Arizona Cardinals Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Antonio Cromartie, CB3/20/2014 3:25:00 PM
Description: Former Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie has agreed to a one-year deal with Arizona. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Cromartie (38 tackles, three interceptions for the Jets last season) will set up shop across from All-Pro cornerback Patrick Peterson. Arizona's secondary should be among the best in the league next season.
Ted Ginn Jr., WR3/13/2014 7:07:00 PM
Description: Ted Ginn signed a three-year contract with the Cardinals on Thursday.
Insight: Ginn will return kicks and replace Andre Roberts (signed with the Redskins) as Arizona's third receiver. He had 36 catches for 556 yards and five touchdowns last season, but it's wishful thinking that he'll approach those numbers with the Cardinals.
Jay Feely, K3/11/2014 8:48:00 PM
Description: Arizona was able to re-sign kicker Jay Feely to a one-year, $1.02 million contract. SOURCE: Cardinals on Twitter
Insight: Feely ranked 12th among fantasy kickers last season. The 30 field goals he made were his most since 2009. Next season will be his 14th in the NFL.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB3/9/2014 9:33:00 PM
Description: Rashard Mendenhall made his retirement official on Sunday.
Insight: Mendenhall made the accouncement in a column he wrote for the Huffington Post. At age 26, Mendenhall (4,236 rushing yards in 72 career games) says he's already accomplished everything he wanted to in the game of football. He plans to pursue a career in writing.
John Carlson, TE3/7/2014 8:18:00 PM
Description: Former Vikings and Seahawks tight end John Carlson has reached a two-year, $4.65 million agreement with the Cardinals. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL Network
Insight: That didn't take long. Carlson was released by Minnesota less than 48 hours ago. Carlson has never caught more than 55 passes in any of his five seasons in the league. We doubt that changes in Arizona.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB2/25/2014 7:11:00 PM
Description: Former Steelers and Cardinals halfback Rashard Mendenhall is considering retirement.
Insight: Mendenhall hinted at calling it quits in a blog post he wrote for the Huffington Post. This would be a disappointing end to what was once a promising career. The first-round pick from Illinois logged back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2009 and 2010 but hasn't come close to that level of production in his last three seasons (687 yards, eight TD in 2013).
Larry Fitzgerald, WR2/4/2014 5:31:00 PM
Description: Larry Fitzgerald has given the Cardinals some financial flexibility by agreeing to a restructured deal.
Insight: Fitzgerald tweeted this information on Tuesday and the news was confirmed by the Cardinals' official website. We don't know how much cap relief Fitzgerald's new deal will provide though the eight-time Pro Bowler was originally scheduled to earn $12.75 million in 2014.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR1/28/2014 8:20:00 PM
Description: The Patriots were reportedly interested in trading for Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald in 2013. SOURCE: Tom Curran, Comcast Sportsnet New England
Insight: It's unknown if New England is considering another run at Fitz though he would fill a huge need for the Pats at wide receiver. Fitzgerald would make for an excellent complement to Julian Edelman on the outside. A trio of Fitzgerald, Edelman and Rob Gronkowski could be deadly. We'll see if the Patriots make a play for Fitzgerald or if they stand pat with their current group of receivers featuring Edelman, Aaron Dobson, Kenbrell Thompkins, Austin Collie and Danny Amendola.
Carson Palmer, QB12/29/2013 8:15:00 PM
Description: Arizona QB Carson Palmer turned in a gutsy performance Sunday in what turned out to be the Cardinals' final game of the season.
Insight: He threw for 407 yards on 28-of-49 passing. It was Palmer's second 400-yard game of the season. Arizona finished the year at 10-6, one game out of the final wild card spot. Ironically, Green Bay (8-7-1) and the winner of tonight's Dallas/Philadelphia game will both be going to the postseason despite having a worse record than the Cardinals.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR12/22/2013 2:56:00 PM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald (concussion) will play Sunday against the Seahawks.
Insight: Fitzgerald passed his first round of concussion tests and was able to practice this week. He has 73 receptions, 823 yards and 10 touchdowns in 14 games but he'll have to face Richard Sherman in Week 16. Sherman held him to two receptions for 17 yards when these teams met in October.
Carson Palmer, QB12/22/2013 2:53:00 PM
Description: Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer (elbow) is active for Sunday's game with Seattle.
Insight: Active or not, its not a great matchup facing this tough Seahawks defense.
Andre Ellington, RB12/22/2013 2:46:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington suffered a thigh bruise that kept him off the field in overtime last weekend, but he's active for Week 16.
Insight: Ellington is the more explosive of the two Cardinals running backs. He had 158 yards from scrimmage last week versus Tennessee.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR12/22/2013 10:06:00 AM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald (concussion) is expected to play Sunday against the Seahawks, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR12/20/2013 6:02:00 PM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald (concussion) is officially questionable for Sunday's game, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic.
