Description: Wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, released by the Chiefs after they signed Jeremy Maclin, is still searching for a landing spot.
Insight: Bowe could find one in Baltimore as a replacement for Torrey Smith, but that probably won't excite fantasy owners. Bowe was the top receiver in Kansas City but didn't score even once in 2014. The Ravens lost both Smith and tight end Owen Daniels so are in need of weapons for Joe Flacco. They can probably do better than Bowe.
Description: Ravens wideout Torrey Smith is going to sign with the San Francisco 49ers according to the Baltimore Sun.
Insight: The Baltimore Sun described the signing as a "done deal." Smith is close friends with fellow wide receiver Anquan Boldin, who won Super Bowl XLVII with Baltimore. That could have definitely played a role in Smith moving to the west coast. Meanwhile, the Baltimoe Sun has also reported Andre Johnson is a potential replacement for Smith to play alongside Steve Smith.
Description: The Ravens released receiver/return specialist Jacoby Jones.
Insight: Baltimore will save $750,000 against the cap with this move unless they designate him as a post-June 1 cut. In that case, the Ravens would save $2.5 million against the cap for 2015. With just being a return man, Jones wasn't worth the new contract he signed last March which was four-years, $12 million.
Description: Ravens tight end Owen Daniels caught four passes for 41 yards and a touchdown against the Patriots on Saturday.
Insight: Joe Flacco hit 10 different receivers versus the Patriots, but he targeted Daniels 11 times, which was more than any other receiver. Particularly on the last drive, Flacco was really trying to force the ball to his tight end.
Description: Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. caught three passes for 44 yards and a touchdown.
Insight: Joe Flacco did not concentrate on any one receiver, so no pass catcher for the Ravens stood out statistically. Smith caught the second touchdown of the game, so his owners were still pleased with the performance since he found the end zone.
Description: Ravens running back Justin Forsett had 24 carries for 129 yards against the Patriots.
Insight: Forsett averaged 5.4 yards per attempt, which is exactly what he averaged during the regular season. Forsett gave the Ravens balance, but the defense could not stop the Patriots passing game in the second half.
Description: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco threw four touchdowns against the Patriots in the AFC Division Playoffs, but his two interceptions doom him and the Ravens.
Insight: Flacco was 28-of-45 for 292 yards in addition to the four scores and two interceptions. Flacco ended his incredible streak of five straight postseason games with 13 touchdowns and no interceptions.
Description: Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. posted his first 100-yard game since Week 6 in the first round of the playoffs against Pittsburgh.
Insight: Smith caught five of his seven targets for 101 yards. After about a two-month lull, Smith has become a force again starting last week with eight catches for 90 yards and now this effort. It will be key to next week's fantasy value to figure out whether Darrelle Revis will be assigned to Torrey Smith or Steve Smith.
Description: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco is proving to be a very good playoff quarterback, particularly in the first round where he improved to 6-0 Saturday.
Insight: Flacco wasn't great, but mistake-free football and a couple of touchdown passes is always a solid fantasy effort. He threw for 259 yards and has rediscovered Steve Smith Sr. to go along with Torrey Smith and TE Owen Daniels.
Description: Ravens wideout Torrey Smith had a nice afternoon in Week 17.
Insight: Smith caught just four passes but for 83 yards and a touchdown. His 53-yard catch seemed to awake a sleeping Ravens team, and it set up his own score. Smith finished with 11 touchdowns in 2014.
Description: Ravens running back Justin Forsett ended up with decent numbers in Week 17.
Insight: Forsett had 17 carries and 199 yards, which totaled an average of 7.0 yard per carry. Forsett didn't run that well as it took several big runs, including a 32-yarder, in the fourth quarter to get to that total. Even still, fantasy owners don't really care. Forsett finished with 1,266 rushing yards and an average of over 5.3 yards per carry.
Description: Ravens tailback Lorenzo Taliaferro, inactive for Week 15 against the Jaguars, has now been placed on the injured reserve list thereby ending his season.
