Description: Ravens backup running back Bernard Pierce (offseason surgery on his rotator cuff) should be the team's starter for the first two games of the season.
Insight: Assuming he can stay healthy, Pierce will get a chance to be the lead ballcarrier and prove he deserves a larger role even when Rice returns from his two-game suspension.

7/22/2014 10:11:00 PM
Description: According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, Ravens running back Bernard Pierce has been medically cleared. He underwent offseason surgery on his rotator cuff.
Insight: Ray Rice is expected to be suspended for multiple games at the start of the season, so Pierce will get a chance to be the lead ballcarrier and prove he deserves a larger role when Rice returns. The Ravens had a league-worst 3.1 ypc average in 2013. They'll try to revive the running game under new offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak.

6/23/2014 1:50:00 PM
Description: The Baltimore Sun says Ravens backup running back Bernard Pierce (rotator cuff surgery) is the favorite to be the opening day starter.
Insight: The Ravens' running game is a mess. Pierce is coming off shoulder surgery, Ray Rice is expected to receive a multi-game suspension and rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro is dealing with legal issues of his own. Justin Forsett is also in the mix.

1/29/2014 10:13:00 PM
Description: Ravens backup running back Bernard Pierce had surgery to repair his rotator cuff Wednesday and will be sidelined 4-5 months.
Insight: The Ravens running game struggled across the board in 2013, and Pierce rushed for just 2.9 yards per carry and two touchdowns on 152 attempts.

10/10/2013 6:07:00 PM
Description: Ravens backup running back Bernard Pierce (thigh) was limited in practice Thursday but he's expected to play Sunday against the Packers.
Insight: Pierce had 46 yards on 11 carries while Ray Rice saw 33 touches in Week 5 against the Dolphins. Fantasy owners should hold him in case Rice suffers another injury but he shouldn't be started.

9/22/2013 5:59:00 PM
Description: Ravens backup running back Bernard Pierce carried the football 24 times for 65 yards and a touchdown in Week 3 against Houston.
Insight: Starting in place of the injured Ray Rice, Pierce didn't do much yardage-wise but salvaged the game with a touchdown in the third quarter. Rice is expected to miss Week 4 at Buffalo, which should be a much better matchup for Pierce.

9/22/2013 12:16:00 PM
Description: Ravens' backup running back Bernard Pierce will take over all the rushing durites with Ray Rice sidelined by a hip injury.
Insight: The only bad news for Pierce is that Baltimore faces a pretty good Houston defense, though they haven't shown it in the first two games. Pierce is a must start.

9/17/2013 12:20:00 PM
Description: Ravens' backup running back Bernard Pierce could end up being the starter if Ray Rice's hip injury doesn't improve.
Insight: Even if Rice does get on the field Sunday against Houston, it's likely that the two running backs would share the rushing workload more evenly to help protect the starter's health.

9/13/2013 3:30:00 PM
Description: Ravens' backup running back Bernard Pierce had a thigh wrapped after the game, but should be ready for Week 2.
Insight: Ray Rice owners were probably hoping they would have their guy go in alone, but it apparently won't happen. The Ravens' running game should get more work this week than against Denver in Week 1 where they fell way behind on the scoreboard.

8/9/2013 11:59:00 AM
Description: Ravens backup running back Bernard Pierce had a knee wrapped after the game, but we haven't heard of any major problems.
Insight: Pierce is expected to be a much bigger part of the Baltimore offense this season including a set with the team using him in the backfield and Ray Rice split out as a receiver. We await further word.

6/26/2013 6:13:00 PM
Description: Ravens halfback Bernard Pierce was involved in a scary incident this weekend in Philadelphia but it appears that he was able to escape without any injuries. SOURCE: CBS Philadelphia
Insight: Pierce was robbed at gunpoint and also had his car stolen. The car has been recovered and it looks like Pierce was able to walk away injury-free. He'll be a nice handcuff for Ray Rice owners this season.

1/18/2013 10:08:00 AM
Description: Baltimore backup running back Bernard Pierce is questionable for the AFC Championship on Sunday against New England after injuring his knee in the game against Denver.
Insight: Pierce was limited in Wednesday's practice and didn't practice on Thursday. Though he guaranteed he would play, the injury is likely to limit his playing time and we don't expect a productive day out of him.

1/14/2013 10:15:00 AM
Description: Baltimore backup running back Bernard Pierce is questionable for the AFC Championship on Sunday against New England due to a knee injury suffered in the win over Denver.
Insight: Pierce ran well against Indianapolis in the first round of the playoffs, getting 13 carries for 103 yards, but rushed just five times in Denver before being sidelined by the injury. Add fantasy value to Ray Rice if Pierce's situation doesn't improve.

1/11/2013 11:58:00 AM
Description: Baltimore backup running back Bernard Pierce who has been dealing with an ankle injury was back on the field for Thursday (limited) after missing Wednesday's practice.
Insight: Pierce ran well against Indianapolis in the first round of the playoffs, getting 13 carries for 103 yards. That's above his normal 6-8 touches and hurt Ray Rice's totals. Rice rushed for 70 yards on 15 carries and caught one ball for 47 ytards. Pierce's performance could earn him double-digit touches against Denver.

1/6/2013 9:30:00 AM
Description: Baltimore backup running back Bernard Pierce has been dealing with an ankle injury that has limited him in practice, but he is expected to be ready to go on Sunday versus Indianapolis in the first round of the playoffs.
Insight: Pierce should see his usual workload, about six to eight carries, as Ray Rice's backup.

12/17/2012 11:11:00 AM
Description: Baltimore backup running back Bernard Pierce, who was knocked out of the Denver due to a concussion, is doubtful for Week 16 against the Giants.
Insight: The concussion to Pierce should mean more carries for Ray Rice which fantasy owners will appreciate.

12/16/2012 3:42:00 PM
Description: Baltimore backup running back Bernard Pierce is out for the remainder of the game with Denver due to a concussion.
Insight: Pierce had 20 yards rushing as Ray Rice's backup, but the Ravens are down big and weren't going to run much the rest of the way anyway.

5/2/2012 12:44:00 PM
Description: The drafting of Temple running back Bernard Pierce by Baltimore should make him the "handcuff" to superstar back Ray Rice.
Insight: Pierce is simply the best of the rest on the Ravens roster and he should be the replacement for Ricky Williams.
