Wizards to re-sign F Webster
(Sports Network) - The Washington Wizards have retained starting small forward Martell Webster, with the team and the impending unrestricted free agent agreeing to terms on a four-year contract.
According to Yahoo! Sports, Webster's deal is worth a maximum value of $22 million and is partially guaranteed for the final year.
Webster, who averaged a career-best 11.4 points while shooting 42.2 percent from 3-point range and started 62 of 76 games this past season, confirmed he will re-sign on his Twitter account.
"[Team owner] Ted Leonsis, [general manager] Ernie [Grunfeld] and [vice president] Tommy [Shepard]. Thank u so much for giving me a home and another opportunity to make something special in DC. I'm a wizkid," Webster tweeted on Tuesday.
The sixth overall pick of the 2005 draft by Portland, Webster owns career averages of 8.9 points and 3.3 rebounds over eight NBA seasons and signed a one-year contract with the Wizards last August. The 26-year-old will compete with former Georgetown standout Otto Porter Jr., whom Washington took third overall in last week's draft, for time at the small forward spot.
