Oakland Raiders Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Mychal Rivera, TECold11/21/2014 9:18:00 AM
Description: Oakland tight end Mychal Rivera caught just one of four targets Thursday night for eight yards.
Insight: Rivera didn't catch a touchdown pass and that's been his bread and butter this season.
James Jones, WR11/21/2014 9:17:00 AM
Description: Raiders receiver James Jones hauled in five balls for 47 yards and a touchdown.
Insight: Jones ran a great pattern on the game-winning score, but overall he's had a tough year in his first year with the Raiders. Rookie quarterbacks will do that to his receivers.
Andre Holmes, WR11/21/2014 9:16:00 AM
Description: Raiders receiver Andre Holmes saw a team-high 10 targets, catching five, for 55 yards.
Insight: Quarterback Derek Carr was looking for him all night long, but he produced only mediocre totals.
Maurice Jones-Drew, RBCold11/21/2014 9:14:00 AM
Description: Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew rushed three times for minus one yards.
Insight: He's averaging 1.9 yards per carry. Why does MJD still have a job in the NFL?
Darren McFadden, RBCold11/21/2014 9:12:00 AM
Description: Raiders running back Darren McFadden rushed 12 times for 29 yards.
Insight: McFadden can't be counted on for any fantasy help and should never be used. Now that Latavius Murray has shown what he can do, McFadden abd Maurice Jones-Drew should be benchwarmers.
Latavius Murray, RBHot11/21/2014 9:10:00 AM
Description: Raiders second-year running back Latavius Murray finally got a chance to show his stuff and he performed beautifully, up until he was injured.
Insight: Murray rushed for 112 yards and two scores on just four carries, before suffering what appeared to be a concussion. Given how completely useless Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew have been so far this season, if Murray can get healthy he should be the guy from here on out.
Derek Carr, QBCold11/20/2014 7:19:00 PM
Description: Raiders rookie quarterback Derek Carr will start Thursday against the Chiefs.
Insight: Hopefully, fantasy owners aren't relying on Carr as he has struggled in his rookie season. But if there are owners who are, at least he is playing.
Latavius Murray, RB11/20/2014 3:40:00 PM
Description: Rumors out of Oakland are the Raiders second-year running back Latavius Murray could actually see significant time Thursday night.
Insight: Given how completely useless Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew have been so far this season, he couldn't do any worse and might do a lot better. Murray rushed four times for 43 yards last weekend.
Mychal Rivera, TE11/17/2014 10:22:00 AM
Description: Oakland tight end Mychal Rivera caught three of five targets for 40 yards.
Insight: Rivera didn't catch a touchdown pass for the first time in three games and like the rest of the Oakland offense he probably shouldn't be started by fantasy owners.
Darren McFadden, RBCold11/17/2014 10:20:00 AM
Description: Raiders running back Darren McFadden rushed a team-high eight times, but for just 21 yards.
Insight: McFadden can't be counted on for any fantasy help and should never be started.
Derek Carr, QBCold11/17/2014 10:20:00 AM
Description: Raiders rookie quarterback Derek Carr seemed overmatched against the Chargers defense.
Insight: Carr was 16-of-34 for 172 yards and couldn't mount a single touchdown drive. If you are going to use a rookie quarterback, you have to expect games like this. In truth, no Oakland Raiders players should be started in any fantasy league.
D.J. Hayden, CB11/10/2014 2:06:00 PM
Description: Oakland cornerback D.J. Hayden suffered a strained groin in Sunday's loss to Denver.
Insight: The oft-injured 2013 first-round pick is likely to miss Week 11 versus San Diego. With Carlos Rogers, TJ Carrie and Chimdi Chekwa also hurting it could be a big rebound game for Philip Rivers.
James Jones, WRCold11/10/2014 10:01:00 AM
Description: Raiders receiver James Jones caught eight of 12 targets, but for only 20 yards.
Insight: Considering one of his receptions went for 10 yards, that's an amazingly low total. Jones will be as up and down as his rookie quarterback and this weekend was another down game.
Mychal Rivera, TEHot11/10/2014 9:59:00 AM
Description: Oakland tight end Mychal Rivera was the only Raiders receiver to post double digit fantasy totals.
Insight: Rivera caught six of eight targets for 64 yards and a touchdown and seems to be gaining the confidence of quarterback Derek Carr. That's three touchdown catches in the last two games.
Derek Carr, QBCold11/10/2014 9:58:00 AM
Description: Raiders rookie quarterback Derek Carr threw the ball 47 times, yet accumulated just 192 yards on 30 completions.
Insight: Carr couldn't hold a candle to the "other" quarterback on the field. Starting rookie quarterbacks is rarely a pretty sight.
Darren McFadden, RBCold11/10/2014 9:56:00 AM
Description: Raiders running back Darren McFadden rushed a team-high seven times for 14 yards and caught four for 22 yards.
Insight: Not pretty, but once again he's getting the opportunities. Maurice Jones-Drew ran three times for 10 yards. Fantasy owners should avoid the backfield at all costs.
Andre Holmes, WRCold11/3/2014 9:43:00 AM
Description: Raiders receiver Andre Holmes caught two balls for 28 yards.
Insight: Holmes has been inconsistent, like his rookie quarterback. He can't be depended upon from week to week and should be avoided in the short term.
James Jones, WRCold11/3/2014 9:41:00 AM
Description: Raiders receiver James Jones caught three of five targets for 18 yards.
