Miami-Ohio fires Treadwell, Bath named interim coach
Oxford, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Miami-Ohio has fired head coach Don Treadwell and named Mike Bath as interim coach.
The RedHawks were off to an 0-5 start this season, including a 21-9 setback to Central Michigan in their Mid-American Conference opener on Saturday. They have been outscored 178-44 and have yet to score more than 14 points in a game this season.
"I have decided to make a change in our football leadership now in hopes of seeing improved performance for the rest of the season," said Miami-Ohio athletic director David Sayler. "Miami University takes the interest of our student-athletes seriously and this decision is the result of the past nine months since I've been on the job."
Treadwell was in his third year and had a mark of 8-21. The RedHawks were 4-8 in each of Treadwell's two full seasons.
"Don is a great man, nobody can disagree with that, but I felt a change was needed immediately in the direction of the program," Sayler added. "That direction involves making our program relevant again and restoring pride that should accompany being the all-time winningest program in the MAC."
Treadwell had been Michigan State's offensive coordinator before taking over a RedHawks program that won the MAC title under Michael Haywood in 2010.
Bath, a quarterback with the RedHawks from 1998-2000, is in his sixth season as a Miami-Ohio coach. He had been serving as the quarterbacks/wide receivers coach since 2011 and previously was tight ends coach from 2006-08 before taking a position as offensive coordinator at Ashland University for two years.
