For The Last 15 Days

Mark Teixeira, 1B, NYY9/17/2014 4:35:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is back in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Rays.
Insight: Teixeira is dealing with lingering wrist discomfort. It used to be you could count on him for 30 homers like clockwork, but he hit 24 last season and has 21 so far this year.
Adam LaRoche, 1B, WAS9/17/2014 3:53:00 PM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche is one of many Nationals not in the starting lineup after they clinched the NL East Tuesday night.
Insight: LaRoche can use the rest having gone hitless in his last four games (17 at-bats) LaRoche is a key cog in the Nationals offense and likely your fantasy lineup as he is batting .257 with 24 home runs and 86 RBI this year.
Joe Mauer, 1B, MIN9/17/2014 11:28:00 AM
Description: Twins first baseman Joe Mauer is a .167 hitter (3-for-18), with five strikeouts against Tigers' starter David Price.
Insight: Mauer has had a disappointing season in 2014, and that trend could continue tonight versus one of Detroit's aces.
Justin Morneau, 1B, COL9/17/2014 12:11:00 AM
Description: Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau went 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs to help the Rockies beat the Dodgers, 10-4, on Tuesday.
Insight: Pirates third baseman Josh Harrison went 1-for-4, so Morneau crept a little closer to the batting title lead in the National League. One batting point separates the two hitters. Morneau is batting .316 with 15 home runs and 73 RBI this year.
James Loney, 1B, TAM9/16/2014 11:07:00 PM
Description: Rays first baseman James Loney was 3-for-4 and scored a run as the Rays beat the Yankees, 6-1, on Tuesday.

Albert Pujols, 1B, ANA9/16/2014 6:04:00 PM
Description: Angels first baseman Albert Pujols left last night's game with a left hamstring cramp. UPDATE: Pujols is in the Angels lineup Tuesday.
Insight: He had a bases-clearing double in the third inning, but seemed to come up lame on his way to second base. The news coming out of Los Angeles is that they are calling it just a cramp, which would be great news. Consider Pujols day-to-day.
Mark Teixeira, 1B, NYY9/16/2014 5:55:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is not in the starting lineup on Tuesday against the Rays.
Insight: Teixeira is dealing with lingering wrist discomfort according to the New York Daily News. Yankees manager Joe Girardi will count on Teixeira to let the team know when he is ready to return. He is listed as day-to-day.
Anthony Rizzo, 1B, CHC9/16/2014 4:05:00 PM
Description: Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo was in line for a tough matchup against Reds' righty Johnny Cueto, so he'll sit Tuesday.
Insight: Fresh off his return to the Cubs' lineup and his walk-off homerun, Rizzo had poor numbers against Cueto. He has a .111 batting average (2-for-18), with five strikeouts against the Reds' ace.
Anthony Rizzo, 1B, CHC9/16/2014 11:42:00 AM
Description: Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo is in line for a tough matchup against Reds' righty Johnny Cueto.
Insight: Fresh off his return to the Cubs' lineup and his walk-off homerun, Rizzo heads into Tuesday's game with poor numbers against Cueto. He has a .111 batting average (2-for-18), with five strikeouts against the Reds' ace.
Justin Morneau, 1B, COL9/15/2014 6:23:00 PM
Description: Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau (intercostal) is in the lineup for Monday's game against the LA Dodgers and he's got a favorable matchup.
Insight: Morneau is batting .333 (12-for-36) with four homers and 12 RBI against Dodgers right-hander Roberto Hernandez. Morneau has been a solid fantasy option all season with a .315 batting average, 15 HR and 72 RBI. He'll never be the MVP slugger he was back in Minnesota, but he still holds fantasy value.
Anthony Rizzo, 1B, CHC9/15/2014 3:42:00 PM
Description: Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo (back) returns to the lineup Monday night.
Insight: He returns at a great time for Cubs' fans and fantasy owners. Not only is Rizzo having a career-year (.278 BA, 30 HR, 78 RBI), he also has solid numbers against Reds' starter Alredo Simon (4-for-12 with 2 HR). Owners can safely plug him into their lineups for the stretch run.
Justin Morneau, 1B, COL9/15/2014 9:55:00 AM
Description: Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau (intercostal) is questionable for Monday's game against the LA Dodgers, but if he's in the lineup he's got a favorable matchup.
Freddie Freeman, 1B, ATLHot9/15/2014 9:30:00 AM
Description: Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman is 11-for-25 (.440) with three home runs against Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg.
Insight: Freeman's numbers are slightly down from last season as pitchers are avoiding him, but he's been hot over the past two weeks, batting .333 over the span.
Matt Adams, 1B, STL9/14/2014 6:19:00 PM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams was not in Sunday's lineup after aggravating his left oblique injury on Saturday according to Stan McNeal of Fox Sports Midwest.com.
Insight: Adams first injured his oblique a week and a half ago but returned after just missing two games. Daniel Descalso and Xavier Scruggs will play first base until Adams can return. It is unclear how long the big lefty will be out this time.
Mike Napoli, 1B, BOSCold9/14/2014 11:25:00 AM
Description: Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli is 12-for-32 (.375) against Royals starter Jason Vargas in his career.
Insight: Napoli has also hit for power in this matchup, batting two doubles and going deep four times. It is a bit risky starting Napoli because he is 0-for-11 in his last three games, but historically, he hits very well against Vargas.
Justin Morneau, 1B, COL9/14/2014 10:54:00 AM
Description: Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau (intercostal) is expected to return to the lineup soon according to the Denver Post.
Insight: Not exactly what owners wanted to hear. What does soon actually mean? The Denver Post did not actually specify, which is really frustrating. But with the National League batting title on the line, Morneau has a reason to get back into the lineup as soon as possible. Until he is ready, Ben Paulsen will be playing first base for the Rockies.
Garrett Jones, 1B, MIA9/14/2014 9:11:00 AM
Description: Marlins first baseman Garrett Jones hit a solo home run against Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick for Miami's only run on Saturday as Philadelphia won, 2-1.
Insight: Miami has struggled without Giancarlo Stanton in the lineup as they have scored just four runs in the last 22 innings since he left. Every hitter in the Marlin lineup loses fantasy value without Stanton, but besides Marcell Ozuna, Jones is the only power bat left for Miami. He has 15 homers with 51 RBI and is batting .242.
Brandon Belt, 1B, SFG9/13/2014 6:57:00 PM
Description: Giants first baseman Brandon Belt (concussion) will face live pitching on Monday according to Alex Pavlovic of the Bay Area News Group.