Insight: He has to pass one more test before he's cleared to play against the Seahawks. Arizona plays at 4:05 p.m. ET, but we should know if he passed before you have to set your lineup.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB12/20/2013 9:55:00 AM
Description: Arizona running back Rashard Mendenhall (finger) was a recent addition to the injury report.
Insight: Mendenhall has played well over the past month despite the shared backfield with Andre Ellington. We don't expect the finger to stop him, but the Seahawks defense is another story. He's not a great play in Week 16.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR12/19/2013 5:23:00 PM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald (concussion) practiced fully on Thursday, according to azcardinals.com. He'll need to pass one last test Friday before he's cleared to play in Week 16, but Fitzgerald is confident he'll pass.
Insight: "This is my first (concussion), uncharted territory for me," Fitzgerald said. "It’s a serious issue, but I want to be out there and play. I will do everything I can to protect myself and my brain, but this is football, a tough sport played by tough men. It’s my job."
Larry Fitzgerald, WR12/18/2013 10:45:00 AM
Description: Cardinals coach Bruce Arians expects concussed wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald to play Sunday against Seattle. SOURCE: Kent Somers, AZCentral.com
Insight: Fitzgerald suffered the injury Sunday while defending an onside kick. He's already passed most of his concussion tests and should be able to play his usual amount of snaps in Week 16. Arizona needs a win to have any hope of making the playoffs.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR12/16/2013 10:29:00 AM
Description: Arizona receiver Larry Fitzgerald suffered a possible concussion on Sunday after catching six balls for 49 yards.
Insight: Thus ends his four-game touchdown streak. Fitzgerald is questionable for Week 16 and will have to go through the league-required protocol. Facing the Seahawks in Seattle isn't a good matchup for anyone in Week 16.
Andre Ellington, RB12/16/2013 9:39:00 AM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington suffered a thigh bruise that kept him off the field in overtime, but says it isn't too serious, according to the Cardinals' website.
Insight: Ellington didn't get into the end zone, but did combine for 158 yards from scrimmage. He will continue to share time with Rashard Mendenhall, though he is the more explosive half of the duo.
Michael Floyd, WR12/14/2013 11:04:00 AM
Description: According to ESPN's John Clayton, Arizona receiver Michael Floyd isn't in danger of missing Sunday's game against Tennessee despite re-injuring his ankle in last week's win over St. Louis.
Insight: Floyd (56 catches, 886 yards, 4 TD) is closing in on his first 1,000-yard receiving season. He's posted at least 95 yards in three of his last four contests.
Carson Palmer, QB12/14/2013 11:02:00 AM
Description: Ignore the questionable label attached to Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer (elbow). He's going to start Sunday against Tennessee.
Insight: He's carried the questionable label into the last several games and played in all of them. According to ESPN's John Clayton, this week shouldn't be any different. Palmer's 85.6 quarterback rating this season is his highest since 2007.
Michael Floyd, WR12/11/2013 3:10:00 PM
Description: Cardinals wideout Michael Floyd (ankle) missed Wednesday's practice.
Insight: Floyd aggravated his ankle injury in Week 14 against the Rams and had just 26 yards on two catches after reeling in 18 balls for 396 yards and two touchdowns the previous three games. The Titans were torched by Peyton Manning and Denver's receivers in Week 14, but their cornerbacks have been very good this season.
Tyrann Mathieu, S12/9/2013 12:09:00 PM
Description: Cardinals cornerback Tyrann Mathieu tore both his ACL and LCL Sunday against the Rams. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL Network
Insight: He'll miss the remainder of the 2013 campaign. The rookie out of LSU will finish the year with 68 tackles, two interceptions, one sack and one forced fumble in 13 regular season contests.
Andre Ellington, RB12/8/2013 3:25:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington (knee) is active for Sunday's game with St. Louis.
Insight: Ellington will continue to share time with Rashard Mendenhall, though he is the more explosive half of the duo.
Carson Palmer, QB12/8/2013 2:56:00 PM
Description: Carson Palmer will get the start at QB Sunday against the Rams.
Insight: Palmer had been questionable with an elbow injury. He threw for 327 yards and two touchdowns against St. Louis in the season opener.
Carson Palmer, QB12/7/2013 3:51:00 PM
Description: According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer (elbow) took all of Arizona's snaps at Saturday's walkthrough and is expected to start Sunday against the Rams.
Insight: Palmer suffered an elbow injury in Week 13 against the Eagles and has been limited in practice. While he has thrown for multiple touchdowns in five straight games and 300-plus yards in three, Palmer should not be started as a QB1 against a Rams team that is tied for fifth in the NFL with 37 sacks, not when he's dealing with a sore elbow.
