Description: Free agent starting pitcher Carl Pavano says the snow-shoveling accident that he was involved with this winter nearly cost him his life.
Insight: Pavano reportedly lost six and a half liters of blood and was "hours away from going into cardiac arrest." Fortunately, Pavano is now out of the hospital and expected to make a full recovery. He went 2-5 with a 6.00 ERA in 11 starts for the Twins in 2012.

1/27/2013 3:52:00 PM
Description: Righthander Carl Pavano will miss 6-to-8 weeks after rupturing his spleen in a snow shoveling accident.
Insight: Pavano was oddly effective for the Twins in 2010 (17-11, 3.75 ERA) but has since regressed by posting an 11-18 record and a 4.67 ERA over the last two seasons. The 37-year-old is still a free agent and this news probably won't make his search for a new team any easier.

6/4/2012 7:04:00 PM
Description: Minnesota starter Carl Pavano has been moved to the disabled list. He's dealing with an anterior capsular strain in his right shoulder.
Insight: Pavano (2-5, 6.00 ERA) didn't get off to a good start this year and now we know part of the reason why. This move by the Twins is retroactive to June 2nd.

6/3/2012 3:19:00 PM
Description: Twins manager Ron Gardenhire expects Carl Pavano to go on the disabled list because of a bad shoulder. Pavano has been dealing with shoulder soreness all season and was taken back to Minnesota for an MRI after getting crushed in his start Friday against the Indians.
Insight: Pavano has given up six earned runs in back-to-back starts and just doesn't look like himself right now. In 11 starts in 2012, he's just 2-5 with an ERA of 6.00. Last season Pavano finished the year with a 4.30 ERA in 33 starts.

5/13/2012 12:50:00 PM
Description: Twins starting pitcher Carl Pavano will undergo a precautionary MRI on his shoulder.
Insight: With a 5.02 ERA and 1.30 WHIP Pavano is not on many fantasy radar screens, but he is only a couple of years removed from a 17-11, 3.75 ERA, 1.19 WHIP season.

5/1/2011 6:11:00 PM
Description: Twins SP Carl Pavano lasted just 5 1/3 innings against the Royals, allowing 7 runs on 12 hits.
Insight: With a 5.84 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and just 17 K's in 37 innings, Pavano has been a disappointment this season. There is no reason to keep him on your roster while he is pitching this poorly.

4/19/2011 8:24:00 PM
Description: Twins SP Carl Pavano lasted just 4 2/3 innings against the Orioles, giving up 8 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks; he struck out 3.
Insight: Pavano was excellent in starts 2 and 3 this year, but brutal in starts 1 and 4. Because of this inconsistency he is best left for AL-only leagues.

4/8/2011 9:26:00 PM
Description: Twins SP Carl Pavano beat the A's, allowing 1 run in 8 innings of work; he gave up 4 hits and a walk while striking out 1.
Insight: Pavano is a must-start n AL-only leagues and can be used in mixed leagues when the match-up is right.

4/2/2011 5:45:00 AM
Description: Carl Pavano allowed eight runs (seven earned) in four-plus innings in Toronto last night. Three homers did most of the damage.
Insight: Pavano's defense didn't help him out much in the first inning. He got it back together for a couple frames before struggling with the long ball in the fourth and fifth. He has always struggled when pitching against Toronto. Keep him on the bench next week when he goes to Yankee Stadium but don't drop him.

Insight: Pavano should be considered a late round pick. His lack of strikeouts, coupled with last year's 2nd half ERA and WHIP drop off doesn't bode well for the Ground-baller.

2/23/2011 2:04:00 PM
Description: SI.com's Jon Heyman reports Pavano has been named the Twins' Opening Day starter against Toronto.
Insight: Pavano earned the nod with his solid 2010 season, as he went 17-10 with a 3.75 ERA over 32 starts. (RapidDraft.com)

1/19/2011 11:01:00 PM
Description: Multipled sources report the Twins and Pavano have agreed to a two-year, $16.5 million deal.
Insight: Pavano went 17-11 with a 3.75 ERA over 32 starts for the Twins in 2010, and if healthy could post a similar line this season. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: Carl Pavano and the Twins agreed to a two-year $16.5 million contract. SOURCE: KEN DAVIDOFF
Insight: A good situation for Pavano. The home park will help but don't expect his win total to be quite as high as last season.

1/19/2011 12:34:00 PM
Description: Reports indicate that Yankees GM Brian Cashman had several discussions with the agent for SP Carl Pavano. SOURCE: Peter Botte via Twitter
Insight: The fact that they considered Pavano and are considering Armando Galarraga shows the Yankees are desperate for starting pitching help. Expect them to try and land a SP in the trade market at some point this season.

1/19/2011 10:02:00 AM
Description: Joe Christensen of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports the Twins are "very close" to a contract with Pavano.
Insight: This has been rumored for awhile, but this week it looks like something will finally get done. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: Carl Pavano and the Twins could take until Wednesday to finalize a contract. SOURCE: JOE CHRISTENSEN
Insight: Pavano is close to 100% to go back to Minnesota, which is good for his fantasy value since he really hit his stride there last year. His low strikeout rate prevents him from being anything more than a rotation filler.

Description: The Twins and righthander Carl Pavano are closing in on a two-year contract. SOURCE: Minneapolis Star Tribune
Insight: Pavano was solid while pitching for the Twins and provided excellent value after the big name starting pitchers are off of the draft board.

1/7/2011 10:04:00 AM
Description: Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.com reports the Twins are closing in on a two-year deal with Pavano.
Insight: Pavano went 17-11 with a 3.75 ERA over 32 starts for the Twins in 2010, and there's no reason to think he can't have similar success in 2011. (RapidDraft.com)

1/6/2011 9:37:00 PM
Description: Carl Pavano is close to a two year deal that will keep him with the Twins. SOURCE: KEN ROSENTHAL
Insight: He wanted a three-year deal but couldn't find one. The Twins could really use Pavano right now. He logs a lot of innings and their bullpen was depleted this off-season. His low strikeout rate will make him a low-end mixed league option and solid AL-Only starter.

12/14/2010 11:05:00 PM
Description: Tom Haudricort of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the Brewers "definitely" remain in the hunt for Pavano.
Insight: Pavano has plenty of possible suitors now that Cliff Lee is off the market. (RapidDraft.com)
