American League Game Summary - Oakland at Cleveland

(Sunday, May 18th)

Final Score: Oakland 13, Cleveland 3

Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Yoenis Cespedes drove in a career-high five runs to help the Oakland Athletics complete a three-game sweep of the Cleveland Indians with a 13-3 victory on Sunday.

Brandon Moss finished 3-for-3 with three RBI and scored four times, and John Jaso and Josh Reddick each drove in two runs for the A's, who outscored Cleveland 30-6 in the series and have won nine of their last 10 contests.

"It's a great way to start the road trip, swing the bats around and really get contributions from everybody," said Athletics manager Bob Melvin.

Jesse Chavez (4-1) allowed two runs on six hits and three walks while fanning six over five solid innings. It was his second straight win and third in his last four starts.

Justin Masterson (2-3) surrendered a season-high seven runs on seven hits and five walks in 4 1/3 innings to absorb his second straight loss.

"Command was obviously his biggest issue. He had five walks and couldn't locate his breaking ball," said Indians manager Terry Francona.

Michael Bourn and Michael Brantley each recorded solo homers for the Indians, who have dropped four straight and six of their last eight games. Cleveland was 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.

Unlike the Indians, Oakland took advantage of its scoring chances. With the game tied at one apiece, Masterson walked Josh Donaldson and Moss to put the first two on in the fourth. Jaso's one-out double to left scored Donaldson and Reddick followed with an RBI single to make it 3-1.

The A's opened it up in the fifth with the first two reaching on a single and a walk. Donaldson connected on an RBI single to left and Moss doubled down the right field line to plate another. Cespedes' two-run double to deep center gave the A's a 7-1 cushion.

Brantley belted a solo shot in the home half of the fifth, but Moss added to the Oakland lead with a two-out, two-run double in the sixth.

Jim Johnson took the mound for the A's in the bottom of the sixth and loaded the bases with a hit batter and two walks. He then walked Brantley with two outs to force in a run, but Fernando Abad struck out Ryan Raburn to end the threat.

Reddick doubled home Jaso in the seventh for a 10-3 cushion and the Athletics tacked on three more in the eighth on a two-run double from Cespedes and a Jaso groundout to account for the final margin.

The Indians jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Bourn drove a leadoff homer into the Indians bullpen in the first.