Carson Palmer, QB12/6/2013 2:52:00 PM
Description: Arizona coach Bruce Arians "is confident" quarterback Carson Palmer will start Sunday despite calling him a game-time decision. Palmer suffered an elbow injury on a strip sack Sunday against the Eagles.
Insight: Palmer has been limited during practice all this week. Drew Stanton is the backup.
Carson Palmer, QB12/5/2013 6:00:00 PM
Description: Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer suffered an elbow injury on a strip sack Sunday against the Eagles. He was limited in Thursday's practice, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic.
Insight: Palmer has thrown multiple touchdowns in each of the last five games and hit the 300-yard bonus in three straight. However, with the elbow injury still bothering him he shouldn't be trusted as a QB1 in Week 14.
Michael Floyd, WR12/5/2013 2:38:00 PM
Description: Cardinals wideout Michael Floyd was back at practice Thursday despite nagging shoulder and ankle pain that kept him off the field yesterday.
Insight: Floyd finished with 99 yards and a touchdown on five catches last week and has been a huge asset over the past three games. He's a solid WR2 versus St. Louis.
Andre Ellington, RB12/5/2013 2:35:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington (knee) returned to limited practice Thursday, according to beat reporter Darren Urban
Insight: Ellington should be considered questionable for Week 14 against the Rams until he at least gets in one full practice.
Andre Ellington, RB12/1/2013 6:38:00 PM
Description: Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said running back Andre Ellington (knee) was never close to playing Sunday, according to beat writer Darren Urban.
Insight: That refutes pre-game reports that suggested Ellington would play if he could get through warmups without a setback. Ellington should be considered highly questionable for Week 14 against the Rams.
Michael Floyd, WRHot12/1/2013 5:39:00 PM
Description: Cardinals wideout Michael Floyd came within one yard of his third straight 100-yard game in Week 13 at Philadelphia.
Insight: Floyd finished with 99 yards and a touchdown on five catches, which fantasy owners will happily take. The second-year wideout has been targeted 28 times over the past three games after seeing 6.3 targets per game the first nine games. He now has 54 catches for 860 yards and four scores.
Andre Ellington, RB12/1/2013 12:09:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington (knee) will not play Sunday against the Eagles.
Insight: Ellington hurt his knee during Thursday's practice. He was reportedly going to play if he could avoid a setback during warmups, but he won't be active. Rashard Mendenhall should get most of the carries and is a decent flex option.
Andre Ellington, RB12/1/2013 10:41:00 AM
Description: According to Albert Breer of NFL.com, Cardinals running back Andre Ellington (knee) will play Sunday against the Eagles if he can avoid a setback during warmups.
Insight: Ellington hurt his knee during Thursday's practice, which could limit his explosiveness. As long as Rashard Mendenhall is healthy, Ellington's touches will be kept around 10-12 per game.
Andre Ellington, RB11/29/2013 3:28:00 PM
Description: Arizona running back Andre Ellington injured his knee Thursday and wasn't able to practice on Friday. SOURCE: Darren Urban, AZCardinals.com
Insight: Ellington and Rashard Mendenhall have become a solid shared backfield, but the loss of Ellington would take away most of the explosiveness. Ellington will be a game-time decision heading into Sunday's game against Philadelphia.
Michael Floyd, WR11/17/2013 5:08:00 PM
Description: Cardinals wideout Michael Floyd (sprained right shoulder) caught a 91-yard touchdown pass Sunday against Jacksonville and finished with six catches for 193 yards.
Insight: Floyd wasn't affected at all by his shoulder injury. Of course, it helped that he was playing Jacksonville. Arizona's No. 2 wideout entered Week 11 with zero 100-yard games and two touchdowns this season.
Carson Palmer, QB11/17/2013 5:05:00 PM
Description: Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer toasted Jacksonville for 419 yards and two touchdowns Sunday afternoon.
Insight: For the first time all season, Palmer didn't turn the football over. He's not a trusted fantasy option despite this big performance.
Michael Floyd, WR11/17/2013 12:32:00 PM
Description: Cardinals wideout Michael Floyd (sprained right shoulder) is active Sunday against Jacksonville.
Insight: Floyd has had a few decent weeks but has not sustained fantasy value as Arizona's No. 2 receiver. He's on pace for 64 catches, 825 yards and three touchdowns.
Michael Floyd, WR11/15/2013 10:09:00 AM
Description: Cardinals wideout Michael Floyd (sprained right shoulder) said he expects to play Sunday.
Insight: Floyd hasn't proven to be much of a fantasy asset yet, but he is the team's second most targeted receiver this season (57 targets).
Michael Floyd, WR11/11/2013 2:35:00 PM
Description: Cardinals wideout Michael Floyd suffered a sprained right shoulder, but Coach Bruce Arians is calling him day-to-day
Insight: if Floyd can't go, Andre Roberts would be the guy opposite Larry Fitzgerald. Roberts had a team-high five catches for 72 yards and a touchdown.
