Houston Texans Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Arian Foster, RB11/20/2014 4:44:00 PM
Description: Texans coach Bill O'Brien is calling Arian Foster a game-time decision according to the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: O'Brien said the same thing last week, and Foster came no where close to playing. His chances seem better for Week 12, but keep Alfred Blue stashed just in case. Foster is a RB1 if he plays, and Blue is a decent RB2.
Arian Foster, RB11/19/2014 4:02:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster (groin) practiced on Wednesday.
Insight: It is a good sign to see him return to the practice field, but coach Bill O'Brien continues to call him "day-to-day." We will have more clarity on Foster's status later this week.
Garrett Graham, TE11/16/2014 6:36:00 PM
Description: Texans tight end Garrett Graham caught two passes, back-to-back, in the two minute drill at the end of the second quarter.
Insight: The second catch went for a touchdown. Graham is still not fantasy relevant as he has just 14 catches this season.
Andre Johnson, WR11/16/2014 6:30:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson caught seven passes for 68 yards versus the Browns.
Insight: Johnson led the team with nine targets in Ryan Mallett's first game. His fantasy owners should be happy with the change under center.
DeAndre Hopkins, WR11/16/2014 6:26:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins had just four catches but gained 80 yards through the air on Sunday.
Insight: Even though Hopkins was not able to find the end zone again, he still turned in a good fantasy day. Ryan Mallett targeted Hopkins eight times and Andre Johnson nine.
Alfred Blue, RB11/16/2014 6:22:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Alfred Blue gained 156 yards on 36 carries against the Browns.
Insight: Blue earned the start with Arian Foster out with an injury. An early lead certainly helped Blue get a career-high 36 carries. He is a decent FLEX play as long as Foster is sidelined.
Ryan Mallett, QB11/16/2014 6:19:00 PM
Description: Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett played very well in his first NFL start.
Insight: Mallett was not afraid to throw the ball downfield, which was likely why coach Bill O'Brien made a change under center because Ryan Fitzpatrick did not or was not able to take deep shots. Mallett was 20-for-30 with 211 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
Alfred Blue, RB11/15/2014 1:44:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Alfred Blue will start Sunday against the Browns.
Insight: Arian Foster is officially out, and against a struggling Cleveland run-defense, Blue will have a nice opportunity to produce.
Arian Foster, RB11/15/2014 1:42:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster (groin) has officially been ruled out for Week 11.
Insight: This is no surprise, and Alfred Blue will make the start, and should be considered an RB2.
Alfred Blue, RB11/14/2014 4:57:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Alfred Blue will have an opportunity to produce, if Arian Foster is unable to play in Week 11.
Insight: Multiple reports, including ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported that Foster is unlikely to play. As a result, Blue will be a solid RB2 option, against the Browns on Sunday.
Arian Foster, RB11/14/2014 1:34:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster (groin) won't play, according to Jayson Braddock of 790 Houston.
Insight: While he looked likely to play early in the week, that optimism has dipped over the last day or so. Still, we have no official word on the subject other than he'll be a "game-time" decision. Alfred Blue needs to be owned in all leagues, as he will have RB2 potential, if Foster sits.
Arian Foster, RB11/13/2014 4:25:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster (groin) will be a game-time decision for Week 11 against Cleveland, according to coach Bill O'Brien.
Insight: While he looked likely to play early in the week, that optimism has dipped over the last day or so. Alfred Blue needs to be owned in all leagues, as he will have RB2 potential, if Foster sits.
Arian Foster, RB11/12/2014 5:26:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster (groin) did not practice on Wednesday.
Insight: He is being considered day-to-day, and we'll will have more clarity on his status on Thursday or Friday. Alfred Blue would be in line for an increased workload, ff Foster cannot go.
Arian Foster, RB11/11/2014 11:15:00 AM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster (groin) is expected to be ready for Week 11, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: Houston had a bye week so Foster had two weeks to get healthy and apparently he has. He's a must start when in the lineup with six 100-yard games this season.
Ryan Mallett, QB11/5/2014 1:01:00 PM
Description: Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett was named the starter for Week 11 against the Browns.
Insight: Houston is on a bye this week, but once they come out out of it, Mallett will be under center. Coach Bill O'Brien praised his grasp of the offense, and now Mallett will have a nice opportunity to produce on a solid football team.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB11/5/2014 12:59:00 PM
Description: Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has been benched in favor of Ryan Mallett.
Insight: Fitzpatrick wasn't playing terribly, but was not impressive either. He had 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions, through nine games.
Arian Foster, RB11/3/2014 4:08:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster has an injured groin, but the only information we have been given is "day-to-day" by Texans coach Bill O'Brien.
Insight: Foster went down without help from a defender and injured his groin. At least it wasn't a re-aggravation of the hamstring injuries, Houston has a bye week so Foster has two weeks to get healthy.
Arian Foster, RB11/2/2014 6:30:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster threw his helmet down and walked to the locker room in disgust.
Insight: Foster went down without help from a defender and injured his groin. At least it wasn't a re-aggravation of the hamstring injuries, that have plagued him of late.
Andre Johnson, WR11/2/2014 6:15:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson caught just two passes for 12 yards against the Eagles.
Insight: Owners hoped for a lot more with this friendly matchup. Johnson has 563 receiving yards and just one touchdown this season.
DeAndre Hopkins, WR11/2/2014 6:11:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins had six receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown against the Eagles on Sunday.
Insight: Hopkins led the team with 11 targets. He is passing Andre Johnson in fantasy realms, who caught just two of his seven targets.
Alfred Blue, RB11/2/2014 6:07:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Alfred Blue will be one of the top waiver wire pickups this week.