Insight: Taliaferro made a little noise back in Week 3 when he rushed 18 times for 91 yards and a touchdown, but since Week 5 has given the Ravens and fantasy owners very little as Justin Forsett grabbed the workhorse role.
Description: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco did enough to beat the lowly Jaguars on Sunday.
Insight: Flacco was 20-for-30 with 221 yards and a touchdown. The Baltimore offense unexpectedly had difficulty running the ball versus Jacksonville so overall, the offense struggled. Flacco is a low-end QB1 in deep leagues.
Description: Ravens wideout Torrey Smith has a sprained knee, but is active for Week 15.
Insight: Smith's knee starting swelling up in warmups before Week 14 and he played very little. He'll be on the field, but at less than 100 percent and will be a high-risk option even against Jacksonville.
Description: Ravens tight end Owen Daniels caught two passes for 30 yards.
Insight: Daniels had a 21-yard catch early in the game, so Week 13 looked promising for Daniels, but that was his only big play. Daniels is like every tight end in the sense that his fantasy value is reliant on finding the end zone, which he has done just twice this season.
Description: Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. continues to slump late in this season.
Insight: Smith had just four targets in Week 13 and caught one of them for two yards. Smith has 54 receptions for 819 yards and five touchdowns this season, but in he last six weeks, Smith has just 24 receptions for 246 yards and one touchdown.
Description: Ravens running back Justin Forsett turned in another decent fantasy day.
Insight: Forsett had his fourth 100-yard rushing day of the season and third in a row. Forsett also went over 1,000 rushing yards on the season. He continues to be one of the best waiver wire pickups of 2014.
Description: Former Ravens running back Ray Rice has been reinstated by the NFL.
Insight: He's free to sign with any team that will have him. It was just 2012 that Rice rushed for 1,143 yards and nine touchdowns, but he was a disaster in 2013. We aren't sure any teams will sign him for the last five weeks of this season ... maybe 2015.
Description: Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. was big early, with a touchdown and 69 yards at the half, but didn't do much after the break
Insight: Smith looked like he was going to go revert to his early season production, but Torrey Smith was more active after halftime. Steve Smith had four 100-yard games in the first six contests, but hasn't posted triple-digits since Week 6.
Description: Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith has had season-ending foot surgery Thursday
Insight: The team has previously said doctors believe Smith suffered a mild Lisfranc sprain in Week 8. This is a tough blow and the Ravens will find it near impossible to replace one of the league's best corners.
Description: Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith will miss "a few weeks" according to The Baltimore Sun.
Insight: The team said doctors believe Smith suffered a mild Lisfranc sprain in Sunday's defeat to Cincinnati. This is music to Ben Roethlisberger owner's ears as Big Ben was firing on all cyclinders in Week 8 and faces Baltimore next.
Description: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco was completely ineffective in Sunday's loss to the Bengals.
Insight: After throwing for a total of seven touchdowns over the previous two weeks, Flacco threw for only 195 yards, no scores, and two interceptions during Week 8. Flacco will remain a borderline QB1, moving forward.
Description: Ravens backup tight end Crockett Gillmore is expected to start with Owen Daniels sidelined by a knee injury, according to Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun.
Insight: Gillmore has just three catches on the season for 29 yards, but is likely to get a couple of weeks as a starter. Fantasy owners would have to be willing to gamble big to start the untested rookie.
Description: Ravens wideout Torrey Smith caught a late touchdown in a blowout victory to avoid another fantasy dud.
Insight: Smith finished with three catches, 81 yards and a touchdown for a solid fantasy day, but 39 of the yards and the score came with under three minutes left and Baltimore ahead by three scores. The Ravens threw the deep pass to Smith on fourth down because the team's long snapper was injured. Smith still has quite a bit of risk involved going forward.
Description: The final decision of whether running back Ray Rice will be reinstated this season will come in mid-November according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.
Insight: That means Rice could sign with another team and become fantasy relevant just in time for the fantasy playoff run. The running back continues to stress that he did not lie to Roger Goodell when interviewed about the elevator incident and should, at the maximum, be suspended for six games as a first-time offender. La Confora speculates the Colts and Patriots may be interested in Rice, but The Sports Network believes the Panthers are a great fit if their running back cannot get healthy.