Andre Ellington, RB11/8/2013 4:53:00 PM
Description: Arizona coach Bruce Arians said he would like to get rookie running back Andre Ellington around 20 touches a game going forward, according to azcardinals.com.
Insight: The increase will come on receptions rather than carries. Ellington is averaging 8.1 touches per game but has produced 66.4 yards from scrimmage per game and three touchdowns. He's coming off a 15-carry, 154-yard, one-touchdown performance in Week 8, but that came with Rashard Mendenhall out of the lineup. Mendenhall will return in Week 10 against Houston, and we see Ellington getting around 15 touches. His explosiveness makes him a solid flex option.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB11/8/2013 4:47:00 PM
Description: Arizona coach Bruce Arians confirmed that Rashard Mendenhall (toe) will start Sunday against Houston, according to Darren Urban of azcardinals.com.
Insight: Mendenhall, who has 281 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 92 carries this season, sat out Week 8 against Atlanta and has had three full weeks to rest his turf toe injury due to Arizona's Week 9 bye. He'll split carries with Andre Ellington, who had 154 rushing yards and a touchdown against the Falcons. The rookie is the better flex option in Week 10.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB11/7/2013 7:10:00 PM
Description: Arizona RB Rashard Mendenhall (toe) is on track to return to action Sunday against the Houston Texans, according to azcardinals.com.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB11/6/2013 6:23:00 PM
Description: Arizona RB Rashard Mendenhall (toe) had a limited practice session Wednesday.
Insight: Mendenhall missed Week 8 with a toe injury but has had plenty of time to heal with the Cardinals going on a bye in Week 9. He's expected to play and split touches with the explosive Andre Ellington. Ellington is a better flex option than Mendenhall.
Andre Ellington, RB10/28/2013 6:07:00 PM
Description: Arizona coach Bruce Arians said Monday that running back Andre Ellington needs to improve his pass blocking "to stay out there." SOURCE: azcardinals.com
Insight: With Rashard Mendenhall (toe) out in Week 8, Ellington saw 15 carries and rushed for 154 yards and a touchdown, but Arians isn't ready to hand over the starting job to the 5-foot-9, 199-pounder. He said he was "sure" Mendenhall would "resume his role" when healthy.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB10/28/2013 5:56:00 PM
Description: Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said he's "sure" running back Rashard Mendenhall (toe) will "resume his role" when he is healthy. SOURCE: Darren Urban, azcardinals.com
Insight: Andre Ellington had 154 rushing yards on 15 carries Sunday, with most of his yardage coming on an 80-yard touchdown, but apparently it wasn't enough for him to earn a larger role. It's also possible Arians was just using coachspeak. Mendenhall has rushed for just 281 yards on 92 carries (3.1 ypc) this season, while Ellington has 333 rushing yards on 43 carries (7.7 ypc) and 198 receiving yards on 22 receptions.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR10/27/2013 1:49:00 PM
Description: Arizona receiver Larry Fitzgerald isn't likely to be dealt before the trade deadline but ESPN's Adam Schefter wouldn't be surprised if he's traded in the offseason.
Insight: Simply put, Fitzgerald is costing the Cardinals too much money. They just can't afford to pay him the $18 million he's scheduled to earn in 2014. Once considered a fantasy superhero, Fitzgerald (32 receptions, 422 yards, 4 TD) has been plagued by injury and inconsistency the last two seasons.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB10/27/2013 11:15:00 AM
Description: Arizona halfback Rashard Mendenhall won't be available for Week 8 against the Falcons. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: He's out with a toe injury. Look for rookie Andre Ellington to get the lion's share of the carries on Sunday with Stepfan Taylor and Alfonso Smith competing for the backup role.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB10/25/2013 3:59:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall missed Friday's practice due to a toe injury and has been downgraded to doubtful.
Insight: If Mendenhall isn't ready this could be the perfect opportunity for up-and-coming Andre Ellington to shine. Ellington will still share the load with some combination of Alfonso Smith, Ryan Williams and Stepfan Taylor.
Andre Ellington, RB10/25/2013 2:38:00 PM
Description: Arizona running back Andre Ellington could see his workload increase dramatically if Rashard Mendenhall isn't ready for the Week 8 whistle.
Insight: While Ellington isn't thought of as an every-down back, he could see a much bigger piece of the pie if he's sharing the workload with Alfonso Smith and Ryan Williams. Before a bad outing against Seattle, Ellington had posted at least 50 yards from scrimmage in five consecutive games.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB10/25/2013 2:34:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall missed Friday's practice due to a toe injury.
Insight: If Mendenhall isn't ready this could be the perfect opportunity for up-and-coming Andre Ellington to shine.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR10/23/2013 7:47:00 PM
Description: Cardinals wideout Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) wasn't expected to practice Wednesday but he ended up getting in a full session.