Insight: That won't be because of his production, but because of Arian Foster's injury. Blue rushed for 13 yards on seven carries after Foster left Sunday's game against the Eagles with an injury. We do not yet know how serious Foster's injury is.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB11/2/2014 6:03:00 PM
Description: Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for two touchdowns and an interception against the Eagles.
Insight: Fitzpatrick was 13-for-27 with 203 yards, but sacks continued to plague the Texans offense. Fitzpatrick took four sacks and without Arian Foster for most of the second half, Houston could not muster enough offense to stick with the Eagles.
Arian Foster, RB11/2/2014 3:14:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster threw his helmet down and is walking to the locker room.
Insight: Foster went down without help from a defender and it appears to be a leg injury, possibly a re-aggravation of the hamstring injuries, that have plagued him of late.
Johnathan Joseph, DB11/2/2014 1:46:00 PM
Description: Texans' cornerback Johnathan Joseph collided with Darren Sproles in the first quarter and has not returned.
Insight: Joseph is being checked for a possible concussion. The Texans were already thin at the corners.
Andre Johnson, WR11/2/2014 12:00:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson (ankle) is ready to go for Week 9's contest against Philadelphia.
Insight: He was listed as probable and will be a WR2 against a weak Eagles' secondary, though the Texans have been a run-first team all season.
Arian Foster, RBHot11/2/2014 11:56:00 AM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster (knee) was listed as probable for Week 9 against the Eagles, but there was never a doubt he was going to play.
Insight: He is locked and loaded as an RB1, and will be looking for his fifth-consecutive 100-yard game.
Jadeveon Clowney, LB11/2/2014 11:55:00 AM
Description: Texans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney is inactive in Week 9.
Insight: Clowney apparently is still too ill to play. The Eagles offense will be better off having to only concentrate on stopping J.J. Watt than both pass rushers.
Brian Cushing, LB11/1/2014 9:57:00 AM
Description: Texans inside linebacker Brian Cushing (knee) is expected to play Sunday against the Eagles.
Insight: He practiced on Friday for the first time since Week 7, and while he is listed as questionable, it looks like Cushing will be on the field. He has 50 tackles and one sack this season, and will continue to anchor the linebacking core.
Andre Johnson, WR10/31/2014 4:30:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson (ankle) should be ready to go for Week 9's contest against Philadelphia.
Insight: He is listed as probable and will be a WR2, with WR1 upside, against a weak Eagles' secondary.
Arian Foster, RBHot10/31/2014 4:28:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster (knee) is listed as probable for Week 9 against the Eagles.
Insight: He is locked and loaded as an RB1, and will be looking for his fifth-consecutive 100-yard game.
Jadeveon Clowney, LB10/31/2014 2:20:00 PM
Description: Texans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney isn't likely to play, according to Texans beat reporter Tania Ganguli.
Insight: Clowney apparently is ill, it isn't knee related.
Andre Johnson, WR10/26/2014 6:04:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson totaled 12 targets during Week 8.
Insight: He caught seven of them for 55 yards, but owners would like him to score some more touchdowns, as he has only one in 2014.
DeAndre Hopkins, WR10/26/2014 6:02:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins led the team in receiving on Sunday.
Insight: On 11 targets, Hopkins had five catches for 95 yards, but was unable to find the end zone. He will be a WR3, moving forward.
Arian Foster, RBHot10/26/2014 6:01:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster had another big game, Sunday against the Titans.
Insight: He rushed for 151 yards, his fourth-consecutive 100-yard rushing game, and had two touchdowns on the ground as well. Foster also chipped in with four catches for 22 yards, and additional score. He is one of the best halfbacks in football right now.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB10/26/2014 5:59:00 PM
Description: Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick had a decent afternoon against Tennessee.
Insight: He threw for 227 yards and a score, but should be considered a QB2 the rest of the season.
Jadeveon Clowney, LB10/26/2014 12:12:00 PM
Description: Texans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney will play against the Titans on Sunday.
Insight: Poor rookie third-string quarterback Zach Mettenberger, he'll face J.J. Watt and Clowney when he goes back to pass.
Andre Johnson, WR10/26/2014 12:09:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson (ankle) is active after being limited in practice all week.
Insight: No surprise here. Owners roll with Johnson, as you normally would.
Jadeveon Clowney, LB10/25/2014 1:05:00 PM
Description: Texans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney is likely to play against the Titans on Sunday according to the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: Clowney has not played since Week 1 due to a knee injury. If he plays, Bill O'Brien will keep Clowney on what he called a "pitch count". The Texans defense is a great start against the Titans, who will be starting rookie third-string quarterback Zach Mettenberger.
Jadeveon Clowney, LB10/23/2014 1:13:00 PM
Description: Texans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney (knee) has his knee is still sore, but he can push through it, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: Clowney was close to returning in Week 7 and listed as questionable for Week 8, but it sounds like he's ready to give it a try. The addition of Clowney to the Texans defense would make them a top Week 8 choice against a suspect Tennessee offense.
Andre Johnson, WR10/21/2014 11:01:00 AM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson caught five balls for 77 yards.
Insight: Johnson is still the guy Ryan Fitzpatrick looks for first, but defenses key on him too and he's not quite as good as in past seasons.
DeAndre Hopkins, WR10/21/2014 10:59:00 AM
Description: Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins was busy Monday night, catching six of nine targets for 108 yards.
Insight: It was a nice bounce back after being invisible against Indianapolis in Week 6. He's a WR3, but can sometimes surprise with a big number.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB10/21/2014 10:57:00 AM
Description: If you were forced to use Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick Monday night, he didn't hurt you with a solid 262-yard, two touchdown, one interception effort versus Pittsburgh.
