Insight: Couture scored the first of three straight goals to win the game as the Sharks won, 5-2. Couture finished plus-two and was tied for the team lead with three shots on net. He has 12 goals and 14 assists this season.
Description: Sharks forward Joe Pavelski scored two goals to help San Joes score three unanswered goals and win, 5-2, over the Oilers.
Insight: Pavelski scored the first goal of the game and then the second of three straight in the second and third period as the Sharks broke the, 2-2, tie. The second goal for Pavelski was on the power play. Unfortunately, despite the two scores, Pavelski was still minus-one.
Description: Sharks goalie Alex Stalock will start on Tuesday for the second straight game.
Insight: Regular starting goaltender Antti Niemi was supposed to start the home-and-home series with the Oilers, but Stalock draws the start Tuesday instead. Since no one really knows why, Niemi owners might feel a bit uneasy.
Description: Sharks center Logan Couture scored a pair of goals on Saturday.
Insight: Couture scored the first two goals of the game for San Jose, first an even-strength goal and then a shorthanded goal about four and a half minutes later. Couture has 10 goals and 11 assists in 25 games this season.
Description: Sharks forward Joe Pavelski is moving to the third line according to CSN Bay Area.
Insight: Pavelski will play with Tommy Wingels and Chris Tierney on Saturday. Pavelski has four goals and four assists in eight games to start the year, but coach Todd McLellan wants to improve the team's defense.
Description: Sharks center Logan Couture had a big game in Tuesday's loss to the Bruins.
Insight: He scored two goals, and also had a superb eight shots on goal. However since the Sharks gave up five goals, Couture was -2 on the night. Joe Thornton added San Jose's third goal on the night, his second of the season.
Description: Sharks center Logan Couture scored a goal and has two assist in a victory over the Devils, on Saturday.
Insight: Couture had his first assist and goal on the power play as San Jose jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the end of the second period. Couture then assisted Patrick Marleau's goal as the Sharks led 3-0. The Devils battled back to score the next two goals before allowing an empty netter.
Description: Sharks goalie Alex Stalock played well in Thursday's shootout loss.
Insight: He stopped 42-of-45 shots, and has played well in both of his starts this season. Antti Niemi is the Sharks number one goalie, but has a short leash, and Stalock will continue to be waiting in the wings.
Description: San Jose center Patrick Marleau produces another two points on Saturday against Winnipeg.
Insight: After recording a goal and an assist in the opener, Marleau was back at it again, with another goal and assist, along with four shots on goal. He is now +3 on the season, with two penalty minutes as well.
Description: Sharks goalie Alex Stalock pitched a shutout in first start of the season.
Insight: After Antti Niemi shut out the Kings on opening night, Stalock matched his counterpart. He stopped all 30 shots he faced, and now owners will need to keep an eye on Stalock, to see if he becomes a relevant fantasy player.
Description: San Jose winger-turned-defensemen Brent Burns will be a highly sought after fantasy value in 2014-15 because of his dual eligibilty.
Insight: He can be productive at either position and will be on the top blueline pairing along with power play unit work. He posted 48 points last season and we still think he can post 42 points from the blueline.
Description: San Jose center Patrick Marleau is a solid points producer and shows up for every game, both characteristics that fantasy owners love.
Insight: Marleau has played every game for the past five seasons and cracked the 70-point barrier in three of them. Playing with Logan Couture and Matthew Nieto on the second line should provide him with enough talent to continue to be a valuable fantasy asset.
Description: Sharks forward Joe Pavelski posted 41 goals last season, but fantasy owners may not get quite that much out of him in 2014-15.
Insight: Pavelski scored on 18.2 percent of his shots, but far the best in the league and well above his career average of 11.1 percent. we have him scheduled to play on the right wing with Joe Thornton and Tomas Hertl and are projecting 36 goals and 32 assists.
Description: Sharks center Joe Thornton sometimes gets overlooked, but his consistent numbers will help any fantasy lineup.
Insight: With 11 goals, 65 assists and 122 SOG in 82 games, Thornton is a bit one-dimensional, but he dominates the assist category, finishing ahead of everyone except the great Sidney Crosby in that category. Fantasy owners also have to like he's played every game in six of the past eight seasons.
Description: San Jose second-year forward Tomas Hertl (knee surgery) was putting up monster rookie numbers before the injury (25 points in 37 games).