Insight: Arizona coach Bruce Arians was considering giving Fitzgerald the day off. That the receiver was able to practice in full is further proof that he is getting close to 100 percent. Arians said the star receiver was "80 percent" healthy in Thursday's game against the Seahawks but that the extra time off has "really helped" him recover. He only had two catches for 17 yards on five targets Thursday against Seattle's shutdown secondary, but he has a much better matchup in Week 8 against the Falcons and should have one of his best games of the season.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR10/22/2013 9:04:00 PM
Description: Cardinals wideout Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) isn't expected to practice Wednesday, according to Alex Marvez of FOXSports1.
Insight: Arizona coach Bruce Arians is giving Fitzgerald the day off.
Andre Ellington, RB10/17/2013 11:16:00 AM
Description: Arizona running back Andre Ellington is quickly becoming a major force in the Cardinals' offense, both as a runner and pass receiver.
Insight: Ellington has posted more than 50 yards rushing in each of the last two games (7.71 ypc) and caught nine balls for 67 yards. He's getting on the field for close to half the snaps and has more upside than starter Rashard Mendenhall.
Calais Campbell, DE10/17/2013 11:10:00 AM
Description: Cardinals defensive lineman Calais Campbell (neck) plans to play Thursday against Seattle just a few days after being carted off the field, according to Craig Grialou
Insight: having Campbell back in the lineup will give the Cardinals a better chance to stop Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR10/16/2013 6:53:00 PM
Description: Cardinals wideout Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) is probable for Thursday's game against the Seahawks.
Insight: Fitzgerald's hamstring looked healthy on his 75-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown Sunday at San Francisco, but he has a terrible matchup against Richard Sherman Thursday and can only be counted on as a WR3.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR10/15/2013 8:26:00 PM
Description: Cardinals wideout Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) was limited again in Tuesday's practice, according to Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com.
Insight: Fitzgerald's comments Tuesday suggest he expects to play Thursday against the Seahawks. "It’s a division game against the divison leaders. You don’t make excuses." Fitzgerald's hamstring looked healthy on his 75-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown Sunday at San Francisco, but he has a terrible matchup against Richard Sherman Thursday and can only be counted on as a WR3.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR10/13/2013 3:10:00 PM
Description: Cardinals wideout Larry Fitzgerald is active for Sunday's game versus San Francisco.
Insight: He's been bothered by a hamstring injury all week. The Cardinals wideout has 24 catches for 288 yards this season, but will be hard-pressed to add to those totals Sunday against the 49ers' stout defense.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR10/13/2013 1:46:00 PM
Description: Jay Glazer of Fox Sports says Larry Fitzgerald's odds of playing on Sunday are 50/50 at best.
Insight: He's been bothered by a hamstring injury all week. Even if Fitz does play against San Francisco, he'll probably be on a snap count. The Cardinals wideout has 24 catches for 288 yards this season.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR10/11/2013 4:44:00 PM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) is questionble for Week 6 against the 49ers, according to Kent Somers of AZCentral.com.
Insight: Fitzgerald's hamstring injury is in a different spot than earlier this season. He'll probably play through the injury but will struggle to put up fantasy-worthy numbers as he has in the last four weeks. The Cardinals play at 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday, which will leave fantasy owners without many alternative options if he sits.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB9/29/2013 6:30:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall was a barrell of misery in Week 4, picking up 21 yards on 12 carries, fumbling twice and losing one.
Insight: Mendenhall has been dealing with a toe injury, but we doubt that had much to do with his poor performance. The Buccaneers defense is pretty fierce, and Mendenhall only has 176 yards on 52 carries this season (3.4 ypc).
Vic So'oto, LB9/29/2013 1:46:00 PM
Description: Cardinals linebacker Vic So'oto left the game against Tampa Bay with an undisclosed injury.
Insight: The Cardinals lost three linebackers to injury in Week 3 and can ill-afford any more problems at the already thin position.
Larry Fitzgerald, WRCold9/29/2013 12:01:00 PM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) is ready to go.
Insight: Fitzgerald hasn't gotten into the end zone since Week 1 while being nicked up and faces a tough matchup with Darrelle Revis on Sunday so he's not a great option.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB9/29/2013 11:58:00 AM
Description: Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall has been dealing with a toe problem, but was never really in doubt for Week 4. He'll start and be the primary running back against Tampa Bay.
Insight: Mendenhall who was listed as questionable, is a strong flex play or even a RB2 in 12-team leagues due to injuries and byes this week.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR9/26/2013 2:51:00 PM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) practiced fully Wednesday, according to Darren Urban of azcardinals.com.
