 Eric Hosmer, 1B, KAN8/1/2014 10:41:00 AM
Description: Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right hand and could be sidelined up to six weeks, according to a Kansas City Star report. Insight: Initial estimates of four weeks were apparently low. Billy Butler and Raul Ibanez should pick up most of the additional work.
 Aaron Hill, 2B, ARICold8/1/2014 10:31:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill is just 1-for-14 (.071) versus Pirates right-hander Edinson Volquez. Insight: Hill was just 3-for-16 over the past week after a great seven days in which he batted .458 (11-for-24).

Rod Streater, WR, OAK8/1/2014 11:21:00 AM
Description: Oakland wideout Rod Streater (concussion) returned to practice Thursday. Insight: The 26-year-old led the Raiders with 60 grabs and 888 yards last season and will compete with Denarius Moore for the spot opposite James Jones. Having veteran Matt Schaub at QB could help the entire receiving group, including Streater.
 Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, OAK8/1/2014 11:16:00 AM
Description: Maurice Jones-Drew and Darren McFadden are competing for the starting job in Oakland, but according to a San Jose Mercury News report and most experts both backs will see plenty of work. Insight: Assuming they are both healthy, which hasn\'t been the case for either runner lately, the title of "starter" isn\'t going to be a big deal is this shared situation.

 Derrick Rose, G, CHI7/29/2014 9:35:00 PM
Description: Syracuse coach and Team USA assistant coach Jim Boeheim said Bulls point guard Derrick Rose has been "the most impressive guy" at Team USA\'s training camp, according to ESPNChicago.com. Insight: Rose missed most of last season with a torn meniscus after sitting out all of the previous season while recovering from a torn ACL. Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau, another Team USA assistant, also praised Rose. "The same (speed and explosiveness). The strength in his leg is great. His explosion is back. That\'s all there," Thibodeau said.
Manu Ginobili, SG, SAN7/29/2014 12:06:00 PM
Description: Spurs guard Manu Ginobili (stress fracture in his right leg) has apparently not been granted permission by the Spurs to play in the FIBA World Cup of Basketball. Insight: Ginobili wanted to play for his country in the World Cup, but only if healthy. After a long and successful playoff run, it\'s not surprising that the team wanted the 37-year-old to rest as much as possible in the offseason.

 Eric Staal, C, CAR7/30/2014 5:39:00 PM
Description: Carolina center Eric Staal suffered a core muscle injury while training and needed to undergo surgery, according to hurricanes.nhl.com. Insight: GM Ron Francis said Staal should be ready for training camp. The 29-year-old had just 21 goals, 40 assists and 230 SOG over 79 games in 2013-14 after generating 18 goals, 35 assists and 152 SOG in 48 games during the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season.
Tyler Ennis, LW, BUF7/17/2014 3:34:00 PM
Description: The Sabres have signed Tyler Ennis to a multiyear contract extension. Insight: The 24-year-old had a career-high 21 goals and added 22 assists and 210 SOG over 80 games in 2013-14. The talent is lacking in Buffalo so he likely won\'t be much better than that in 2014-15.
