Santana Moss hasn't had a good fantasy output since Week 8 against Detroit.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
It's playoff time in most fantasy leagues and unlike major league baseball, pro basketball and hockey who play a seven-game series it's "one and done" for you and your team. You can't afford to make a single mistake in your lineup.
Ay, there's the rub.
All season you have played your top draft choices, through thick and thin, slump or command performance. It didn't matter if they were struggling, because you knew they would eventually turn it around, or so you thought. In the meantime, if you lost a game here or there it didn't really matter that much, because there was always tomorrow.
But it matters now.
So you have a huge decision to make - continue to start a star like Santana Moss, who is ranked 10th among wide receivers but hasn't had a good fantasy output since Week 8 against Detroit (40 points) and hasn't had a good game against a "real" defense since Week 4 in Dallas, or insert the lesser-known player who is actually playing better - Lance Moore (scored at least one TD each week since Week 8).
Or Philip Rivers, who started the season on fire and has since cooled dramatically (hasn't cracked 18 points since Week 8 against New Orleans) versus Tyler Thigpen, who has come on strong down the fantasy stretch and has a favorable matchup against the Broncos' defense?
You know in your heart what the right play is, but you can't press the button to make the switch.
Why? Because won't you look silly when you play the backup and the superstar finally puts in a "superstar" effort?
Then again, it's 14 weeks into the 2008 season and shouldn't you know what to expect from them?
Ryan Grant will be disappointing, Joseph Addai will split the workload with Dominick Rhodes and Marion Barber III will not look like the 2007 version that was a fantasy superstar.
Below you will find "name" players who should find a seat on your bench this week and some "no-name" players who should start and help you win this week's do-or-die" battle.
Week 14 big-name sitters - Barber, Clinton Portis, Reggie Bush, Addai, Grant, Tony Romo, Rivers, Moss and Braylon Edwards.
Week 14 no-name starters - Peyton Hillis, Steve Slaton, Thomas, LenDale White, Thigpen, Matt Cassel, Matt Ryan, Isaac Bruce, Moore and Eddie Royal.