Insight: While dealing with a hamstring injury the last two weeks, Fitzgerald produced just 97 yards on seven catches after catching eight balls for 80 yards and two touchdowns in Week 1. He'll need his full health in Week 4 as he takes on Darrelle Revis and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Lorenzo Alexander, LB9/23/2013 2:37:00 PM
Description: Cardinals OLB Lorenzo Alexander joins Sam Acho on the injured list ending his season.
Insight: The Arizona linebacker corps is extremely thin and is a spot for tema to exploit.
Sam Acho, LB9/23/2013 2:35:00 PM
Description: Cardinals starting linebacker sam Acho is done for the season after suffering a broken fibula.ankle in Sunday's loss to New Orleans.
Insight: He had just five tackles and one sack this season and was splitting time. Acho's fantasy value in IDP leagues was minimal.
Rashad Johnson, S9/23/2013 2:29:00 PM
Description: Cardinals free safety Rashad Johnson underwent finger surgery after Sunday's loss to New Orleans. SOURCE: Kent Somers, AZCentral.com
Insight: Johnson lost part of his left middle finger and had to have his bone shaved down to the knuckle. It's a gruesome injury and we doubt he'll be available for next week's game against Tampa Bay.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB9/22/2013 12:10:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall returned to practice Friday and is active for the Week 3 game versus New Orleans.
Insight: Mendenhall was listed as questionable but he is a strong flex play or even a RB2 in 12-team leagues with all the running back injuries this week.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR9/22/2013 12:07:00 PM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) is ready to go for Week 3 as expected.
Insight: He missed a few practices, but at this stage of his career he can play without them. He's a must start against New Orleans.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB9/20/2013 7:40:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall (toe) returned to practice Friday.
Insight: Mendenhall is listed as questionable but he's expected to start and is a strong flex play or even a RB2 in 12-team leagues with all the running back injuries this week.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR9/20/2013 7:37:00 PM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) returned to practice Friday.
Insight: Cardinals coach Bruce Arians decided to hold Fitzgerald off the practice field Wednesday and Thursday even though the receiver wanted to be on the field. He's expected to play Sunday against the Saints and should be started in all leagues.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB9/19/2013 3:04:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall (toe) missed practice again Thursday, according to Darren Urban of AzCardinals.com.
Insight: Mendenhall has to be considered questionable for Sunday's game. Fantasy owners should add backup Andre Ellington, who had 62 yards and a touchdown on six touches last week.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB9/19/2013 12:05:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall (toe) did not practice Wednesday due to a toe injury of unknown severity, according to Azcentral.com.
Insight: Mendenhall has also been playing through knee soreness. The running back has rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown on 36 carries and is a solid weekly flex option if he plays. However, he has to be considered questionable for Week 3 until he returns to practice. Fantasy owners should add backup Andre Ellington, who had 62 yards and a touchdown on six touches last week.
Rob Housler, TE9/19/2013 12:03:00 PM
Description: Cardinals tight end Rob Housler (ankle) practiced Wednesday for the first time this season and the team expects him to play Sunday against the Saints. SOURCE: AZCentral.com
Insight: The 6-foot-5 Housler was a sleeper pick this preseason but he suffered a high-ankle sprain. His presence will take fantasy value away from secondary targets Michael Floyd and Andre Roberts.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR9/19/2013 12:00:00 PM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday but coach Bruce Arians said the All-Pro receiver wanted to. SOURCE: AZCentral.com
Insight: "He wants to practice; I’m not letting him," Arians said. "I do not want him aggravating that again. We’ll take that day to day." Arians also said that while not all players can go all week without practicing and still play Sunday, Fitzgerald is capable of doing that. Fantasy owners can expect to have Fitzgerald in the lineup Sunday against the Saints.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB9/15/2013 7:27:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall had 66 rushing yards on 15 carries and a touchdown in a win over the Lions Sunday.
Insight: Mendenhall's go-ahead one-yard score with 2:03 remaining proved to be the game-winner. Sixty rushing yards and a touchdown is about the best fantasy owners can hope for from Mendenhall on a week-to-week basis as part of Bruce Arians' pass-heavy offense.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR9/15/2013 6:55:00 PM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald aggravated his hamstring injury in the third quarter Sunday against Detroit and is currently on the sidelines with an ice pack wrapped around his left leg.
Insight: He was only at 80 percent before the game and now he's watching instead of playing. Hopefully Fitz's decision to play this week won't cost him any games down the road.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR9/15/2013 1:15:00 PM
Description: According to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer, Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) will be around 80 percent healthy for Sunday's game against the Rams.
Insight: Even at 80 percent Fitzgerald is still one of the top receivers in the NFL. Start him as you usually would.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR9/15/2013 10:05:00 AM
Description: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald will be on the field for Sunday's game against Detroit.
