Final Score: Arizona 5, Colorado 3
Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Wade Miley hurled eight strong innings and also went 3-for-4 with an RBI to help the Arizona Diamondbacks down the Colorado Rockies, 5-3, to avoid a three-game sweep at Coors Field.
Miley (2-1) surrendered two runs on seven hits to earn the win.
"Wade did an excellent job and that's what we needed," Arizona outfielder Mark Trumbo said
Trumbo hit a two-run homer -- his fourth long ball in as many games -- for the Diamondbacks, who snapped a four-game skid.
Addison Reed allowed a run in the ninth, but settled down to notch his second save of the season.
Nolan Arenado and Drew Stubbs had one RBI apiece for the Rockies, who had won three of four entering the contest.
Brett Anderson (0-2) allowed five runs -- three earned -- on 10 hits over six innings to absorb the loss.
A.J. Pollock and Aaron Hill opened the third with back-to-back singles. Paul Goldschmidt then roped a grounder down the third baseline that bounced off Arenado's glove, allowing Pollock and Hill to score.
The D-backs added one run in the fourth and two in the fifth to make it 5-0.
In the fourth, Chris Owings doubled to open the frame then scored on Miley's base hit to right.
In the fifth, Martin Prado singled before Trumbo destroyed a two-run blast to left field. It was his 100th career homer.
"Trumbo's home run was the one that hurt," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said.
The Rockies got on the board in the fifth. Wilin Rosario doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch. After Arenado walked, Stubbs lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Rosario.
Arenado's sacrifice fly in the seventh made it 5-2. Troy Tulowitzki singled then moved to third on Rosario's double. Arenado followed with a fly ball to center to plate Tulowitzki.
The Rockies had a chance to tie the game in the ninth inning. Carlos Gonzalez walked, stole second then moved to third on Miguel Montero's throwing error. Tulowitzki walked to put runners on the corners and Rosario grounded into a double play. Gonzalez scored on the play.
Reed got Arenado to fly out to end the game.
Trumbo homered in all three games of the series ... Arizona was 2-for-10 with RISP ... The Rockies went 0-for-5 with RISP ... Hill, Goldschmidt and Prado each collected two hits in the win.