Insight: Fitzpatrick isn't a trustworthy fantasy option, but has played better over the past few games as teams have keyed on Arian Foster.
Arian Foster, RBHot10/21/2014 10:50:00 AM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster posted another 100-yard game Monday night, his fifth such effort in six games this season.
Insight: Fantasy owners are probably a little unhappy Alfred Blue scored the first touchdown of the game, but Foster scored late and posted solid numbers again.
Jadeveon Clowney, LB10/20/2014 7:35:00 PM
Description: Texans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney (knee) is out for Monday night's game against Pittsburgh.
Insight: He was questionable coming in, but Houston did not see enough in practice to give Clowney the go-ahead. Consider him questionable for Week 8.
Garrett Graham, TECold10/20/2014 4:20:00 PM
Description: Texans TE Garrett Graham was held without a catch in Houston's Week 6 loss to the Colts as he continues his slid from fantasy-worthy status.
Insight: Graham caught 49 balls for 545 yards and five touchdowns while sharing time with Owen Daniels last season and some thought he could blossom with Daniels in Baltimore. That hasn't happened and we aren't expecting much from him on Monday night against the Steelers.
Damaris Johnson, WR10/20/2014 4:15:00 PM
Description: Former Eagles and now Texans wide receiver and kick returner Damaris Johnson saw a season-high three catches for 62 yards against Indianapolis and might see action with the offense again Monday night.
Insight: He's a solid return man and if you can get him in open space he's tough to pull down. He might be useful for the Texans in three-receiver packages, but fantasy owners in non-return leagues should steer clear.
Andre Johnson, WR10/17/2014 7:21:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson (anke) has been limited in practices all week.
Insight: He is still expected to play, and should be considered a WR2 for Week 7.
Arian Foster, RB10/17/2014 7:19:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster (groin) was a full participant in Friday's practice.
Insight: He is locked and loaded as an RB1 for Monday night's tilt versus Pittsburgh.
Jadeveon Clowney, LB10/17/2014 7:18:00 PM
Description: Texans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney (knee) returned to practice on Friday.
Insight: This was the first time he practiced since going under the knife after Week 1. He will be a game-time decision for Monday night's game against the Steelers.
Jadeveon Clowney, LB10/15/2014 3:45:00 PM
Description: Texans coach Bill O'Brien said there is a 50/50 chance outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney returns to the field for the Monday night game against the Steelers.
Insight: Clowney has not played since suffering a torn meniscus in Week 1. J.J. Watt has been carrying the Texans defense, and he should be even more effective should Houston get back its second-best pash rusher.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB10/13/2014 5:52:00 PM
Description: Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick went 15-of-23 for 212 yards and a touchdown against the Colts on Thursday night.
Insight: Fitzpatrick did not throw an interception but was sacked five times as Houston really struggled to move the ball in the first quarter. The Texans made the contest a game, but ultimately, fell short.
J.J. Watt, DE10/10/2014 9:49:00 AM
Description: Texans defensive end J.J. Watt did everything he could to help bring his Houston team a victory, but ultimately it wasn't enough.
Insight: Watt had four tackles, two sacks, three passes defended and returned a fumble 45 yards for a touchdown. It just wasn't enough to overcome Andrew Luck and T.Y. Hilton.
DeAndre Hopkins, WRCold10/10/2014 9:46:00 AM
Description: Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins was a non-factor Thursday night, seeing just two targets and catching one for 12 yards.
Insight: That was a bit disappointing after Hopkins had shown us so much over the first five games. Hopkins is usually a WR3 option, with WR2 upside, but not Thursday.
Andre Johnson, WR10/10/2014 9:44:00 AM
Description: There were questions about Texans receiver Andre Johnson health heading into Thursday's game, but Johnson answered then with a solid game.
Insight: Johnson caught seven of 12 targets for 99 yards and a touchdown, but a costly fumble in the fourth quarter cost his team a chance at a comeback win.
Arian Foster, RBHot10/10/2014 9:42:00 AM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster added a 109-yard, two TD night onto last weekend's 157-yard game.
Insight: Foster is obviously healthy again which makes him a top-five back in any league.
Andre Johnson, WR10/9/2014 7:32:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson is active for Week 6 against the Colts.
Insight: Johnson hasn't had a very good season as DeAndre Hopkins has become the No. 1 receiver option in Houston, but if you so desire to play Johnson, he will be on the field Thursday.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB10/9/2014 7:30:00 PM
Description: Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is active for Thursday night against the Colts.
Insight: He likely isn't going to be in many lineups but if you have him, he is playing.
Alfred Blue, RB10/9/2014 7:24:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Alfred Blue is active for Thursday night's game against the Colts.
Insight: Blue will not get many carries though unless Arian Foster suffers an injury.
Arian Foster, RB10/5/2014 6:20:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster rushed for 157 yards on 23 carries and gained 15 receiving yards against the Cowboys on Sunday.
Insight: Foster also scored two touchdowns to cap off a huge fantasy day. Foster has gone over 100 yards and 22 carries in three of the four games he has been dressed. When healthy, it is hard to find a back better than Foster.
Andre Johnson, WR10/5/2014 11:24:00 AM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson looks fine in warmups and is expected to play, according to NFL Network's Steve Wyche.
Insight: Johnson has 22 catches for 262 yards this season, but hasn't produced a 100-yeard game or a touchdown. DeAndre Hopkins is becoming the Texans' big-play guy and Johnson is a WR2 at best.