Insight: Fitzgerald suffered a hamstring injury in Week 1 but still finished with 80 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. He may not be at 100 percent but this one's bound to be a shootout and Fitzgerald should see plenty of targets. He's on the lower end of the WR1 spectrum but is still a must-start in all formats.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR9/13/2013 7:23:00 PM
Description: Arizona wideout Larry Fitzgerald is likely to be a game-time decison Sunday against the Lions. SOURCE: Darren Urban, azcardinals.com
Insight: He's battling a hamstring injury. Fitz hasn't missed a game since 2007 and has only missed four games in his entire career. The Pittsburgh alum is fourth among active players in career receiving yards (10,493 in 141 games).
Rashard Mendenhall, RB9/13/2013 3:25:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall (hamstring) was limited in practice, but is expected to play Sunday against Detroit.
Insight: Mendenhall is also dealing with soreness in his surgically repaired knee, but rushed 16 times for 60 yards in Week 1. The injuries don't bother us as much as the mediocre running and the lack of holes to run through.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR9/12/2013 3:39:00 PM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday.
Insight: Fitzgerald is coming off a two-touchdown game in his first appearance with Carson Palmer at quarterback and is likely to play Sunday unless his condition worsens over the next 24 hours.
Rob Housler, TE9/12/2013 3:37:00 PM
Description: Cardinals tight end Rob Housler (ankle) hasn't resumed practicing yet and will miss his second straight game Sunday, according to Darren Urban of AzCardinals.com.
Insight: The 6-foot-5 Housler was a sleeper pick this preseason but he suffered a high-ankle sprain. When he does return, he'll be fourth in the pecking order for targets behind Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Floyd and Andre Roberts, but he should still be a TE2 in coach Bruce Arians' vertical scheme.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR9/8/2013 7:40:00 PM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald torched the Rams for 80 yards and two scores Sunday at the Edward Jones Dome.
Insight: Finally a quarterback that knows how to get Fitz the football. This Carson Palmer/Fitzgerald pairing could be huge for fantasy owners this season.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB9/2/2013 5:42:00 PM
Description: Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said that Rashard Mendenhall (knee) is "more than ready" for Week 1 despite not practicing Monday. SOURCE: AZCardinals.com
Insight: Mendenhall is dealing with soreness in his surgically repaired knee, but he'll return to practice Wednesday and start Sunday against the Rams. Arizona has offensive line issues and will be a pass-first team, so Mendenhall should only be used as a flex play in Week 1.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB8/27/2013 2:10:00 PM
Description: Cardinals tailback Rashard Mendenhall (sprained right knee) won't play in the final preseason game, but is expected to be ready for the opener, barring any setbacks, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic.
Insight: Mendenhall is trying to bounce back from a terrible 2012-13 season when he produced just 182 yards in six games. Meanwhile, rumors around Phoenix are that backup Ryan Williams is on the trade block which can only help Mendenhall's fantasy value.
Rob Housler, TE8/26/2013 3:38:00 PM
Description: Cardinals tight end Rob Housler has been diagnosed with the dreaded high-ankle sprain, according to coach Bruce Arians.
Insight: The 6-foot-5 Housler is a candidate for a breakout season as new quarterback Carson palmer is quick to utilize tight ends. A high-ankle sprain, however, likely means he won't be ready for the season opener.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB8/25/2013 9:14:00 PM
Description: Arizona halfback Rashard Mendenhall has been diagnosed with a sprained right knee. SOURCE: CBS Sports
Insight: Jason La Canfora, who has been all over the Cardinals today, says the team expects Mendenhall to be back in time for Week 1 against the Rams. Mendenhall is trying to bounce back from a terrible 2012 season when he produced just 182 yards in six games.
Ryan Williams, RB8/25/2013 9:07:00 PM
Description: It sounds like halfback Ryan Williams could be on his way out of Arizona.
Insight: Jason La Canfora from CBS Sports reports the Cardinals are looking to trade Williams ahead of next week's final roster cuts. If Arizona can't find a willing trade partner by the end of the week they may just cut him.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB8/25/2013 11:50:00 AM
Description: Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall left Saturday's preseason game with a right knee injury.
Insight: The extent of Mendenhall's injury is not yet known. The running back has been dealing with tendinitis in that same knee, which is also surgically repaired from an ACL tear during the 2011-12 season. Arizona also lost LG Jonathan Cooper, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, to a broken leg Saturday. The Cardinals could be even more pass heavy than expected in 2013.
Dan Carpenter, K8/21/2013 11:55:00 AM
Description: Former Dolphins place-kicker Dan Carpenter has signed on with Arizona and will compete with Jay Feely for the job.
Insight: Miami went with rookie Caleb Sturgis. Feely hit 25-of-28 last season, including 2-for-2 from over 50 yards, so we're not sure why they signed Carpenter or whether he'll get a real shot to win the job at this point in the preseason.
Patrick Peterson, CB8/7/2013 11:30:00 AM
Description: Cardinals top cornerback, Patrick Peterson, is being used on the offensive side of the ball at training camp.