Description: Ravens tight end Owen Daniels caught two passes for 34 yards in Week 6 against the Buccaneers.
Insight: Owners could have picked up Daniels due to the favorable matchup against Tampa Bay, but Joe Flacco ate up the Buccaneers secondary so badly, he didn't need to look for his tight end much. Daniels will remain a low-end TE1 in a 12-team league based on matchups.
Description: Ravens wideout Torrey Smith had four catches for 51 yards and two touchdowns in Week 6 against the Buccaneers.
Insight: Finally, the other Smith did something in the Ravens offense. Smith had a season-high in catches and was three yards shy of a season-high in yards per game this season. Smith only had one touchdown catch in the first five games, so it was great to see him score twice as well. This, however, is likely an aberration as opposed to a trend setter. Joe Flacco is not going to pass for five touchdowns again.
Description: Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. understandably had a quiet day after the emotional game against Carolina in Week 4.
Insight: Smith caught five of seven targets, but nothing exiting came from it as Flacco shared the wealth evenly between Owen Daniels, Justin Forsett, Torrey and Steve Smith. All had at least seven targets
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce (thigh) was active, but missing in action.
Insight: Rookie running back Lorenzo Taliaferro and Justin Forsett did all the work in the first half. Pierce saw the ball four times in the second half, but fantasy owners can now safely release Pierce.
Description: Ravens tailback Lorenzo Taliaferro carried the ball 15 times for 58 yards and a touchdown against the Panthers on Sunday.
Insight: Bernard Pierce was supposed to start, but he did not touch the ball. Justin Forsett carried the load in the first half and then when the game was out of reach, the Ravens turmed to Taliaferro. It is hard to say because the Ravens backfield is very crowded, but Taliaferro looks to be the best Ravens back to own in fantasy going forward.
Description: Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. caught seven passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns.
Insight: Smith was clearly pumped to play his old team and led the Ravens with 10 targets. He is probably the biggest sleeper of the draft so far. Continue to plug him into your starting lineup and if you haven't done that already, then what are you waiting for?
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce (thigh) "will be eased" back into action in Week 4 according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
Insight: Rookie running back Lorenzo Taliaferro displayed a lot of skill in Week 3, so the Ravens look to have the luxury to slowly move Pierce back into the lineup. Then throw in the fact that Justin Forsett will get carries as well. Pierce is starting but if possible, avoid this whole situation.
Description: Ravens cornerback Lardarius Webb is inactive against the Panthers on Sunday.
Insight: That means Jimmy Smith will likely shadow the Panthers rookie wide out Kelvin Benjamin. Although that is not the best matchup for Benjamin owners, if Cam Newton can find other holes in the Ravens secondary without Webb playing, perhaps the coverage on Benjamin will loosen up a bit.
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce is active against the Panthers on Sunday.
Insight: Pierce is starting, but it will be a three-headed monster in the Baltimore backfield. Scat-back Justin Forsett and rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro will cut into Pierce's touches. We believe Taliaferro is the best long-term player to own here, but none of them are exactly good starts in Week 4.
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce is expected to start on Sunday against the Panthers.
Insight: Gary Kubiak specifically said that all of his running backs, Pierce, Lorenzo Taliaferro and Justin Forsett, will play. This sounds like a true running back by committee as Pierce will start, rookie Taliaferro shined last week and Forsett has at least 12 touches per game through three weeks. For this week, we actually think Taliaferro is still the better play than Pierce as long as owners believe Kubiak that all three backs will play. Forsett will be the change-of-pace back.
Description: Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta underwent surgery on his dislocated right hip on Monday and is done for the season.
Insight: The Ravens will turn to Owen Daniels as their primary tight end. Pitta has now missed back-to-back years with right hip dislocations. Daniels has 10 catches for 70 yards in three games and caught two touchdowns against the Steelers in Week 2.
Description: Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. continues to be Joe Flacco's favorite target.
