Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
For those who paid a steep price for Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton, it might be too little, too late, but the slugger is finally coming around.
Hamilton was coming off a huge 2008, in which he batted .304 with 32 home runs and knocked in 130 runs, so he came at a very expensive price to those fantasy owners who wanted to put him in center field. He had a preseason Average Draft Position (ADP) of 10.5 which was the third overall outfielder selected behind Ryan Braun and Grady Sizemore.
Unfortunately, for most of the season Hamilton was either sidelined with injury or just not hitting up to expectations. He batted just .242 in April and .237 in May, totaling only six homers by Memorial Day.
Then on June 9th, after missing a week of games, Hamilton underwent successful surgery to repair a partial tear in his abdominal muscle. He returned to the lineup on July 6th and promptly went into another batting slump. By August 2nd, Hamilton's average was down to .220. The Rangers even dropped him to seventh in the lineup.
Over the last two weeks, however, Hamilton has found his batting stroke, going 24-for-53 (.453) with an OPS of 1.150. He's only hit one home run, but the swing is back and two days ago the team re-installed him at No.3 in the lineup.
There is still a month-and-a-half left in the season and Hamilton has the ability to put up some pretty good numbers. Perhaps he can still salvage his season and yours. Past history predicts that September will be his best month.