Arian Foster, RB10/3/2014 3:40:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster played, but was rather ineffective. With another week of rest, however, he should be more likely to receive a normal workload.
Insight: Foster should still be considered a RB1 moving forward, unless he re-aggravated the hamstring injury.
Andre Johnson, WR9/28/2014 5:10:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson produces solid game.
Insight: He just keeps doing what he does. Johnson had six catches for 71 yards, on seven targets. He has yet to find the end zone in 2014, but that should come soon. Consider Johnson a WR2.
DeAndre Hopkins, WR9/28/2014 5:08:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins hauls in third touchdown of season.
Insight: He finished with five receptions for 64 yards, on six targets. Hopkins is a fine WR3 option, with WR2 upside.
Arian Foster, RB9/28/2014 5:05:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster played, but was rather ineffective.
Insight: He did nothing on the ground, carrying the ball eight times for only six yards. Foster did add seven receptions for 55 yards though. If he is able to stay on the field, Foster should still be considered a RB1 moving forward.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB9/28/2014 5:01:00 PM
Description: Houston QB Ryan Fitzpatrick throws for one touchdown in win.
Insight: He was not great for fantasy owners today, going 25-for-37 for 268 yards and two interceptions. He did however lead the Texans in rushing yards, with 14.
Arian Foster, RB9/28/2014 11:17:00 AM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster (hamstring) is offically active against the Titans.
Insight: His workload is in question, so Foster will be more of a RB2 today, with upside. Alfred Blue should still get some touches today as well.
Arian Foster, RB9/28/2014 10:43:00 AM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster (hamstring) will play, according to nfl.com's Ian Rapoprt.
Insight: The good news is Houston plays at 1 pm ET, so we will know his status for sure by noon on Sunday at the latest. Alfred Blue would be the fantasy option if Foster cannot go.
Arian Foster, RBHot9/25/2014 12:18:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster will likely be a game-time decision for Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills according to CSN Houston.
Insight: The good news is Houston plays at 1 pm ET, so we will know his status by noon on Sunday. Personally, we don't expect him to play and The Sports Network running back rankings for Week 4 reflect that. Alfred Blue will be the starter if Foster cannot go.
DeAndre Hopkins, WR9/21/2014 5:53:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins caught six passes for 116 yards against the Giants in Week 3.
Insight: Hopkins led the Texans receivers with receptions and receiving yards. Andre Johnson still led the team with 11 targets, but Johnson caught just four passes for 24 yards. Hopkins had nine targets.
Alfred Blue, RB9/21/2014 5:51:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Alfred Blue carried the ball 13 times for 78 yards starting in place for the injured Arian Foster.
Insight: Blue looked good, averaging six yards per carry and rushing for 46 yards on one play. With Foster's injury history, Blue is a viable pick up this coming week.
Alfred Blue, RB9/21/2014 11:43:00 AM
Description: Texans rookie Alfred Blue is expected to start on Sunday against the Giants.
Insight: Foster will miss the game due to a hamstring injury. Blue rushed for 40 yards on 11 carries against the Raiders in Week 2. It appears that Blue has moved ahead of Joanthan Grimes, who rushed for nine yards on three carries in Week 2, on the depth chart.
Arian Foster, RBHot9/21/2014 11:40:00 AM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster is inactive against the Giants on Sunday due to a hamstring injury.
Insight: Running back Alfred Blue is expected to start in his place. He rushed for 40 yards on 11 carries against the Raiders in Week 2.
Arian Foster, RBHot9/19/2014 3:25:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster is probable for Sunday's game against the New York Giants.
Insight: He has totaled 55 rushing attempts over the first two weeks which extrapolates to 440 rushing attempts over a 16-game schedule and the injury-prone back has zero chance of surviving that.
DeAndre Hopkins, WR9/16/2014 12:34:00 PM
Description: Houston receiver DeAndre Hopkins, scored in Week 2 from 12 yards out, but is still the second option behind aging Andre Johnson.
Insight: Hopkins has shown us flashes of talent, but has been targeted 10 times over two games this season to 16 for Johnson. That as much as the quarterback situation is going to limit Hopkins' upside.
Jonathan Grimes, RBCold9/16/2014 12:31:00 PM
Description: Houston running back Jonathan Grimes rushed just three times for nine yards in Week 2 after a one-carry Week 1.
Insight: It appears that Alfred Blue has jumped over Grimes for the "coveted" handcuff role to oft-injured Foster. Adjust your roster accordingly.
Alfred Blue, RB9/16/2014 12:27:00 PM
Description: Texans rookie Alfred Blue saw 11 carries for 40 yards in a late-game relief role for starter Arian Foster.
Insight: It appears that Blue has jumped over Jonathan Grimes for the "coveted" handcuff role to oft-injured Foster. Adjust your roster accordingly.
Arian Foster, RBHot9/15/2014 4:18:00 PM
Description: Bad news for Texans running back Arian Foster's fantasy owners as coach Bill O'Brien said he needed to do a better job spreading the workload, according to Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: He carried the Texans' offense in Week 2 rushing 28 times for 138 yards and a score and could have posted more if the Texans hadn't called off the dogs. He's totaled 55 rushing attempts over the first two weeks which extrapolates to 440 rushing attempts over a 16-game schedule and the injury-prone back has zero chance of surviving that.
C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE9/15/2014 2:25:00 PM
Description: Texans tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz is questionable for Sunday's game against the NY Giants due to a foot injury.
Insight: Fiedorowicz didn't catch a ball in Week 1 and Garrett Graham just one for 26 yards in Week 2, so it appears Houston isn't involving the tight end in to the offense.