Insight: Jones will be as up and down as his rookie quarterback and this weekend was another down game.
Mychal Rivera, TE11/3/2014 9:38:00 AM
Description: Oakland tight end Mychal Rivera was the only Raiders receiver to post double digit fantasy totals.
Insight: Rivera caught two 1-yard touchdown passes among his team-high eight receptions. They were all short catches for just 38 yards.
Derek Carr, QB11/3/2014 9:37:00 AM
Description: Raiders rookie quarterback Derek Carr got off to an ugly start with a pair of early interceptions, but rebounded to throw a pair of touchdown passes against the defending Super Bowl champions.
Insight: Carr only threw for 194 yards, but this is what rookies do. They are inconsistent from week to week and quarter to quarter.
Darren McFadden, RBCold11/3/2014 9:35:00 AM
Description: Raiders running back Darren McFadden rushed 13 times for 20 yards and caught four for 47 yards.
Insight: Not pretty, but once again he's getting the opportunities. Maurice Jones-Drew ran two times for minus two yards. Unfortunately, he's still an emergency fill-in ... at best.
Andre Holmes, WR10/27/2014 10:35:00 AM
Description: Raiders receiver Andre Holmes caught five balls for 69 yards and a late garbage-time touchdown.
Insight: Holmes has been inconsistent, like his rookie quarterback, but a late touchdown counts as much as any other and his fantasy owners will take the double-digit production.
James Jones, WR10/27/2014 10:34:00 AM
Description: Raiders receiver James Jones was targeted a team-high 11 times.
Insight: Jones caught six for 62 yards. He's not been consistent this season, but with a rookie quarterback what did you expect?
Derek Carr, QB10/27/2014 10:33:00 AM
Description: For most of the game Raiders rookie quarterback Derek Carr's offense could only produce a couple of field goals.
Insight: But Carr kept throwing and a late touchdown pass and 54 attempts, many in garbage time, helped him produce decent fantasy totals - 328 yards and a touchdowns against two interceptions.
Darren McFadden, RB10/27/2014 10:31:00 AM
Description: Raiders running back Darren McFadden rushed 12 times for 59 yards and caught four for 26 yards.
Insight: Not pretty, but at least he's getting the opportunities. Maurice Jones-Drew ran six times for eight yards. He's an emergency fill-in ... at best.
James Jones, WR10/20/2014 10:22:00 AM
Description: Raiders receiver James Jones caught four of a team-leading eight targets for 35 yards.
Insight: Jones has scored double-digits in three of six weeks, but wasn't a big part of the game plan in this one.
Andre Holmes, WRCold10/20/2014 10:19:00 AM
Description: Typical of Raiders receiver Andre Holmes he followed up a big game by being the "Invisible Man."
Insight: Holmes had 121 yards and two score in Week 6, but just 34 yards on three catches in Week 7. He can't be trusted to produce on a consistent basis,
Maurice Jones-Drew, RBCold10/20/2014 10:18:00 AM
Description: Once again Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew was ignored.
Insight: MJD saw three carries for six yards and no targets. It's time to let go.
Darren McFadden, RB10/20/2014 10:17:00 AM
Description: Raiders running back Darren McFadden rushed 14 times for 48 yards.
Insight: Not pretty, but at least he's getting the opportunities. Maurice Jones-Drew was supposed to get a larger share of the rushing attempts, but that isn't happening. McFadden is the only fantasy option out of the Raider backfield.
Brice Butler, WR10/13/2014 6:27:00 PM
Description: Raiders receiving Brice Butler had three catches for 64 yards and a touchdown in Week 6 against the Chargers.
Insight: It was a coming out party for the Raiders' passing game. Butler was one of three Raiders receivers with at least 50 yards and a touchdown. Oakland will have to continue to throw to win a game this season, but Butler is still not a viable fantasy option.
James Jones, WR10/13/2014 11:19:00 AM
Description: Raiders receiver James Jones caught five of seven targets for 56 yards and a score.
Insight: The touchdown was on a perfectly thrown ball by Derek Carr that only Jones could catch. We'd like to see more of this. Jones is worth considering as a flex option.
Andre Holmes, WRHot10/13/2014 11:16:00 AM
Description: Raiders receiver Andre Holmes busted out with a four-catch, 121-yard, two touchdown effort.
Insight: The 6-4, 210-pound Holmes had 74 yards and a score in Week 4, so we like the direction he's headed. In his three seasons we haven't seen much consistency from Holmes, but we like the performance over the past two games. He worth watching.
Maurice Jones-Drew, RBCold10/13/2014 11:14:00 AM
Description: Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew (hand surgery) has been available to run, but hasn't gotten much work.
Insight: Sunday he saw four rushing attempts and ran for 30 yards. At this point he's not startable for fantasy owners.
Darren McFadden, RB10/13/2014 11:12:00 AM
Description: Raiders running back Darren McFadden rushed 14 times for 80 yards.
Insight: Maurice Jones-Drew was supposed to get a larger share of the rushing attempts, but that didn't happen. We still don't know what to make of the Raiders backfield and at this time don't recommend either back, but if you must then McFadden is the option.
Derek Carr, QB10/13/2014 11:10:00 AM
Description: Raiders rookie quarterback Derek Carr was very good against San Diego Sunday, doing everything except bring home a win.
Insight: Carr, who suffered a MCL sprain and high-ankle sprain three weeks ago, threw for 282 yards and four scores. The kid has talent and will only get better.
