Suns go for home-and-home sweep of Jazz
(SportsNetwork.com) - The Phoenix Suns go for a sweep of their home-and-home set versus the Utah Jazz Saturday from US Airways Center.
The Suns defeated the Jazz, 112-101, Friday night in Salt Lake City and were led by Markieff Morris's 23 points off the bench. Eric Bledsoe returned to action after missing six straight games with a leg injury and scored 19 points off the bench for the Suns, who have won two in a row and four of five games.
Midway through the second quarter, with the Suns trailing 42-41, Phoenix went on a 17-5 run to take a 58-47 lead with just over two minutes left in the half. The Suns then stumbled a bit in the waning minutes before holding on.
"I thought we played the game very well for three quarters," said Phoenix head coach Jeff Hornacek. "We had the lead and then kind of goofed around a little bit there in the fourth quarter."
Goran Dragic scored 19 points with nine assists and Miles Plumlee added 15 points to go along with 10 rebounds in the win. Channing Frye and Gerald Green, who has started ahead of Bledsoe the past few games, scored 13 points apiece for Phoenix, which made 54.7 percent of its shots.
The Suns are aiming for their first three-game winning streak of the season.
Utah failed to record back-to-back wins for the first time this season with Friday's loss and dropped to 2-15 on the season.
Marvin Williams ended with 18 points, Alec Burks chipped in 16, Derrick Favors added 15 and Trey Burke scored 13 points in the loss. The Jazz shot well at 48.2 percent, but a 31-18 difference in the second quarter put them behind.
"They (Suns) made shots. They got what they wanted," said Utah head coach Tyrone Corbin. "They had us spread out, they got drives (and) they got the ball where they wanted to in the initial part of the offense."
The Jazz hope to capture that elusive first road win of the season and are 0-9 away from Salt Lake City -- 0-5 against the West. The Jazz have lost 10 in a row on the road dating back to last season.
Phoenix has won 10 of the last 14 matchups with the Jazz and five of six contests in the Valley of the Sun.