Arian Foster, RBHot9/14/2014 8:06:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster showed why he is a top-five fantasy player ... when healthy.
Insight: He carried the Texans' offense in Week 2 rushing 28 times for 138 yards and a score and could have posted more if the Texans hadn't called off the dogs.
J.J. Watt, DE9/14/2014 8:05:00 PM
Description: Is Texans defensive end J.J. Watt the next Mike Vrabel?
Insight: The Patriots linebacker made a name on offense as well as defense with 10 career receptions ... all for touchdowns. After Sunday, Watt has one catch for one yard and one touchdown.
Arian Foster, RB9/14/2014 3:24:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster was listed as probable for Week 2 and he's active as expected.

Arian Foster, RB9/12/2014 8:30:00 PM

Garrett Graham, TE9/12/2014 3:53:00 PM
Description: Texans TE Garrett Graham (back) was inactive for Week 1, but should return and step right into the starting lineup.
Insight: Graham has always been a sneaky option while sharing the position with Owens Daniels. Daniels is gone and Graham could have fantasy value if he can get, and stay, healthy.
Arian Foster, RB9/11/2014 1:51:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster said the heavy workload will continue in Week 2.
Insight: Foster led the league with 27 rushing attempts in Week 1 and also had two catches. New head coach Bill O'Brien has made it clear that he will use Foster as a work-horse back. With the Texans visiting Oakland this week, Foster may lead the league in carries again for Week 2.
Garrett Graham, TE9/10/2014 4:46:00 PM
Description: Texans TE Garrett Graham (back) was inactive for Week 1, but returned to practice Wednesday.
Insight: Graham has always been a sneaky option while sharing the position with Owens Daniels. Daniels is gone and Graham could have fantasy value if he can get, and stay, healthy.
Jadeveon Clowney, LB9/8/2014 4:20:00 PM
Description: Texans linebacker Jadeveon Clowney is out 4-6 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his knee.
Insight: This loss is huge for the Texan defense, which held Washington to six points in Week 1. The defense is built on pass rush with Clowney and J.J. Watt. For fantasy, Houston's defense takes a huge hit without Clowney.
Jadeveon Clowney, LB9/8/2014 12:12:00 AM
Description: Houston linebacker Jadeveon Clowney left the game with a knee injury and early reports is a torn lateral meniscus, according to Houston beat writer John McClain.
Insight: Inititial timetable for return is 4-6 weeks. McClain is usually on top of things, so we will go with this until we get an official update.
Jadeveon Clowney, LB9/7/2014 3:55:00 PM
Description: Houston linebacker Jadeveon Clowney left the game with a knee injury.
Insight: He is not expected to return. Clowney walked off on his own, so perhaps its not too serious, but we await further word.
Garrett Graham, TE9/7/2014 12:12:00 PM
Description: Texans TE Garrett Graham (back) is inactive for Week 1.
Insight: Graham has always been a sneaky option while sharing the position with Owens Daniels. Daniels is gone and Graham could have fantasy value if he can get healthy. Rookie C.J. Fiedorowicz should see most of the tight end targets in Week 1.
Case Keenum, QB8/31/2014 2:18:00 PM
Description: Houston quarterback Case Keenum has been waived.
Insight: It was the inevitable conclusion after the Texans traded for Ryan Mallett. Figure Ryan Fitzpatrick to start the season, but both Tom Savage and Mallett should also see time under center.
Andre Johnson, WR8/20/2014 9:07:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson (hamstring) has shown no signs of rust so far, according to cbssports.com.
Insight: Johnson sat out OTAs and minicamp because he wanted to be traded and he missed the early portion of training camp with a hamstring injury. We have confidence in his ability to build a rapport with new QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and learn Bill O'Brien's offensive scheme quickly. He had 109 catches, 1,407 yards and five touchdowns on 181 targets last season despite having to catch passes from Matt Schaub and Case Keenum.
Arian Foster, RB8/19/2014 8:40:00 PM
Description: According to the Houston Chronicle, Texans running back Arian Foster (hamstring) increased his activity in Tuesday's practice.
Insight: Foster has been dealing with a hamstring injury and is questionable for the third preseason game. He has a huge workload coming his way if he can stay healthy.
Jonathan Grimes, RBHot8/17/2014 12:39:00 PM
Description: Houston running back Jonathan Grimes put forth a solid argument for his being the No. 2 back with 42 yards rushing on nine carries, three catches for 25 yards and a special teams touchdown.
Insight: The winner of the battle for a backup spot to Arian Foster is a "must-handcuff" as Foster, who is already dealing with a hamstring injury, has missed 11 games over the past three years.
Arian Foster, RB8/13/2014 3:56:00 PM
Description: According to Dave Zangaro of csnhouston.com, Texans running back Arian Foster (hamstring) returned to practice Wednesday.
Insight: Foster didn't participate in the entire session, as the team is likely trying to manage his reps to make sure he gets to the regular season 100 percent healthy. The running back will likely finish in the top three in the NFL in touches if he stays on the field.
Andre Johnson, WR8/13/2014 3:55:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson (hamstring) returned to practice Wednesday, according to Dave Zangaro of csnhouston.com. He's questionable for the team's second preseason contest.
Insight: Johnson pulled his right hamstring at the end of July and missed the first preseason game. The 33-year-old has played 16 games in back-to-back seasons after sitting out 12 across 2010 and 2011. It's good to see him back on the field so he can build a rapport with Ryan Fitzpatrick and become more familiar with Bill O'Brien's offensive system after he skipped OTAs and minicamp.