Derek Carr, QB10/12/2014 3:05:00 PM
Description: Raiders rookie quarterback Derek Carr is active for Week 6 against San Diego.
Insight: Carr suffered a MCL sprain and high-ankle sprain three weeks ago. Just because he's back on the field doesn't mean you should be playing him. The Chargers are 4-1 with a defense yielding a league-low 12.6 ppg.
Denarius Moore, WR10/8/2014 9:29:00 PM
Description: Raiders interim coach Tony Sparano said receiver Denarius Moore has a "clean slate" after he was scratched in the Raiders' last game according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Insight: Moore has had a brutal start to 2014 with 60 receiving yards and no touchdowns on 20 targets. Moore also dropped a pass that Vince Wilfork intercepted to seal a victory in Week 3. Even though he might play this week, Moore doesn't appear to be fantasy worthy.
Derek Carr, QB10/8/2014 8:12:00 PM
Description: Raiders quarterback Derek Carr practiced on Wednesday.
Insight: Carr suffered a MCL sprain and high-ankle sprain two weeks ago. He is supposedly on pace to start in Week 6. He still is only useful in two-quarterback leagues.
Matt Schaub, QB10/1/2014 8:36:00 PM
Description: Raiders quarterback Matt Schaub returned to the team on Wednesday.
Insight: He was absent from the team for two weaks while dealing with a family matter. Although Derek Carr thinks he will play, he is dealing with a high-ankle sprain, as well a sprained MCL. Those injuries take some time heal. As a result, Schaub could get his first start with the Raiders, coming off a bye in Week 6.
Derek Carr, QB9/28/2014 5:46:00 PM
Description: Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is unable to finish game.
Insight: He left the game with a sprained MCL and a high-anke sprain, and could very well miss some time. Carr finished the day with 146 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Matt McGloin took over and went 12-of-29 for 129 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
Maurice Jones-Drew, RB9/28/2014 12:05:00 PM
Description: Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew (hand surgery) is active for Week 4.
Insight: Neither Jones-Drew or Darren McFadden have proven that they can help a fantasy lineup, but McFadden will be the starter and has a better chance to produced than MJD.
Darren McFadden, RB9/26/2014 8:35:00 PM
Description: Raiders running back Darren McFadden is expected to start in Week 4 against the Dolphins according to ESPN.
Insight: Maurice Jones-Drew (hand) is ready to go, but McFadden apparently keeps the starting role because he received more practice time. Both running backs should see time along with Latavius Murray, so none of Raiders running backs should be used.
Rod Streater, WR9/24/2014 1:27:00 PM
Description: Oakland wideout Rod Streater suffered a foot injury and has left Sunday's game against the Patriots and latest rumors have him sidelined for 4-6 weeks.
Insight: The 26-year-old led the Raiders with 60 grabs and 888 yards last season, but is going to miss a big portion of the season with this injury. James Jones, Denarius Moore and Andre Holmes will divide up his targets.
Derek Carr, QBCold9/21/2014 11:18:00 PM
Description: Raiders quarterback Derek Carr looked like a rookie out there.
Insight: Oh that's right, he is. Carr went 21-of-34 for 174 yards and an interception. He couldn't get the ball into the end zone and settled for three Sebastian Janikowski field goals.
Darren McFadden, RB9/21/2014 11:15:00 PM
Description: Raiders running back Darren McFadden had the backfield all to himself for another weekend and still he couldn't come up with a fantasy-worthy total.
Insight: He rushed for 58 yards on 18 carries and caught four balls for six yards. It's time to give up on him as a viable fantasy asset.
Rod Streater, WR9/21/2014 1:52:00 PM
Description: Oakland wideout Rod Streater suffered a foot injury and has left Sunday's game angainst the Patriots.
Insight: The 26-year-old led the Raiders with 60 grabs and 888 yards last season, but is struggling to be a factor this season. His return is questionable.
Maurice Jones-Drew, RB9/21/2014 11:36:00 AM
Description: Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew (hand surgery) practiced Friday but is inactive for Sunday against New England
Insight: Neither Jones-Drew or Darren McFadden have proven that they can help a fantasy lineup, but McFadden without MJD could be an emergency starter.
Matt Schaub, QB9/20/2014 4:00:00 PM
Description: Raiders backup quarterback Matt Schaub will not be available in Week 3, according to Vic Tafur of sfgate.com
Insight: Schaub had made the trip to New England, but an unknown emergency came up. Matt McGloin will be Derek Carr's backup.
Maurice Jones-Drew, RB9/19/2014 3:59:00 PM
Description: Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew (hand surgery) practiced Friday and could make his return after missing last weekend's action.
Insight: Neither Jones-Drew or Darren McFadden have proven that they can help a fantasy lineup.
Darren McFadden, RB9/16/2014 12:42:00 PM
Description: Raiders running back Darren McFadden had the backfield all to himself in Week 2 with Maurice Jones-Drew sidelined and produced mediocre results.
Insight: He rushed for 37 yards and a score and caught two balls for 31 yards. The tailback posted double-digit fantasy points (12) for the first time since Oct, 27 last season and just his third time in the last 14 games he's played dating back to 2012. It's likely MJD will reutrn rendering both useless in fantasy leagues.
Derek Carr, QB9/16/2014 12:40:00 PM
Description: Raiders quarterback Derek Carr produced better fantasy numbers in Week 2 leading Oakland to twice as many points as in Week 1, but not a victory.
