Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
It's fantasy playoff time in most baseball leagues and there is no room for sentimentality. Big contract or well-known doesn't mean a thing at this time of year - only production. Start the guys who are the hottest and sit/cut those who aren't performing up to expectations.
Ian Kennedy, Arizona - The 26-year-old former first-round pick of the New York Yankees, is 19-4 having won 11 of his last 12 starts. He's established himself as one of the favorites to win the NL Cy Young Award and in his last four starts he's staked his claim to the prize by posting a 4-0 record with a stunning ERA of 0.94 and a WHIP of 0.977.
Daniel Hudson, Arizona - It's no wonder the Arizona Diamondbacks have taken control of the NL West. The combination of Cy Young Award candidate Ian Kennedy and Hudson are as tough a duo as there is. In Hudson's last four starts he's also 4-0 with an ERA of 1.14, a WHIP of 0.821 and opponents are batting just .177 of him.
Derek Holland, Texas - Holland is just 24-years-old and will have his ups and downs. Right now he's definitely up. Since an ugly loss to the Chicago White Sox on August 21st, he has rebounded with a 2-0 record in three starts. His ERA over than span is a stellar 1.77 and his WHIP is 1.033. Holland is only owned in 50% of all leagues and is a viable stretch-run addition.
Chad Billingsley, Los Angeles - Billingsley has too good an arm to be pitching like this. Over his last three games he's got an ERA of 7.30 and an astronomical WHIP of 2.59. He'll be facing the hottest pitcher in the National League - Ian Kennedy on Tuesday, so he better find his way to your bench. You can't cut him because he could turn it around at any time, but you can't start him either.
John Lackey, Boston - Lackey's been bad for most of the season, but he's redefining bad over the past three starts, going 0-3 with an ERA of 9.00 and a WHIP of 2.00. It's hard to believe that a team with deep pockets like Boston can't find a replacement? You don't need a fat wallet, just cut him and find someone else, anyone else.
Alexi Ogando, Texas - Ogando was a star earlier in the season, but right now he's just an anchor pulling your team down. Through June 10th Ogando was 7-0 with an ERA of 2.10. Over his last four appearance, he's 0-4 with an 8.53 ERA and a WHIP of 1.737. The former reliever has obviously hit the wall. Sit him for the remainder of the season in keeper leagues or cut him in single-season leagues and pick up the previously mention Holland.