Insight: The soon-to-be 21-year-old Hertl is expected to play on the left wing alongside stars Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski which means if his right knee can take the punishment of a lot of minutes he could be a 60-plus point scorer. We say the team doesn't overuse him and he puts up a respectable 51 points.
Description: Defenseman Brad Stuart has agreed to a two-year, $7.2 million contract extension with Colorado.
Insight: This does not really effect fantasy owners. He had just 11 points in 61 games with San Jose last season. Colorado traded a 2016 second round pick and 2017 sixth round selection to acquire him. He is not fantasy relevant.
Description: San Jose head coach Todd McLellan confirms that the team sees Brent Burns as a defenseman and not a forward according to CSN Bay Area.
Insight: Both Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau said they would like to see Burns return to forward, but their head coach does not agree. Being that the Sharks lost Dan Boyle and Brad Stuart this offseason, it is probably best for the team leaving Burns on the blue line.
Description: San Jose center Logan Couture underwent surgery on his hand last week, according to the Associated Press.
Insight: Couture hurt his hand fighting with Mike Richards of the Kings in Game 6 of San Jose's first-round playoff series, which the Kings won after coming back from a 3-0 deficit. He's expected to be fully recovered by training camp.
Description: The Sharks are planning to move Brent Burns back to defense next season. SOURCE: David Pollak, Mercury News
Insight: Burns actually did pretty well at forward in 2013-14, contributing 22 goals and 26 assists in 69 games. His 245 shots on goal were a career-high. Because of his knack for scoring, we'd expect Burns to be one of the better defensemen in fantasy hockey next season.
Description: San Jose defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic may not play Monday after suffering an upper body injury in Saturday's loss to Los Angeles. SOURCE: Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area
Insight: Vlasic (five goals, 19 assists in 81 regular season games) hasn't been given an official diagnosis but from the looks of it, he may have suffered a concussion. The Sharks could certainly use him Monday as they look to close out the series.
Description: Sharks center Joe Pavelski potted two goals Saturday in a win over Phoenix.
Insight: Saturday was Pavelski's ninth multi-goal game of the season. Pavelski was one of 28 players in the league who did not miss game during the regular season. With that being said, it's no wonder he was able to produce career-highs in nearly every offensive statistic (41 goals, 79 points, +23).
Description: San Jose rookie center Tomas Hertl (knee surgery) will return to the lineup Friday, according to csnbayarea.com.
Insight: The 20-year-old Hertl suffered damage to his MCL and PCL in a knee-on-knee collision with Kings forward Dustin Brown on Dec. 19 and hasn't played since. He was one of the favorites for the Calder Trophy with 15 goals and 10 assists in his first 35 games.
Description: San Jose left wing Raffi Torres (sore right knee) isn't expected to play Friday.
Insight: After undergoing offseason knee surgery to repair a torn right ACL, Torres didn't make his season debut until Feb. 27 and he played just five games before experiencing soreness. He last played on March 8.
Description: San Jose center Logan Couture (leg) is questionable for Thursday's game against Winnipeg. According to csnbayarea.com, the forward will warm up and said he is "50-50" to play.
Insight: Couture hurt his leg while blocking a shot on Monday and missed the last game. Coach Todd McLellan said after Monday's game that Couture was "fine," but the forward may have to miss a second straight game.
Description: San Jose right wing Adam Burish will be out indefinitely after dislocating his finger Tuesday in a win over Edmonton. SOURCE: San Jose Mercury News
Insight: Burish suffered the injury while blocking a shot. He's already had a procedure on his hand and could miss the rest of the season. Injuries have limited the 31-year-old to just 15 contests in 2013-14.
Description: San Jose center Joe Pavelski had his third hat trick since Jan. 18 Tuesday against Edmonton.
Insight: Pavelski (37 G, 34 A) hadn't scored a goal in his past seven games. He has had three multi-goal games totaling eight goals in his last 18 contests, but produced zero goals in the other 15 games in that span. Pavelski is tied for second in the NHL in goals.
Description: San Jose left wing Raffi Torres (sore right knee) has missed seven straight games.
Insight: After undergoing offseason knee surgery to repair a torn right ACL, Torres didn't make his season debut until Feb. 27. While he produced three goals and two assists in five games before getting knocked out with knee soreness, there's no reason to hold onto him. He hasn't been a high-scoring forward in his career.
Description: Sharks right wing Brent Burns had two points Tuesday against Florida.