Insight: Carr threw for 263 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 58 yards, but was picked off twice. We think he has a future as an NFL quarterback and a fantasy quarterback, though it may not manifest itself for owners this season.
Rod Streater, WR9/15/2014 2:37:00 PM
Description: Oakland wideout Rod Streater suffered a hip flexor in Sunday's game.
Insight: The 26-year-old led the Raiders with 60 grabs and 888 yards last season, but even before the injury was falling behind James Jones. He had just 10 targets in two games while Jones saw 17 and Denarius Moore 13.
James Jones, WR9/14/2014 8:08:00 PM
Description: Raiders' newly-acquired receiver James Jones was the only Oakland receiver to show up Sunday.
Insight: He caught nine of 14 targets for 112 yards and a touchdown. Going forward he should be the only receiver in fantasy lineups.
Darren McFadden, RB9/14/2014 8:05:00 PM
Description: Raiders running back Darren McFadden rewarded those fantasy owners brave enough to start him after Maurice Jones-Drew was declared inactive.
Insight: The tailback posted double-digit fantasy points for the first time since Oct, 27 last season and just his third time in the last 14 games he's played dating back to 2012.
Maurice Jones-Drew, RB9/14/2014 3:25:00 PM
Description: Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew (hand surgery) did not practice this week and as expected is inactive for Sunday.
Insight: Oakland will use Darren McFadden and Latavius Murray. You might also see a little bit more of fullback Marcel Reece.
Maurice Jones-Drew, RB9/11/2014 11:55:00 PM
Description: Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew (hand surgery) did not practice on Thursday and CSN Bay area is reporting he will miss Week 2's game against Houston
Insight: Oakland has not released many details on Jones-Drew's injury, but it appears Darren McFadden will get the start on Sunday.
Maurice Jones-Drew, RB9/11/2014 3:58:00 PM
Description: Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew (hand surgery) did not practice on Thursday.
Insight: Oakland has not released many details on Jones-Drew's injury, but it appears Darren McFadden will get the start on Sunday.
Matt Schaub, QBCold9/3/2014 1:36:00 PM
Description: Raiders quarterback Matt Schaub said he was surprised and disappointed when rookie Derek Carr was announced as Oakland's starter for Week 1.
Insight: Derek Carr's great preseason had made him the front-runner for the starting job. Fantasy owners should still consider holding onto Schaub as there is no guarantee that Carr will keep the position. Playing well in preseason against vanilla defenses doesn't always translate to regular season success.
Derek Carr, QBHot9/1/2014 6:20:00 PM
Description: According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, Raiders players have been informed that the team will start Derek Carr at quarterback in Week 1.
Insight: Schaub was horrible in the preseason and is dealing with elbow soreness. Carr, a rookie second-rounder, is simply a better option than Schaub at this point and should improve the fantasy value of Oakland's skill position players.
Matt Schaub, QB8/29/2014 8:13:00 PM
Description: Raiders head coach Dennis Allen is waiting for a Matt Schaub injury update before naming his Week 1 quarterback starter according to Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune.
Insight: Schaub has a very minor elbow injury, but Derek Carr's great preseason has made him the front-runner for the starting job. We expect Carr to get the nod.
Matt Schaub, QB8/29/2014 9:28:00 AM
Description: Raiders quarterback Matt Schaub has been dealing with elbow soreness and a solid run by rookie Derek Carr has put put Schaub's Week 1 start in jeopardy.
Insight: Schaub has completed just 24-of-47 (51.1%) for 218 yards (4.6 ypa) with zero touchdowns and one interception this season. At this point I'd rather my fantasy roster had Carr over Schaub.
Derek Carr, QBHot8/29/2014 9:22:00 AM
Description: Raiders rookie quarterback Derek Carr will start Week 1, according to ESPN Raiders reporter Bill Williamson.
Insight: Carr looked good again Thursday night and has forced Coach Dennins Allen into a tough decision. Neither is a fantasy worthy starter, but Carr has more upside. Carr hit Denarius Moore twice for a touchdown against Seattle.
Andre Holmes, WR8/24/2014 9:06:00 PM
Description: According to NFL.com, Raiders receiver Andre Holmes "looks buried" on the depth chart.
Insight: The 6-4, 210-pound Holmes had 366 receiving yards and a touchdown in the last five games last season and he was listed atop the Raiders' first depth chart of the preseason along with Rod Streater. However, he was demoted in the second preseason game and was the No. 5 receiver in Friday's game. Streater and James Jones are the best fantasy bets among Oakland's wideouts, but with Matt Schaub looking horrible this preseason there's not much reason to get excited.
Matt Schaub, QB8/24/2014 9:02:00 PM
Description: Raiders quarterback Matt Schaub is dealing with elbow soreness, according to Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune.
Insight: Schaub has completed just 24-of-47 (51.1%) for 218 yards (4.6 ypa) with zero touchdowns and one interception this season. He's looked as bad as his numbers suggest he's been. It won't be long before Derek Carr is starting for Oakland.
Maurice Jones-Drew, RB8/23/2014 12:05:00 PM
Description: Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew broke off a 40-yard touchdown during Friday's preseason game at Green Bay.
Insight: Jones-Drew rushed for 3.4 yards per carry with the Jaguars last season, but he did still have five gains of at least 20 yards and two of 40 or more. With Darren McFadden's health always in question, MJD could turn into an RB2 this season.