Jonathan Grimes, RB8/11/2014 8:22:00 PM
Description: The Houston Chronicle reported Monday afternoon that Jonathan Grimes was now the frontrunner for the Texans' backup running back job and just a few hours later the team released Andre Brown and Dennis Johnson.
Insight: It was assumed Brown would get the job as Ben Tate's replacement due to his past experience as New York's starter, but he didn't play in the preseason opener and was cut two days later. Grimes is the necessary handcuff to Arian Foster, who is dealing with a hamstring injury already and missed 11 games the past three years.
Andre Brown, RB8/11/2014 8:17:00 PM
Description: The Texans have released running back Andre Brown, according to Pro Football Talk.
Insight: Brown didn't see a snap in the preseason opener, which coach Bill O'Brien said was because there wasn't enough time (the Texans had just 41 plays and lost 32-0 to the Cardinals), and Houston handed him a pink slip a couple days later. When he signed a one-year, $645,000 contract with the Texans in the offseason, it was believed he would be replacing Ben Tate as Arian Foster's backup, but that job will go to Jonathan Grimes. Dennis Johnson was also cut Monday.
Jonathan Grimes, RB8/11/2014 4:27:00 PM
Description: It appears that Jonathan Grimes has the lead in the battle for backup to oft-injured Arian Foster, according to Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: The role has been useful to fantasy owners with Foster missing 11 games over the past three seasons. There's still three weeks to go, however, and Andre Brown could win the handcuff job.
Andre Johnson, WR8/10/2014 8:34:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson (hamstring) could be back in the team's second preseason game, according to houstontexans.com.
Insight: Johnson pulled his right hamstring at the end of July and hasn't practiced. The 33-year-old has played 16 games in back-to-back seasons after sitting out 12 across 2010 and 2011. We'd like him to get back on the field so he can build a rapport with Ryan Fitzpatrick and become more familiar with Bill O'Brien's offensive system after he skipped OTAs and minicamp.
Arian Foster, RB8/10/2014 8:31:00 PM
Description: According to houstontexans.com, Texans coach Bill O'Brien said Arian Foster is close to returning from a hamstring injury.
Insight: Foster has missed most of camp with a hamstring injury, but O'Brien said the running back has a chance to play in the team's second preseason game. We'll see if he returns to practice this week. Foster remains a high-risk, high-reward first-round fantasy pick.
Andre Brown, RB8/10/2014 7:49:00 PM
Description: According to Tania Ganguli of ESPN.com, Texans coach Bill O'Brien said Andre Brown didn't play in the first preseason game because the team ran so few offensive plays.
Insight: The Texans had just 41 plays and lost 32-0 to the Cardinals. O'Brien said the plan was to play Jonathan Grimes, Alfred Blue and Dennis Johnson, in that order. It's unclear if Brown is behind them on the depth chart or if the Texans already know what they have in him and wanted to see the other backs. With injury-prone Arian Foster on top of the depth chart, we'll continue to monitor the situation to see who emerges as the necessary handcuff.
Andre Johnson, WR8/6/2014 9:27:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson (hamstring) isn't expected to play in the preseason opener, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: Johnson pulled his right hamstring last Monday and hasn't returned to practice yet. The 33-year-old has played 16 games in back-to-back seasons after sitting out 12 across 2010 and 2011.
Arian Foster, RB8/3/2014 1:28:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster continues to miss training camp due to a hamstring injury and Sunday was the fourth straight day of missing practice.
Insight: This doesn't appear to be a serious injury, but with Foster you always have to worry. He has top-five ability if healthy for a full season, but he missed eight games last season and three in 2011.
Arian Foster, RB7/29/2014 3:56:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster has a hamstring injury, according to a Houston Chronicle report.
Insight: This doesn't appear to be a serious injury, but with Foster you always have to worry. He has top-five ability if healthy for a full season, but he missed eight games last season and three in 2011.
Andre Johnson, WR7/25/2014 11:20:00 AM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson reported to training camp Friday after talking with management during the week, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: Johnson (109 catches, 1,407 yards, five touchdowns in 2013) had wanted out of Houston, but that doesn't appear to be an option. On the downside of his career, he's still a WR1.
Andre Johnson, WR7/10/2014 3:13:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson wants out of Houston, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Insight: Johnson (109 catches, 1,407 yards, five touchdowns in 2013) posted another good season despite the obvious problems the team had at quarterback last season and at 33-years-old apparently doesn't want to go through a rebuilding period.
Andre Johnson, WR7/9/2014 8:09:00 PM
Description: When asked if he'll be at training camp, Texans receiver Andre Johnson told Marcus Smith of NFL Network "hopefully" and added "we'll see what happens."
Insight: Johnson (109 catches, 1,407 yards, five touchdowns in 2013) expressed his desire to be traded because he doesn't want to go through another rebuild with the Texans. He'll likely be with Houston when the season starts and is a bargain at his ADP of 46.6 (fantasyfootballcalculator.com).
T.J. Yates, QB6/17/2014 8:44:00 PM
Description: The Texans have released quarterback T.J. Yates. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL.com
Insight: Prior to getting cut, Yates had fallen to fourth on the team's QB depth chart behind Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tom Savage and Case Keenum. Yates should find a backup job somewhere but he won't have fantasy value.
Andre Johnson, WR6/17/2014 7:48:00 PM
Description: As expected, Houston wideout Andre Johnson was not present for the start of minicamp. SOURCE: Houston Chronicle
Insight: Johnson (109 catches, 1,407 yards, five touchdowns in 2013) is hoping for a trade, though the Texans don't seem willing to accomodate him. This standoff could last well into training camp.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB6/17/2014 2:30:00 PM
Description: Houston QB Ryan Fitzpatrick was named the starter by coach Bill O'Brien.