Insight: Burns has scored five goals in his last eight games after failing to get one from Jan. 7 to March 2. He has a career-high 19 goals with 18 assists, 26 PIM, 202 SOG and a +26 in 57 games this season.
Description: San Jose left wing Raffi Torres is expected to play Sunday against the Rangers. Torres has been out with general soreness. SOURCE: San Jose Mercury News
Insight: Offseason knee surgery has limited Torres to just five games this season. In those five contests, Torres (three goals, two assists) has averaged ten and a half minutes of ice time per game. Torres is owned in only 1.1 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues.
Description: Sharks left wing Raffi Torres (soreness) will be a game-time decision Tuesday, according to csnbayarea.com.
Insight: Torres has picked up three goals and two assists as well as seven PIM and nine SOG in five games since he returned from a torn ACL, but fantasy owners shouldn't expect that scoring pace to continue.
Description: Sharks right wing Brent Burns scored his first goal since Jan. 5 Tuesday against the Hurricanes.
Insight: Burns only has eight points in his last 24 games, bringing him to 31 points in 50 games this season. With 177 SOG and a +22 rating he's still a fantasy option, especially if he has blue-line eligibility in your league.
Description: Sharks left wing Raffi Torres (surgery to repair a torn ACL in September) scored two goals in his season debut Thursday against the Flyers.
Insight: Everything was going in for San Jose Thursday, as the Sharks put seven goals on the board. The 32-year-old Torres' career-high in points is 41, and that came back in 2005-06. Don't bother picking him up.
Description: Sharks backup goaltender Alex Stalock will start Thursday against the Flyers, according to csnbayarea.com.
Insight: That will give Antti Niemi another day to get over the jet lag from the Sochi Olympics. Niemi didn't see any action as the third-string goalie behind Tuukka Rask and Kari Lehtonen on Finland's bronze-medal winning team. Stalock has been fantastic as a backup, going 8-4-0 with a 1.67 GAA, a .938 SV% and two shutouts in just 16 starts.
Description: San Jose rookie center Tomas Hertl (knee surgery) may start skating this week, GM Doug Wilson said. SOURCE: csnbayarea.com
Insight: The 20-year-old Hertl was the favorite to win Rookie of the Year with 15 goals and 10 assists in his first 35 games before suffering damage to his MCL and PCL on a knee-on-knee collision with Kings forward Dustin Brown. It's unclear if he'll be able to return this season.
Description: San Jose forward Tyler Kennedy (lower body) is listed as probable for Wednesday's game, according to csnbayarea.com.
Insight: He was listed as probable for Monday's game and didn't play, so it's hard to trust the probable designation in this case. Kennedy has four goals, 15 points, 28 PIM and 115 SOG in 49 games this season.
Description: Sharks center Joe Pavelski scored three goals in a span of seven minutes Saturday for his first career hat trick.
Insight: That gives Pavelski seven goals in his last six games and 25 for the season. That ties him with Patrick Sharp, Martin St. Louis and Sidney Crosby for third in the NHL. Pavelski is just six goals away from tying his career-high, which he set during the 2011-12 campaign (31 goals in 82 games that season).
Description: Sharks center Logan Couture, who underwent hand surgery on Jan. 8, was already back on the ice skating Friday.
Insight: The original timetable was that he would miss 3-4 weeks and that's still the case. But its good to see he's keeping the rest of his body ready to go as soon as the hand heals. Couture has 14 goals, 21 assists, 157 SOG and a +13 rating, so fantasy owners hope he'll be back on schedule in early February.
Description: Sharks backup goaltender Alex Stalock came through with a 24-save shutout of the Panthers Thursday night.
Insight: Stalock hasn't been asked to play much behind Antti Niemi -- Thursday was just his seventh start of the season -- but he has answered the call when he's received the chance to play. The 26-year-old improved to 6-2 with a 1.80 GAA and a .938 SV% with the shutout.
Description: Sharks center Logan Couture underwent hand surgery on Wednesday. SOURCE: Associated Press
Insight: San Jose has been cryptic about the specifics, calling Couture's ailment an "upper-body" injury. Whatever it is, it's going to sideline him indefinitely. Fantasy owners will need to look elsewhere for the time being.
Description: San Jose rookie center Tomas Hertl won't be ready in time for February's Winter Olympics. SOURCE: NHL.com
Insight: Hertl was hoping to play for the Czech Republic but his knee operation scheduled for next week has made that impossible. The 20-year-old had been the favorite to win Rookie of the Year before his injury.