Derek Carr, QB8/16/2014 3:41:00 PM
Description: Raiders rookie quarterback Derek Carr suffered a concussion during Friday's preseason game, according to Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Insight: Carr has completed 19-of-32 for 183 yards, a touchdown and an interception in two preseason games while Matt Schaub has gone 11-of-20 for 108 yards and a pick, but Schaub is still expected to begin the season as Oakland's starter.
Denarius Moore, WR8/8/2014 7:35:00 PM
Description: Raiders receiver Denarius Moore might not make the 53-man roster, according to ESPN.com.
Insight: Moore is behind Andre Holmes, Rod Streater, James Jones and Greg Little on the depth chart. The 25-year-old has shown flashes that he can be a top target, but he's battled injuries and inconsistency. There's no need to draft him in fantasy leagues.
Andre Holmes, WR8/6/2014 8:04:00 PM
Description: According to the Associated Press, Oakland Raiders receiver Andre Holmes has been Matt Schaub's most consistent downfield threat since the team began practicing.
Insight: The 6-4, 210-pound Holmes had 366 receiving yards and a touchdown in the last five games last season and he was listed atop the Raiders' first depth chart of the preseason along with Rod Streater. Streater, who is 6-3, had 888 yards on 60 catches last season and the Raiders also signed James Jones in the offseason, so Holmes isn't a lock to be Schaub's No. 1 target. We'll have to see how this situation plays out in the preseason.
Andre Holmes, WR8/4/2014 7:47:00 PM
Description: On the Raiders first official depth chart, the team lists Rod Streater and Andre Holmes as the starting wide receivers, according to Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Insight: However, Tafur indicated that the depth chart is far from settled. Streater, Holmes, James Jones, Greg Little and Denarius Moore have been rotating and the team can only list two players as starters. The 6-4, 210-pound Holmes had 366 receiving yards and a touchdown in the last five games last season, but he'll likely end up behind Jones and Streater on the depth chart.
Maurice Jones-Drew, RB8/4/2014 11:35:00 AM
Description: Raiders OC Greg Olson made it sound as if Maurice Jones-Drew could be the lead back in the battle with Darren McFadden, according to an Oakland Tribune report.
Insight: Assuming they are both healthy, which hasn't been the case for either runner lately, the title of "starter" likely isn't going to be a big deal in this shared situation. Still, you would rather draft the guy on the field first.
Rod Streater, WR8/1/2014 11:21:00 AM
Description: Oakland wideout Rod Streater (concussion) returned to practice Thursday.
Insight: The 26-year-old led the Raiders with 60 grabs and 888 yards last season and will compete with Denarius Moore for the spot opposite James Jones. Having veteran Matt Schaub at QB could help the entire receiving group, including Streater.
Maurice Jones-Drew, RB8/1/2014 11:16:00 AM
Description: Maurice Jones-Drew and Darren McFadden are competing for the starting job in Oakland, but according to a San Jose Mercury News report and most experts both backs will see plenty of work.
Insight: Assuming they are both healthy, which hasn't been the case for either runner lately, the title of "starter" isn't going to be a big deal is this shared situation.
Darren McFadden, RB7/30/2014 6:25:00 PM
Description: According to mmqb.si.com, Raiders running back Darren McFadden has the starting edge over Maurice Jones-Drew but McFadden's injury history should make it a committee backfield.
Insight: McFadden has missed 29 games in his six NFL seasons and never played more than 13 in any year, but the bigger concern might be his play when he's been healthy. He's rushed for 3.3 ypc and averaged 6.2 yards per catch in two seasons under coach Dennis Allen and OC Greg Olson. MJD should get a chance to start at some point, though he too struggled last year (3.4 ypc).
Rod Streater, WR7/28/2014 9:23:00 PM
Description: Oakland wideout Rod Streater suffered a concussion during Monday's practice, according to Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Insight: Streater also sustained a concussion during the preseason last year. The 26-year-old led the Raiders with 60 grabs and 888 yards last season and could break out in his third year now that Oakland has some stability at quarterback.
Latavius Murray, RB6/19/2014 10:01:00 PM
Description: Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olson said the team is "looking for big things" from second-year running back Latavius Murray, according to csnbayarea.com.
Insight: "He’s shown, to me, the biggest upside right now in what we’ve seen thus far, if he can stay healthy," Olson said. The 6-foot-3, 223-pound Murray, who ran a 40-yard dash of 4.38 seconds, missed his rookie year with an ankle injury. He's behind Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew on the depth chart but could get a shot later this season and is someone to watch in dynasty leagues.
Derek Carr, QB6/8/2014 3:38:00 PM
Description: Second-round draft pick Derek Carr will have a chance to compete for the Raiders' starting quarterback job this season. SOURCE: Albert Breer, NFL.com
Insight: Matt Schaub, acquired from Houston in a trade this offseason, is the current No. 1 on Oakland's QB depth chart. However, Carr was excellent in his final year at Fresno State (50 TD, 8 INT, 5,082 passing yards) and should challenge Schaub every step of the way. This situation may not be resolved until deep into training camp.
James Jones, WR6/3/2014 2:46:00 PM
Description: Former Green Bay Packers receiver James Jones should have the No. 1 wideout spot locked up in Oakland, but a big question to be answered in Raiders' camp will be who starts across from him?
