For the second consecutive playoff week, Jerome Harrison was a major factor.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
It's not Jerome Harrison's fault that you didn't win your fantasy title. Unless, of course, you were playing against the Cleveland Browns running back.
For the second consecutive playoff week, Harrison was a major factor. Last week against Kansas City he set a Browns' club record with 286 yards rushing and earned a Week 15-high 60 fantasy points.
This week the 26-year-old from Washington State faced an equally inept Oakland Raiders rush defense (ranked 28th) and carried the ball 39 times for 148 yards and a score. He posted 22 fantasy points - sixth-best among running backs for the week. It was his third "big" week in the last month.
Not bad for a free agent pickup (RapidDraft ADP 204.2).
What is even more interesting is the fact that Harrison produced double-digit points in every game where he was given at least 10 carries. Unfortunately, due to questionable coaching decisions, Harrison only reached that level of usage in five games. But in those five games he averaged 27.2 ppg.
The obvious question which comes to mind is, what was Head Coach Eric Mangini thinking? Why did he stick with an unproductive Jamal Lewis so long?
By contrast, Lewis had nine games with at least 10 carries and produced just two double-digit games.
Lewis was placed on Injured Reserve following Week 12 and Harrison produced 97 yards of offense and two TDs in Week 13. So of course, "Mangenius" promoted rookie Chris Jennings to the starting role in Week 14, while Harrison mainly watched from the sidelines.
Harrison returned to the starting role in Weeks 15 and 16 and the results have been stunning (41 ppg average).
It's interesting to note, despite a 60-point effort in Week 15 and a favorable matchup in Week 16, Harrison was still owned in just 60% of all leagues.
