Final Score: Edmonton 4, Pittsburgh 3 (OT)
Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored the winner just 61 seconds into overtime as the Edmonton Oilers rallied for a 4-3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday.
Skating on the power play after Brandon Sutter was called for slashing, the Oilers won the game after a bad clear was kept in at the right point.
Justin Schultz had the puck at the left point and sent it down low for Jordan Eberle, who sent it over to the right where Nugent-Hopkins one-timed it in off goaltender Jeff Zatkoff.
"A really nice pass from Eberle, backdoor and he left me with a lot of net to work with," Nugent-Hopkins said.
Nugent-Hopkins finished the game with two goals and an assist while Anton Belov and Taylor Hall also scored for the Oilers, who have won two of three. Devan Dubnyk made 25 saves in the win.
James Neal, Kris Letang and Sidney Crosby all scored for the Penguins, who had won five of six coming in. Zatkoff finished the game with 27 stops.
"We have to find a way to close the game out. To give up a two-goal lead, get the lead back and give it up again -- you don't deserve to win if you play like that," Crosby said.
After a scoreless first period, the Penguins got on the board at 2:09 of the second period as Neal's one-timer from the low left side found the right corner of the net.
It was a 2-0 game less than six minutes later as Crosby tired to pass the puck to the left, but it went off an Oiler and snuck past Dubnyk.
The Oilers made it a one-goal game with a power-play goal just 53 seconds into the third as Nugent-Hopkins' wrister from the right circle with traffic in front beat Zatkoff.
Edmonton then tied the game at 10:07 of the period as Hall slung in a loose puck after Nugent-Hopkins' pass was broken up.
Pittsburgh took the lead back at 12:16 with a power-play goal as a left circle faceoff win saw Letang take the puck and wrist it in from the high slot, but Belov scored for nearly the same spot with 1:59 to play to send the game to overtime.
Zatkoff had a seven-game winning streak stopped ... Crosby has five goals and 12 assists during a seven-game point streak. His goal against Edmonton was his first ever against the team, and he has failed to score a goal against only St. Louis, Chicago, and San Jose ... Edmonton hits the road for the next four games starting in Chicago on Sunday ... Pittsburgh plays in Calgary on Saturday.