Insight: Denarius Moore, Rod Streater, Andre Holmes and Greg Little will compete for the job. We like Moore if he can stay healthy with Streater as the primary backup.
Maurice Jones-Drew, RB6/3/2014 2:36:00 PM
Description: Maurice Jones-Drew and Darren McFadden will compete for the starting job in Oakland, though both backs should see a reliable workload.
Insight: Of course that's until one of the two injury-prone backs goes down with the inevitable injury. The key question, therefore, is which one will get hurt first?
Greg Little, WR5/19/2014 8:30:00 PM
Description: The Raiders claimed Greg Little off waivers from the Browns, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Insight: Little was cut by Cleveland even though Josh Gordon is facing suspension. The 24-year-old has good size and speed but has never displayed reliable hands in his three NFL seasons. He won't make a fantasy impact with the Raiders or any other franchise.
Derek Carr, QB5/9/2014 7:28:00 PM
Description: With the 36th-overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders selected QB Derek Carr out of Fresno State.
Insight: His brother David went No. 1 overall to the Houston Texans in 2002. Carr, who is athletic and has a big arm, will likely open the season as a backup to Matt Schaub.
Terrelle Pryor, QB4/20/2014 4:33:00 PM
Description: The Raiders are prepared to waive quarterback Terrelle Pryor on Monday if they can't work out a trade in the next 24 hours. SOURCE: Alex Marvez, Fox Sports 1
Insight: Pryor became expendable when the team traded for Matt Schaub this offseason. Pryor is an elite runner (his 576 rushing yards led all quarterbacks last season) but has struggled passing the ball in his two seasons with Oakland (69.3 QB rating, 56.3 completion percentage in 14 games).
Maurice Jones-Drew, RB3/29/2014 9:17:00 AM
Description: Maurice Jones-Drew has agreed to a three-year contract with Oakland. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: The Raiders' backfield tandem of Jones-Drew and Darren McFadden figures to be close to a 50/50 split. That won't help either one's fantasy value heading into 2014.
Terrelle Pryor, QB3/24/2014 9:35:00 PM
Description: Quarterback Terrelle Pryor wants out of Oakland. SOURCE: Tim Kawakami, Mercury News
Insight: He asked the team for a trade earlier this offseason. All Pryor wants is a starting job in the NFL. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen in Oakland after the Raiders acquired Matt Schaub in a trade with Houston late last week.
Matt Schaub, QB3/21/2014 9:56:00 AM
Description: The Raiders have acquired QB Matt Schaub from the Texans for a sixth-round pick in the 2014 draft, according to ESPN's Adam Schafter.
Insight: Schaub immediately becomes Oakland's No. 1 quarterback option with Terrelle Pryor as his main backup. His receivers are nothing special and it's unlikely Schaub will be coveted on fantasy draft day after his lousy 2013 campaign (14 INT, 73.0 QB rating in ten appearances).
Charles Woodson, CB3/20/2014 5:43:00 PM
Description: Oakland re-signed safety Charles Woodson on Thursday. SOURCE: Josina Anderson, ESPN
Insight: It's a one-year deal. Woodson totaled 97 tackles, two sacks and one interception last season. He'll turn 38 in October.
James Jones, WR3/17/2014 7:12:00 PM
Description: Former Green Bay Packers receiver James Jones has signed a three-year contract with the Oakland Raiders.
Insight: Jones led the NFL with 14 touchdown grabs in 2012 but dropped to three in 2013. He finished with a career-high 817 yards on 59 receptions in 14 games. He'll go from having one of the top QBs in the NFL to a team that currently has no starting quarterback, but he also will have far less competition for targets on the Raiders.
Darren McFadden, RB3/11/2014 5:44:00 PM
Description: Darren McFadden's new deal with Oakland is a one-year, $4 million contract. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Rashad Jennings signed with the Jets earlier today, which will only help McFadden's fantasy value. McFadden's lone 1,000-yard season came in 2010 when he rushed 223 times for 1,157 yards. As most fantasy owners already know, McFadden has never played an entire 16-game season.
Darren McFadden, RB3/11/2014 4:20:00 PM
Description: Fallon Smith of CSN Bay Area says free agent running back Darren McFadden will return to the Oakland Raiders.
Insight: The Raiders were thought to be more interested in keeping Rashad Jennings than McFadden, but perhaps not.
Darren McFadden, RB3/6/2014 6:59:00 PM
Description: ESPN's John Clayton suggested Miami as a possible suitor for free agent running back Darren McFadden.
Insight: Starter Lamar Miller was a relative disappointment for the Dolphins last season, rushing 177 times for 709 yards in 16 games. It might be hard for McFadden, who is also being pursued by the Bengals, to find more than a one-year deal given his recent injury history.
Nnamdi Asomugha, CB12/26/2013 9:21:00 PM
Description: Three-time Pro Bowler Nnamdi Asomugha will announce his retirement on Friday. SOURCE: Scott Blair, Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area
Insight: He'll sign a one-day contract with Oakland so he can retire with the team he began his career with in 2003. Asomugha logged two tackles in three games for the 49ers before getting cut last month. In his prime, the Cal-Berkeley alum was considered one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL.
Terrelle Pryor, QB12/23/2013 4:22:00 PM
Description: The Raiders will go with Terrelle Pryor under center Sunday in the season finale. SOURCE: Scott Bair, Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area
Insight: He'll get the start against Denver. Pryor has struggled to throw the ball this season (66.0 QB rating, 57.7 completion percentage) but his 527 rushing yards ranks second among quarterbacks. With Pryor starting, Penn State alum Matt McGloin will head to the bench.
