Dwyane Wade is averaging 26.4 ppg - a 13% drop from last season.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
Miami superstar guard Dwyane Wade is one of the best players in the NBA and likely was a top-five pick when you had your fantasy draft. Too bad his numbers are down and he's not giving you what you expected.
Wade isn't exactly playing poorly, scoring 26.4 ppg, pulling down 5.0 rebounds and handing out 6.2 assists. It's just that those numbers are significantly lower than in 2008-09. Last year Wade averaged 30.2 ppg, but after 32 games this year that number is 26.4 ppg - a 13% drop. Last year he averaged 7.5 apg so we see an 18% drop in this category. Steals are down from 2.2-to-1.6 and blocks from 1.3-to-1.2. He's shooting less, going to the free throw line less and playing fewer minutes than last year.
Looking at those numbers, you would say that Wade is not playing nearly as well as in 2008-09. Of course, nothing is that simple and if you look closer into the statistics, you'll see that Wade isn't that far off last year's pace. It's just that Wade "went off" in the second half of 2008-09.
Wade started slowly last year too. His three best scoring months were February through April. His best assist months were February and March. He shot 50% or better from the field from February on and his accuracy from the FT line was best during the final three months.
Over Wade's seven-year career, his best scoring months are January, February and March. So despite the fact that his current numbers are down this year to last, do not panic and do not put Wade on the trading block. His best is yet to come.
