Description: Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz is just 1-for-13 (.077) versus Rays right-hander Jake Odorizzi.
Insight: Ortiz is a career .293 hitter versus right-handers versus .266 against left-handers, so this is out of character for Big Papi. Ortiz is on a six-game hitting streak, but faces an unfavorable matchup which should be avoided.
Description: Tigers DH Victor Martinez has a .353 career BA against Jeremy Guthrie.
Insight: It seems all of Detroit's big guns hit Guthrie well. J.D. Martinez hits .333, Miguel Cabrera hits .320, and Ian Kinsler is a .333 lifetime hitter against Kansas City's starting pitcher. It could be a big day for Tigers' hitters.
Description: Twins first baseman Kennys Vargas was 2-for-3 and scored the game-winning run in the, 1-0, victory over the White Sox on Friday.
Insight: Vargas scored on a wild pitch in the fifth and that proved to be the difference on Friday. Vargas has had a rough start to the season, however, as he is hitting .194 with one home run and four RBI this season.
Description: Tigers DH Victor Martinez had two hits in the, 8-1, loss to the Royals on Thursday.
Insight: Martinez and Miguel Cabrera, who went 1-for-2 with two walks, that had solid at-bats versus Danny Duffy. Martinez was 0-for-9 in the previous two games, so it was nice to see Martinez get two hits Thursday, but he still doesn't seem like himself due to his knee issue. It shouldn't be a surprise if Martinez hit the disabled list at some point.
Description: Royals designated hitter Kendrys Morales was 3-for-5 with four runs and three RBI in the, 11-5, victory over the Indians on Tuesday.
Insight: Morales hit a three-run homer in the seventh to give the Royals their first lead since the second inning. He also scored in the fourth, sixth and nine innings. Morales is hitting .321 with three home runs and 14 RBI this season.
Description: Oakland 1B/DH Billy Butler has struggled versus Angels pitcher Jared Weaver in his career.
Insight: Butler is 11-for-63 (.175) against Weaver with 11 strikeouts. Butler is hitting .325 with a .887 OPS in 77 at-bats this season, so it is understandable if owners just want to start him anyway, but the matchup suggests he won't have a good game.