Insight: After a five-catch, 101 yard performance on Sunday, Smith now has 18 receptions for 290 yards and one touchdown, in 2014. Owners who took a gamble on Smith for their bench, are extremely happy, as long as he was inserted into the starting lineup.
Description: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco managed the Ravens to a victory against the Browns on Sunday.
Insight: He was 19 for 31 with 217 yards, one touchdown and one interception, with an average of only 7.0 yards per completion. It is becoming evident that Flacco will not be a game-changing, fantasy quarterback. He is a QB2 moving forward.
Description: Ravens tailback Lorenzo Taliaferro had a coming out party on Sunday against the Browns.
Insight: Although Justin Forsett started, Taliaferro saw the majority of reps. He tallied 91 yards on 18 rushes and a touchdown. Taliaferro is definitely worth a waiver, if he has not been picked up already. Forsett, to his credit, played well, rushing 11 times for 63 yards. However, he remains the third down back.
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce was added to the injury report because of a thigh injury and was kimited in Friday's practice leaving doubt about his availability for Sunday against Cleveland.
Insight: Pierce will still likely get the majority of the carries against the Browns on Sunday as Justin Forsett looks to only be a change-of-pace back. Check back Sunday morning to see if he is active or inactive.
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce was added to the injury report because of a thigh injury.
Insight: Pierce will still likely get the majority of the carries against the Browns on Sunday as Justin Forsett looks to only be a change-of-pace back. Check back on Friday to see if Pierce practices. He is a borderline RB2.
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce carried the load Thursday night with 22 rushed for 96 yards and one reception for seven yards.
Insight: Many fantasy owners had jumped on the Justin Forsett bandwagon, but Pierce's active night will slow that parade to a halt. Forsett caught four balls for 16 yards and had eight carries for 56 yards. It appears the Ravens are still figuring out the backfield mix.
Description: Ravens cornerback Lardarius Webb is inactive against the Steelers on Thursday night.
Insight: Webb is clearly the best cover cornerback on the Ravens roster. Jimmy Smith will likely get the daunting task of covering Antonio Brown with Asa Jackson or a backup safety matching up against Markus Wheaton.
Description: Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Bernard Pierce would remain a big part of the offense.
Insight: Don't know if we should really buy this. In the same press conference, Harbaugh said Pierce was benched for fumbling and then denied that fact. Justin Forsett looks to be the Ravens go-to back at least this Thursday against Pittsburgh, but the long term starting job will be probably determined by the hot hand. As frustrating as Pierce has been the last season-plus, it would probably be the smart move to hold onto him at least one more week.
Description: The Baltimore Ravens announced they are releasing running back Ray Rice.
Insight: In the wake of the TMZ elevator video, the public have been calling for Rice's head. Our guess, he never plays another down in the NFL. This could also have huge implications for Roger Goodell's tenure as commissioner. As for fantasy, Bernard Pierce is the starter in the Ravens backfield, but Justin Forsett took over the role after Pierce's fumbling issue in Week 1. We would like to see how Week 2 on Thursday goes, but based on Pierce's performances last season and in Week 1, we guess Forsett is the best option out of the Raven backfield.
Description: Yahoo Sports Dan Wetzel reports on Twitter that the Ravens might release Ray Rice after TMZ released the video of him knocking out his then fiance and dragging her out of an elevator.
Insight: There does not seem to be much of an alternative at this point. There is a lot of blame to go around in this situation, but NFL players along with fans are calling for his head. Terrance Knighton of the Denver Broncos tweeted that he should be banned from the NFL. Rice is eligible to return in Week 3, but we will see if that actually happens.
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce (concussion) returned to practice on Saturday.
Insight: Pierce suffered the concussion seven days ago, so he should be ready for Week 1, where he will start in place of the suspended Ray Rice. Pierce rushed 11 times for 52 yards and caught a pass for three yards in preseason.
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce has officially been diagnosed with a concussion, according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com.
