As long as Chris Kaman stays healthy, he can produce at a very high level.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
If only Los Angeles Clippers' center Chris Kaman could stay healthy.
Kaman, the seven-year center out of Central Michigan, is having the best scoring year of his career. Unfortunately, it's currently being interrupted by injury. That's not an unusual occurrence for Kaman, who played just 31 games last year and 56 games in 2007-08.
That 2007-08 year was going to be the "breakout" season for Kaman, before injury ground it to a halt. He was averaging a stunning 18.3 ppg and 14.1 rpg through November. Then a series of injuries did him in - first a shin, then the flu and finally a sprained ankle and bad back finished him for the season.
Flash forward to 2009-10 and Kaman is averaging a career-high 20.4 ppg along with 9.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists. He had played in the team's first 35 games until injuring his back in pre-game warmups on Tuesday night. Kaman missed his second consecutive start on Wednesday and is listed as day-to-day for Friday night's contest with the crosstown rival Lakers.
It's beginning to sound like 2007-08 all over again.
As I said in an article on Kaman in November..."As long as he stays healthy, he can produce at a very high level." I also added, "If you already own him, now might be the perfect time to deal him while his value is at its peak. If you are looking to trade for the Clippers' center...caveat emptor...let the buyer beware."
Given his current physical condition, you likely can't get full value for him, so it looks like you'll have to ride out the "storm" with him.