Insight: Peterson is already an excellent cornerback and dangerous punt returner, but now you can add part-time slot receiver to the mix. This is the organization that turned Roy Green from defensive back to star wideout many years ago, but they already have Larry Fitzgerald out there so we don't think it will become a full-time gig.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB8/6/2013 7:39:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall (knee) returned to practice Tuesday, according to AZCardinals.com.
Insight: Mendenhall missed a few days of practice due to knee tendinitis and is questionable for the preseason opener Friday. The former Pittsburgh Steeler is expected to carry the load at running back for the Cardinals this year. Arizona rushed for just 3.4 yards per carry on 352 rushes last season, but a better passing game led by Carson Palmer should help the team improve the running game as well.
Michael Floyd, WR8/6/2013 4:51:00 PM
Description: As expected, the Cardinals have Michael Floyd listed ahead of Andre Roberts on the depth chart.
Insight: Floyd was taken 13th overall by the Cardinals in the 2012 NFL Draft but was behind Roberts for most of the season. He did have eight catches for 166 yards and a touchdown in Week 17 to finish with 45 receptions, 562 yards and two scores in his rookie year. With Bruce Arians' vertical offense in place and Carson Palmer under center, it should be a bounce-back year for Arizona's passing attack, and Floyd is definitely a breakout candidate.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB8/3/2013 8:03:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall is dealing with tendinitis from his injured knee and will miss a few days, according to an Arizona Republic report.
Insight: If healthy, Mendenhall will be the Cardinals starting running back. Only time will tell if he can play up to the standards he set in Pittsburgh.
Dan Williams, DT8/3/2013 10:30:00 AM
Description: Cardinals nose tackle Dan Williams will miss time after spraining an ankle and knee in practice.
Insight: Williams started 11 games last season and totaled 44 tackles, but zero sacks.
Rob Housler, TE7/29/2013 8:02:00 PM
Description: ESPN's NFC West blogger Mike Sando says it is "hard to miss" Cardinals tight end Rob Housler at training camp and adds that the locker room is buzzing about him.
Insight: The 6-foot-5 Housler reportedly has been displaying great speed and making big plays in practice. He's a breakout candidate this season -- remember, Brandon Myers caught 79 balls for 806 yards playing with Carson Palmer in Oakland last season.
Rob Housler, TE7/15/2013 1:07:00 PM
Description: Cardinals beat writer Darren Urban has tight end Rob Housler at the top of his list for breakout candidates in Arizona.
Insight: Urban notes that Carson Palmer is the best QB Housler has played with and new head coach Bruce Arians uses his tight ends a lot (rookies Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen caught 71 balls for the Colts last season) Housler caught 45 for 417 yards last season and Urban believes 60+ receptions is possible.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB6/19/2013 1:50:00 PM
Description: Cardinals coach Bruce Arians confirmed "there's no doubt" that Rashard Mendenhall would be the team's featured back if the season started today, according to NFL.com.
Insight: Arians is familiar with Mendenhall because he used to be his offensive coordinator in Pittsburgh. Mendenhall is expected to serve as a three-down running back this season and could be a solid RB2 if Arizona's line holds up.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB6/13/2013 1:58:00 PM
Description: Rashard Mendenhall is "clearly" the Cardinals' No. 1 running back, according to Mike Jurecki of FOX Sports affiliate 910 AM Phoenix.
Insight: That's a lot different than last season in Pittsburgh, which Mendenhall spent in a timeshare with Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer. Mendenhall will be 20 months removed from his torn ACL when the 2013 season begins.
Beanie Wells, RB6/6/2013 12:27:00 PM
Description: Free agent halfback Beanie Wells is set to work out for the Jaguars on Thursday afternoon. SOURCE: Ryan O'Halloran, Florida Times-Union
Insight: Teams have been skeptical about signing Wells because of his injury history. Jacksonville's backfield already includes Pro Bowler Maurice Jones-Drew, Justin Forsett and rookie Denard Robinson. That doesn't leave many carries for Wells, assuming he even makes the team.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR6/5/2013 11:56:00 AM
Description: Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic is reporting that wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has been practicing at all three wideout positions.
Insight: Anything that gets Fitzgerald more targets is a good thing and moving him around is something former coach Ken Whisenhunt didn't do very often. The addition of quarterback Carson Palmer and new coach Bruce Arian's offense has many thinking we will see improved numbers from "Fitz" in 2013-14 similar to the improvement we saw from the Colts' Reggie Wayne last season.
Michael Floyd, WR5/15/2013 5:13:00 PM
Description: Cardinals receiver Michael Floyd has been running ahead of Andre Roberts so far in OTAs, according to the Arizona Republic.
With Bruce Arians' vertical offense in place and Carson Palmer under center, it should be a bounce-back year for Arizona's passing attack.
