Bears release Anderson, add QB Palmer
Lake Forest, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Bears waived veteran defensive end Jamaal Anderson and signed quarterback Jordan Palmer among a sequence of roster moves that took place Saturday.
Anderson, the eighth overall pick of the 2007 draft by Atlanta, had joined the Bears just prior to the start of training camp. The six-year pro spent last season with the Cincinnati Bengals but played in just two games before tearing his quadriceps and landing on injured reserve.
Palmer, the younger brother of Arizona Cardinals starting quarterback Carson Palmer, owns five years of NFL experience but has only appeared in four regular-season games -- all with the Bengals -- over that time. He completed 10-of-15 passes for 59 yards and two interceptions in those contests.
The 29-year-old journeyman was on the Jacksonville Jaguars' active roster for part of last season.
Chicago also signed defensive tackle Eric Foster, an 11-game starter as a rookie with Indianapolis in 2008 who was out of the NFL last season. The Rutgers product compiled 117 tackles and six sacks over 49 games (11 starts) in four seasons with the Colts.
To make room on the preseason roster, the Bears waived undrafted rookie linebacker Andrew Starks.