Insight: Considering O'Brien's other options, this isn't much of an announcement. It's also the reason star wideout Andre Johnson isn't happy. We're expecting a huge workload for running back Arian Foster.
Jadeveon Clowney, LB6/13/2014 8:53:00 PM
Description: Houston linebacker Jadeveon Clowney underwent hernia surgery on Thursday but is still hoping to be ready for the start of training camp. SOURCE: Houston Chronicle
Insight: That gives him about five weeks to recover. The No. 1 pick in last month's draft recently signed a four-year contract.
Jadeveon Clowney, LB6/6/2014 6:56:00 PM
Description: The Texans have signed No. 1 draft pick Jadeveon Clowney to a four-year, $22.3 million contract.
Insight: Clowney was a defensive end in college but he'll switch to linebacker to accomodate defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel's new scheme. Clowney and 2012 Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt will give opposing QBs all they can handle next season.
Arian Foster, RB5/22/2014 9:11:00 PM
Description: The Texans would like to use Arian Foster more in the passing game next season. SOURCE: MyFoxHouston.com
Insight: Foster has good hands for a halfback, averaging 405.3 receiving yards per season since 2010. Opting for shorter passes could also improve Ryan Fitzpatrick's completion percentage. It's a win/win for everyone.
Andre Johnson, WR5/22/2014 9:05:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson is expected to skip the team's upcoming mandatory minicamp. SOURCE: NFL.com
Insight: It's pretty clear Johnson wants out of Houston. But unfortunately, it's not up to him. The star wideout is under contract until 2017 and the team has no obligation to trade him. Unless another team is willing to take on most of Johnson's remaining $29 million salary, he's unlikely to be dealt.
Andre Johnson, WR5/13/2014 7:37:00 PM
Description: Andre Johnson doesn't sound convinced about his future in Houston. SOURCE: Tania Ganguli, ESPN
Insight: He's decided not to attend OTAs or mini-camp. Johnson (109 receptions, 1,407 yards, 5 TD) won't be a free agent until 2017 so he'd have to ask for a trade in order to leave Houston.
Jadeveon Clowney, DE5/8/2014 8:27:00 PM
Description: Houston used its No. 1 pick on South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.
Insight: It was an easy pick. Clowney was clearly the best player in the draft and he should have a chance to make an impact right away. The last time a defensive player was taken No. 1 overall was back in 2006 when the Texans took NC State defensive end Mario Williams.
Andre Brown, RB4/7/2014 4:48:00 PM
Description: Former Giants running back Andre Brown has agreed to a one-year deal with Houston, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: Brown will take over the Ben Tate role as Arian Foster's backup. Dennis Johnson and Jonathan Grimes are also on the roster but neither is a threat to take away carries from Brown.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB3/20/2014 6:45:00 PM
Description: Ryan Fitzpatrick has agreed to a two-year deal with Houston. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL.com
Insight: Fitzpatrick is likely to backup whatever rookie quarterback the Texans end up selecting on draft day. The former Titan delivered 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions last season.
Arian Foster, RB3/16/2014 12:59:00 PM
Description: Arian Foster tweeted that he's been medically cleared. The Texans halfback underwent back surgery in November.
Insight: Foster ran for 4.5 yards per carry last season which is consistent with his career average. With Houston likely to use a rookie quarterback in 2014, Foster is going to see a ton of work next season. He should be a first-round pick in most fantasy drafts this summer.
Matt Schaub, QB3/12/2014 3:22:00 PM
Description: The Raiders have their eye on Texans QB Matt Schaub. SOURCE: Jerry McDonald, Oakland Tribune
Insight: Schaub imploded last season and with the Texans likely to draft a quarterback with the first pick, he shouldn't be in Houston for much longer. Schaub's best season came in 2009 when he led the league with 4,770 passing yards. That was also the year he made his only Pro Bowl appearance.
Owen Daniels, TE3/11/2014 6:44:00 PM
Description: Houston has released tight end Owen Daniels. SOURCE: John McClain, Houston Chronicle
Insight: Daniels only saw the field five times last season, logging 24 catches for 252 receiving yards and three touchdowns. If he can stay healthy, Daniels should be a strong bounceback candidate for 2014. Of course, a lot of that depends on what team he ends up signing with.
Arian Foster, RB2/21/2014 4:18:00 PM
Description: Houston running back Arian Foster (season-ending back surgery on November 15th) is progressing on schedule, according to GM Rick Smith.
Insight: Foster should be ready for training camp, but his inability to stay healthy has to concern fantasy owners and the Texans. Ben Tate is likely to leave in free agency so expect Houston to draft a running back not long after selecting a quarterback of the future.
Ben Tate, RB12/30/2013 9:19:00 PM
Description: Soon-to-be free agent Ben Tate acknowledged Monday that he has probably played his last game as a Texan. SOURCE: John McClain, Houston Chronicle
Insight: For years we've been wondering what kind of numbers Tate would produce if he were a featured back instead of having to split carries with Arian Foster. Soon we'll know the answer. Cleveland seems like the best fit for Tate though ultimately he's going to sign wherever he can get the most money.
Case Keenum, QB12/29/2013 11:59:00 AM
Description: Houston quarterback Case Keenum is out with a sprained thumb. Matt Schaub will get the start under center Sunday in the regular season finale.
Insight: Keenum has thrown just one touchdown and five interceptions in his last four games. Schaub hasn't been much better with 2 TD and seven picks in his last five appearances. The Texans, losers of 13 straight, are closing in on the No. 1 pick in next year's NFL Draft.