Matt McGloin, QB12/16/2013 9:30:00 AM
Description: Oakland coach Dennis Allen said Matt McGloin will be his starting quarterback next week against San Diego.
Insight: McGloin was not good against Kansas City throwing four interceptions, but did accumulate 297 yards and two touchdown passes. It speaks volumes about the future of Terrelle Pryor in Oakland.
Denarius Moore, WR12/15/2013 3:02:00 PM
Description: Raiders receiver Denarius Moore (shoulder) practiced this week and is active for Sunday's game with Kansas City.
Insight: Moore missed the last three games, allowing Rod Streater and Andre Holmes to step in as top targets for Matt McGloin. Moore's return will make Oakland's receiver situation too unpredictable to bother with in Week 15.
Denarius Moore, WR12/11/2013 3:08:00 PM
Description: Raiders receiver Denarius Moore (shoulder) practiced Wednesday.
Insight: Moore missed the last three games, allowing Rod Streater and Andre Holmes to step in as top targets for Matt McGloin. Moore's return will make Oakland's receiver situation too unpredictable to bother with in Week 15.
Rashad Jennings, RB12/10/2013 8:16:00 PM
Description: Raiders halfback Rashad Jennings won't be limited Sunday against Kansas City. SOURCE: Comcast Bay Area
Insight: Jennings is going to see his usual workload, which means he'll be a solid flex/RB2 option for fantasy owners in Week 15. He missed Sunday's game because of a concussion but was given medical clearance to return earlier this week.
Rashad Jennings, RB12/9/2013 7:13:00 PM
Description: According to Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle, Oakland running back Rashad Jennings has passed his concussion tests.
Insight: Jennings proved to be a strong RB2 in place of the injured Darren McFadden from Weeks 9-13, but he suffered a concussion on Thanksgiving and missed Sunday's game against the Jets. Marcel Reece filled in and had 161 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown, but he'll return to fullback with Jennings back in the lineup. While Oakland's Week 15 matchup against the Chiefs has blowout potential, Jennings will be a RB2.
Marcel Reece, FB12/8/2013 7:16:00 PM
Description: Oakland fullback Marcel Reece had a productive day Sunday against the Jets.
Insight: The 255-pounder finished with 123 yards on 19 carries. He also came away with 38 receiving yards on two catches. Reece had only carried the ball 22 times all season prior to Sunday. He'll face a tough Kansas City team in Week 15.
Marcel Reece, FB12/8/2013 12:01:00 PM
Description: Raiders fullback Marcel Reece is the only healthy back in the Oakland backfield and should be a viable fantasy option.
Insight: Darren McFadden, Rashad Jennings and Jeremy Stewart are all inactive for Week 14 against the Jets.
Rashad Jennings, RB12/8/2013 11:28:00 AM
Description: Oakland running back Rashad Jennings has officially been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jets. SOURCE: Raiders on Twitter
Insight: Jennings wasn't able to pass concussion protocol after leaving last week's game in the fourth quarter. With Darren McFadden also out, fullback Marcel Reece will have to anchor the Raiders' ground game. With snow in the forecast, Sunday's game at Metlife Stadium could be a low-scoring affair.
Rashad Jennings, RB12/6/2013 6:24:00 PM
Description: Raiders running back Rashad Jennings (concussion) hasn't received clearance to play in Week 14, according to Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Insight: Jennings still has to pass his final concussion tests. He has been able to practice this week after passing initial tests, so he should be able to play Sunday against the Jets.
Denarius Moore, WR12/6/2013 2:49:00 PM
Description: Raiders receiver Denarius Moore (shoulder) missed all three practices this week and isn't likely to be ready for Sunday's game with the Jets.
Insight: Moore missed the last two games. "He's getting better but not ready yet," coach Dennis Allen said, according to Fallon Smith of CSN Bay Area. Andre Holmes could be worth a play.
Rashad Jennings, RB12/6/2013 2:46:00 PM
Description: Raiders running back Rashad Jennings (concussion) practiced for a third straight day friday and has been upgraded to probable for Sunday's game against the Jets.
Insight: Barring any late changes he looks ready for Sunday's game against the Jets. He'll only be a solid RB2 as the Jets own the league's best run defense (77 ypg).
Rashad Jennings, RB12/5/2013 5:57:00 PM
Description: Raiders running back Rashad Jennings (concussion) practiced for the second straight day Thursday, according to Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Insight: Jennings was limited in practice and still has to pass some tests before he's fully cleared for Sunday's game against the Jets. If he plays, he'll be a solid RB2 despite the tough matchup.
Tyvon Branch, SS12/5/2013 11:46:00 AM
Description: Raiders strong safety Tyvon Branch (broken leg) returned to practice Wednesday.
Insight: Branch might be the best defensive player the Raiders so his return would be a big boost to the Oakland secondary. They face Geno Smith and the Jets so he might not be pushed into the starting lineup with just a couple of days of practice.
Denarius Moore, WR12/4/2013 4:49:00 PM
Description: Raiders receiver Denarius Moore (shoulder) missed Wednesday's practice.
Insight: Moore missed the last two games with a shoulder injury and is not expected to play Sunday at New York. "He's getting better but not ready yet," coach Dennis Allen said, according to Fallon Smith of CSN Bay Area.
