RW3/19/2014 10:20:00 AM
Description: Sharks right wing Brent Burns had two points Tuesday against Florida.
Insight: Burns has scored five goals in his last eight games after failing to get one from Jan. 7 to March 2. He has a career-high 19 goals with 18 assists, 26 PIM, 202 SOG and a +26 in 57 games this season.

Joe Thornton, C3/14/2014 10:08:00 PM
Description: Sharks center Joe Thornton scored his 10th goal of the season Friday against the Islanders.
Insight: With 10 goals, 55 assists and 95 SOG in 68 games, Thornton is a bit one-dimensional, but he dominates the assist category.

Description: Buffalo center Torrey Mitchell is expected to miss a week, according to the team's Twitter announcement.
Insight: Mitchell has one goal and eight assist this season so is a non-factory in the fantasy world.

Description: San Jose center Tommy Wingels potted two goals and attempted eight SOG Saturday against Montreal.
Insight: The 25-year-old has set career highs across the board with 14 goals, 20 assists, 30 PIM, 130 SOG and a +9. He has scored six game-winning goals, tied for seventh in the NHL.

Insight: Everything was going in for San Jose Thursday, as the Sharks put seven goals on the board. The 32-year-old Torres' career-high in points is 41, and that came back in 2005-06. Don't bother picking him up.

Alex Stalock, G2/27/2014 4:58:00 PM
Description: Sharks backup goaltender Alex Stalock will start Thursday against the Flyers, according to csnbayarea.com.
Insight: That will give Antti Niemi another day to get over the jet lag from the Sochi Olympics. Niemi didn't see any action as the third-string goalie behind Tuukka Rask and Kari Lehtonen on Finland's bronze-medal winning team. Stalock has been fantastic as a backup, going 8-4-0 with a 1.67 GAA, a .938 SV% and two shutouts in just 16 starts.

Joe Pavelski, C10/15/2013 10:50:00 PM
Description: Sharks forward Joe Pavelski scored his first goal of the season Tuesday.

Description: Sharks center Logan Couture has three goals and nine points in six games this season.
Insight: Couture scored a goal and had one assist with four SOG Tuesday at St. Louis. After a down year in 2012-13, the 24-year-old should set a new career high in points, besting his 65 in 2011-12.