Case Keenum, QBCold12/27/2013 3:48:00 PM
Description: Texans quarterback Case Keenum (thumb) will be a game-time decision Sunday against Tennessee, according to houstontexans.com.
Insight: Matt Schaub started the last two games with Keenum out with a sprained thumb. Neither QB is a fantasy option in Week 17 and Andre Johnson's fantasy value remains the same with both players.
Johnathan Joseph, DB12/24/2013 4:27:00 PM
Description: Texans' cornerback Johnathan Joseph is done for the season due to a toe injury.
Insight: Joseph like the rest of the Texans didn't live up to expectations.
Jonathan Grimes, RB12/23/2013 5:32:00 PM
Description: The Texans have named Jonathan Grimes the starting running back for Week 17 against the Titans.
Insight: Deji Karim suffered a broken collarbone in Week 16 and Dennis Johnson is questionable for Sunday's game due to a hip injury. Even if Johnson plays, Grimes will start.
Garrett Graham, TE12/19/2013 5:28:00 PM
Description: Texans TE Garrett Graham (hamstring) still has not returned to practice and interim coach Wade Phillips said the tight end is "about the same as last week." SOURCE: csnhouston.com
Insight: According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, Phillips said that "it's not looking good" for Graham's chances of playing in Week 16. Ryan Griffin will fill in again and can probably get you the same production as Graham with Matt Schaub returning to quarterback.
Garrett Graham, TE12/18/2013 9:33:00 PM
Description: Texans TE Garrett Graham (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday.
Insight: Graham is "iffy" for Week 16, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. Owen Daniels (leg) also has a chance to play, so there's no need to go into this weekend with Graham slotted in as your fantasy tight end.
Matt Schaub, QB12/18/2013 5:20:00 PM
Description: Texans quarterback Matt Schaub will return to the starting job in Week 16 against Denver.
Insight: Case Keenum has been abysmal over the last few weeks and he suffered a thumb injury in Week 15. Schaub should not be trusted in any fantasy leagues.
Dennis Johnson, RB12/18/2013 5:15:00 PM
Description: Dennis Johnson will start at running back for the Texans Sunday against Denver after Ben Tate (ribs) was placed on injured reserve. Tate has been playing through four broken ribs for the past seven games, but he suffered a fifth cracked rib in Week 15.
Insight: Johnson had 74 yards on 13 carries in Week 12 against the Jaguars and should be in line for a big workload with Tate out. However, with the Broncos likely to blow out the Texans, he'll have to do most of his work in the receiving game and should only be considered a flex play for that reason.
Case Keenum, QBCold12/18/2013 3:42:00 PM
Description: Texans quarterback Case Keenum won't play Sunday against the Broncos. He's battling a sprained thumb. SOURCE: Tania Ganguli, ESPN
Insight: Matt Schaub, who was booed off the field earlier this season, will get the start. It's been a miserable year for the Texans, a team most were expecting to compete for the AFC Championship. Sunday's loss to Indy was their 12th consecutive defeat.
Ben Tate, RB12/18/2013 3:36:00 PM
Description: The Texans have placed halfback Ben Tate on season-ending injured reserve.
Insight: Tate broke one of his ribs in Sunday's loss to Indianapolis. Dennis Johnson will start the rest of the season at running back. Tate led the team in rushing this year with 771 yards on 181 carries.
Garrett Graham, TE12/15/2013 12:25:00 PM
Description: Texans TE Garrett Graham (hamstring) is out Sunday against the Colts.
Insight: Graham missed practice all week. With Owen Daniels still out, the Texans are down to Ryan Griffin and Brad Smelley at tight end. Griffin is the better long-shot play seeing how he's actually been targeted this season.
Garrett Graham, TE12/14/2013 5:30:00 PM
Description: The Texans do not expect to have Garrett Graham (hamstring) Sunday against the Colts, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
Insight: Graham missed practice all week. He's listed as questionable but is closer to doubtful. With Owen Daniels still out, the Texans will be down to Ryan Griffin and Brad Smelley at tight end. Griffin is the better long-shot play seeing how he's actually been targeted this season.
Case Keenum, QB12/6/2013 1:51:00 PM
Description: Houston QB Case Keenum, benched for Matt Schaub in the third quarter Thursday night, will start for the Texans in Week 15.
Insight: Keenum completed 16-of-29 for 159 yards with one touchdown and one pick. After a hot start to his tenure as the starting QB, Keenum has thrown two touchdowns and four interceptions over his last four games. With 11 losses and the firing of Gary Kubiak, the final games should be an evaluation of the talent with an eye to the future and Keenum is expected to start in Week 15.
Matt Schaub, QB12/6/2013 9:34:00 AM
Description: Texans quarterback Matt Schaub was good in a relief role going 17-of-29 for 198 yards one TD and one INT.
Insight: Case Keenum's great start seems such a long time ago. He's done little to assure that he will start any more games over the remainder of the season. It wouldn't surprise anyone if coach Gary Kubiak opts for the veteran over the final three games as he tries to save his own job.
Case Keenum, QB12/5/2013 10:48:00 PM
Description: Houston QB Case Keenum was benched for Matt Schaub with the Texans trailing 24-10 to the Jaguars in the third quarter Thursday night.
Insight: Keenum completed 16-of-29 for 159 yards with one touchdown and one pick. After a hot start to his tenure as the starting QB, Keenum has thrown two touchdowns and four interceptions over his last four games. The Texans will likely take a QB in the first round of the 2014 draft.
Ben Tate, RB12/5/2013 8:16:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Ben Tate (ribs, ankle) is active for Thursday's game at Jacksonville.
Insight: Tate is coming off a 102-yard, three-TD performance Sunday against the Patriots and is a RB2 option this week.