Darren McFadden, RB12/4/2013 4:47:00 PM
Description: Raiders running back Darren McFadden missed Wednesday's practice due to an ankle injury, according to Fallon Smith of CSN Bay Area.
Insight: McFadden just returned from a hamstring injury last Thursday at Dallas, but he's already dealing with another issue. He's firmly behind Rashad Jennings on the depth chart and is not a fantasy option even if he plays in Week 14 against the Jets.
Rashad Jennings, RB12/4/2013 4:43:00 PM
Description: Raiders running back Rashad Jennings (concussion) practiced Wednesday, according to Scott Bair of csnbayarea.com.
Insight: Jennings had 35 yards on 17 carries Thursday at Dallas but also punched in two touchdowns. He should be able to play Sunday against the Jets and is a solid RB2 even with the tough matchup.
Matt McGloin, QB11/29/2013 5:40:00 PM
Description: Oakland coach Dennis Allen says he's "inclined" to use Matt McGloin as his starting quarterback next week against the Jets. SOURCE: Steve Corkran, Contra Costa Times
Insight: McGloin struggled in Thursday's loss to Dallas. The rookie from Penn State has had his ups and downs this season but so has Terrelle Pryor (69.0 QB rating in eight appearances). Halfback Rashad Jennings will continue to be the focal point of the offense regardless of who gets the start at quarterback.
Rashad Jennings, RB11/29/2013 9:52:00 AM
Description: Raiders running back Rashad Jennings may have suffered a concussion late in the fourth quarter against Dallas.
Insight: Jennings couldn't generate much yardage, but scored twice to save the day for his fantasy owners. He'll have additional time to recover before Oakland's next game on Dec 8. Jennings has recorded five consecutive double-digit games and taken the starting spot away from Darren McFadden.
Darren McFadden, RB11/28/2013 3:32:00 PM
Description: Raiders running back Darren McFadden (hamstring) will play Thursday at Dallas.
Insight: McFadden will back up Rashad Jennings in his return to the lineup after missing three straight games. He should not be used in fantasy leagues with all 32 teams active this week.
Mychal Rivera, TE11/28/2013 3:29:00 PM
Description: Oakland Raiders tight end Mychal Rivera (concussion) is active Thursday against the Cowboys.
Insight: Rivera suffered a concussion on a helmet-to-helmet hit from Titans safety Michael Griffin just four days ago, but he's ready to go. He had five catches for 54 yards and a touchdown two weeks ago at Houston and will be Matt McGloin's No. 2 target Thursday.
Denarius Moore, WR11/27/2013 4:55:00 PM
Description: Raiders receiver Denarius Moore (shoulder) has been ruled out for Thursday's Thanksgiving Day game at Dallas.
Insight: Moore missed Sunday's game against the Titans, allowing Rod Streater to step into the No. 1 receiver role. Streater saw nine targets and caught five of them for 93 yards against Tennessee and is a WR3 option at Dallas.
Darren McFadden, RB11/27/2013 10:09:00 AM
Description: Darren McFadden's days of leading the Oakland running attack appear to be over. SOURCE: Contra Costa Times
Insight: If McFadden (hamstring) does suit up Thursday against the Cowboys, he won't be used as the starter. Rashad Jennings, a relative unknown before the season started, has emerged as a top-ten fantasy running back. With free agency looming, the injury-prone McFadden may not be a Raider for much longer.
Rashad Jennings, RBHot11/26/2013 5:18:00 PM
Description: Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olson said the team plans to stick with the "hot hand" at running back, which means Rashad Jennings will continue to start even though Darren McFadden (hamstring) is ready to return. SOURCE: Steve Corkran, Contra Costa Times
Insight: Jennings has produced 583 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns on 88 touches the last four games. While McFadden will cut into his touches, Jennings is still a RB2 Thanksgiving Day at Dallas.
Darren McFadden, RB11/26/2013 11:09:00 AM
Description: Raiders running back Darren McFadden practiced Monday and could be ready to go Thursday in Dallas.
Insight: With Rashad Jennings playing some of the best football of his career right now, there's no guarantee McFadden sees enough work to be of value to fantasy owners.
Denarius Moore, WR11/26/2013 11:05:00 AM
Description: Raiders receiver Denarius Moore (shoulder) missed Sunday's game and wasn't part of Monday's practice.
Insight: He's closer to doubtful than questionable for Thursday's game in Dallas. If Moore can't go, Rod Streater will again be the only fantasy-worthy receiving option for the Raiders.
Darren McFadden, RB11/23/2013 6:01:00 PM
Description: Raiders running back Darren McFadden will be out again Sunday against Tennessee.
Insight: He's been working his way back from a hamstring injury but as usual with McFadden, the recovery process has taken all kinds of twists and turns. With Rashad Jennings playing some of the best football of his career right now, there's no guarantee McFadden would get the starting job back anyway. It's too early for fantasy owners to cut the chord completely but that doesn't mean they should expect a speedy recovery.
Denarius Moore, WR11/22/2013 4:48:00 PM
Description: Raiders receiver Denarius Moore (shoulder) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Tennessee, according to Scott Bair of csnbayarea.com.
Insight: Moore missed another practice Friday with a shoulder injury. Rod Streater will be QB Matt McGloin's No. 1 target on the outside, but tight end Mychal Rivera also should see increased targets and is a sleeper TE1.
