Stars send Roy to IR Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - The Dallas Stars placed center Derek Roy on injured reserve Monday due to a pulled groin muscle. Roy sustained the injury in Dallas' 3-2 overtime loss against Chicago on Thursday and sat out Saturday's game against St. Louis as a result. The move was necessitated to open up a roster spot for center Jamie Benn, who is slated to make his season debut in Monday's matchup at Columbus. Benn, a restricted free agent, agreed to terms with the Stars on a five-year, $26.25 million contract last week. Roy, acquired by Dallas in a trade with Buffalo in July, had a pair of assists over the first four games of this season. The 29-year-old recorded 44 points (17 goals, 27 assists) in 80 contests with the Sabres last season and posted career-bests of 32 goals and 81 points back in 2007-08. 01/28 17:32:28 ET Powered by The Sports Network. |
