Description: Jon Heyman from CBS reports that the Diamondbacks have inked veteran catcher Rod Barajas to a minor league contract.
Insight: Barajas spent his first five seasons in Arizona, winning a World Series there in 2001. He split playing time with Michael McKenry in Pittsburgh last season, producing a .206 average and 11 homers in 321 at bats.

7/30/2012 7:44:00 PM
Description: Pirates catcher Rod Barajas is not in the lineup Monday versus Chicago.
Insight: Barajas had been in an 0-for-19 slide before singling in the top of the eighth Sunday against Houston. He'll ride the bench while Michael McKenry (.268, 9 HRs, 22 RBIs) makes his 37th start of the year behind the plate for Pittsburgh.

Cold7/27/2012 7:37:00 PM
Description: Pirates catcher Rod Barajas is getting a rest Friday against Houston.
Insight: Perhaps Barajas (.206, 8 HRs, 19 RBIs) could use a night off to regroup. The 36-year-old is hitless in his last 14 at bats.

7/22/2012 1:11:00 PM
Description: Pittsburgh catcher Rod Barajas isn't starting Sunday afternoon's game against Miami.
Insight: This appears to just be a day of rest for the 36-year-old, who is hitting .215 this season with eight homers and 19 RBIs in 64 appearances.

7/4/2012 12:22:00 PM
Description: Rod Barajas is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against Houston. Its the usual day game rest after a night game for the Pirates catcher.
Insight: Barajas (.218, 7 HR, 18 RBI) isn't usually a fantasy-worthy catcher, but he does have a little pop in his bat.

6/25/2012 9:17:00 PM
Description: Pirates catcher Rod Barajas had to come out of Monday night's game after suffering a bruised left knee on a play at the plate.
Insight: Michael McKenry (.181, 3 HRs, 6 RBIs) subbed in for Barajas in the top of the second inning. Barajas (.224, 7 HRs, 18 RBIs) should be considered day-to-day.

4/23/2012 10:35:00 AM
Description: Pirates catcher Rod Barajas is just 3-for-33 on the season, but facing Rockies starter Jamie Moyer may help him break out of the slump. He owns a career .417 batting average against the 49-year-old lefty with a pair of home runs in 12 at-bats.
Insight: Based on his current performance level, Barajas is at best a one-day pickup. He did hit 16 HR last year in Los Angeles and has hit double-digit homers in four consecutive seasons, but isn't a productive fantasy catcher.

4/14/2012 4:30:00 PM
Description: Rod Barajas is 1-for-17 this season, but if there was ever a game to play him, it would be Saturday against the Giants and Barry Zito.
Insight: Barajas is 11-for-37 with three HRs in his career against Zito. The Pittsburgh C isn't likely owned in many leagues, but perhaps facing Zito will allow him to bust out of his early season slump.

4/7/2012 10:59:00 AM
Description: Rod Barajas is still looking for his first career hit against Phillies starter Cliff Lee.
Insight: Barajas is 0-for-17 and should not be started on Saturday under any conditions. Barajas is an emergency backup fantasy catcher at best, but does have 10-15 HR power.

7/7/2011 11:09:00 AM
Description: Rod Barajas could start a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday. He has been out since June 19 with a sprained right ankle. SOURCE: Los Angeles Times
Insight: Barajas is making progress slower than expected, but if his rehab stint goes well, he may return soon after the All-Star break. He had good power numbers before his injury, so use him in deeper mixed leagues when he returns.

Description: The Red Sox are interested in signing free agent Rod Barajas. SOURCE: Fox Sports
Insight: Barajas is slipping both offensively and defensively and he might not be much better than Jason Varitek. Don't be surprised to see Boston pursue a trade for a solid defensive catcher.

9/27/2010 8:04:00 AM
Description: Barajas went 2-for-4 with a double, home run, two RBI and a run scored on Sunday against Arizona.

Description: Rod Barajas has been placed on waivers by the Mets. SOURCE: ANDY MARTINO ON TWITTER
Insight: He is likely to catch on with a contender, especially since many teams will carry three catchers in September. He is unlikely to have a big enough role to help fantasy owners.

8/16/2010 6:31:00 AM
Description: Rod Barajas will be back from his strained oblique on Tuesday. However, Josh Thole will remain the team's number one catcher. SOURCE: METSBLOG
Insight: This news makes Barajas a weak option even in NL-Only leagues.

7/25/2010 10:16:00 AM
Description: Rod Barajas doesn't think that his oblique injury is severe enough to warrant a trip to the DL. SOURCE: NJ.COM
Insight: He thinks that a few days off will do the trick. His fantasy owners should look for other options for the coming week as the DL is still a good possibility if the Mets don't feel like they can live without him for a few days.

7/22/2010 8:11:00 AM
Description: Barajas went 1-for-5 with a solo home run on Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.