Insight: The concussion is minor and Pierce is expected to be ready for Week 1. An injury at this point of the preseason would be terrible for Pierce, who will get a two-game chance to prove he deserves a larger role in the offense when Ray Rice returns from a suspension.
Description: Ravens running back Bernard Pierce tweeted that he's "fine" after suffering a head injury during Saturday's preseason game.
Insight: According to the Baltimore Sun, Pierce is expected to be ready for Week 1. He left Saturday's game with concussion symptoms but hasn't yet been officially diagnosed with a concussion. An injury at this point of the preseason would be terrible for Pierce, who will get a two-game chance to prove he deserves a larger role in the offense when Ray Rice returns from a suspension.
Description: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco was 16-of-23 for 180 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason game against the Redskins.
Insight: Flacco led Baltimore to three first-half scoring drives and struck a wide open Steve Smith for a 30-yard touchdown. The quarterback is 29-of-45 for 345 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions this preseason. Flacco is a worthy QB2.
Description: Ravens backup running back Bernard Pierce left in the first quarter of Saturday's preseason game against the Redskins with a possble concussion.
Insight: Not a good sign for Pierce, who was injury plagued last season. Baltimore is already missing Ray Rice the first two weeks of the season because of suspension and now it seems like at least a 50/50 chance Pierce will be out too. Week 1 is two weeks away and doctors must clear Pierce before he returns.
Description: Ravens running back Ray Rice (shoulder) was back at practice Monday.
Insight: Rice's X-rays came back negative and he had told Brent Harris of Comcast Sportsnet that he's "fine." This is confirmation. Rice is suspended the first two games of the year, so even if he was injured, he would have plenty of time to recover.
Description: Ravens running back Ray Rice went to the locker room to get his shoulder looked at during Saturday's preseason game.
Insight: Rice's X-rays came back negative and he told Brent Harris of Comcast Sportsnet that he's "fine." Rice is suspended the first two games of the year, which will give Bernard Pierce a chance to prove he deserves a larger role when Rice returns.
Description: Ravens running back Ray Rice has been suspended for the first two games of the season.
Insight: The suspension is actually a little shorter than expected. Still, it means backup Bernard Pierce will be fantasy worthy for the first two games of the season and if he plays well who knows what could happen down the road.
Description: According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, Ravens running back Bernard Pierce has been medically cleared. He underwent offseason surgery on his rotator cuff.
Insight: Ray Rice is expected to be suspended for multiple games at the start of the season, so Pierce will get a chance to be the lead ballcarrier and prove he deserves a larger role when Rice returns. The Ravens had a league-worst 3.1 ypc average in 2013. They'll try to revive the running game under new offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak.
Description: The Baltimore Sun says Ravens backup running back Bernard Pierce (rotator cuff surgery) is the favorite to be the opening day starter.
Insight: The Ravens' running game is a mess. Pierce is coming off shoulder surgery, Ray Rice is expected to receive a multi-game suspension and rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro is dealing with legal issues of his own. Justin Forsett is also in the mix.
Description: According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, the Ravens are preparing to be without running back Ray Rice for at least the first three games of the season. Rice is probably facing a suspension for his offseason assault arrest.
Insight: Rice held a press conference Friday to apologize for his behavior. The suspension knocks Rice down a peg while lifting Bernard Pierce's value.
Description: ESPN's Chris Mortenson expects Baltimore running back Ray Rice to face some sort of suspension for his arrest earlier this offseason.
Insight: This further clouds what was already a puzzling fantasy situation. If anything, the looming suspension helps Bernard Pierce's value heading into the season. Of course, that's assuming Pierce is fully recovered from offseason rotator cuff surgery.
Description: Ravens running back Ray Rice has agreed to participate in a pretrial-intervention program. As long as he completes the program, Rice will not have to face trial for allegedly assaulting his wife earlier this offseason. SOURCE: ESPN
Insight: The arrest still goes on Rice's permanent record but without the conviction. Rice is coming off a dismal season (3.1 yards per carry) and it's possible he could also be facing a suspension. Once a consensus first-rounder, Rice's fantasy stock has never been lower.