Anthony Rizzo, 1B, CHC9/12/2014 6:25:00 PM
Description: Cubs manager Rick Renteria said Friday that first baseman Anthony Rizzo (back) will likely not return this weekend according to Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune.

Description: Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams is not in the starting lineup on Friday.
Insight: St. Louis is facing left-handed pitcher Jorge De La Rosa on Friday, so Mike Matheny is stacking his lineup with right-handed bats. Adams will probably be used as a pinch hitter.
Joey Votto, 1B, CIN9/12/2014 1:50:00 PM
Description: Reds 1B Joey Votto (quad) made the trip to Milwaukee with the team.
Insight: We still don't have a timetable for his return, but this is encouraging news.
Adrian Gonzalez, 1B, LOS9/12/2014 1:43:00 PM
Description: Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez is 4-for-29 (.138 with six strikeouts versus Gaints left-hander Madison Bumgarner.
Insight: Gonzalez cracked the 100-RBI mark again this season and his 23 homers is his best total since 2011. This matchup, however, should probably be avoided.
Joe Mauer, 1B, MIN9/12/2014 1:36:00 PM
Description: Twins first baseman Joe Mauer is a .444 hitter (9-for-18) against White Soxc starter Jose Quintana.
Insight: For the season, he is hitting just.272 with four home runs and 46 RBI, which is certainly disappointing based on his historic standards.
Chris Davis, 1B, BAL9/12/2014 12:35:00 PM
Description: The perfect end to a lost season for Baltimore 1B/3B Chris Davis as he was suspended for 25 games after testing positive for amphetamines.
Insight: Davis was hitting .196 but has a respectable 26 home runs, 72 RBI and 65 runs. On the other hand, fantasy owners were hoping for a repeat of last season's 53 homers and 138 RBI.
Carlos Santana, 1B, CLE9/11/2014 6:10:00 PM
Description: Indians C/1B/3B Carlos Santana went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in the second game of a doubleheader against the Twins.
Insight: Santana started out the day with a home run in the first game. He hit a line drive shot over the fence in the fourth inning of the second game. Santana singled to left in the eighth to drive in the Indians second run as Cleveland won, 2-0. The first baseman went 3-for-8 with two home runs and four RBI in the doubleheader.
Carlos Santana, 1B, CLE9/11/2014 3:10:00 PM
Description: Indians C/1B/3B Carlos Santana played excellent in the first game of a doubleheader against the Twins on Thursday.
Insight: Santana hit a bomb in the bottom of the first to start what was a big day for the Cleveland offense. He drove in two with the blast. Santana finished 1-for-4 but also made some spectacular plays in the field.
Garrett Jones, 1B, MIA9/11/2014 1:15:00 PM
Description: Marlins first baseman Garrett Jones is 1-for-10 lifetime with five strikeouts against Brewers pitcher Mike Fiers.
Insight: Fiers is a decent pitcher, but it is not like he will be in Cy Young contention anytime soon. Jones just doesn't see the ball well against him. Don't start Jones on Thursday.
Freddie Freeman, 1B, ATL9/10/2014 9:46:00 AM
Description: Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman is 10-for-22 (.455) with three home runs against Nationals flamethrower Stephen Strasburg.
Insight: Freeman's numbers are slightly down from last season as pitchers are avoiding him. He's already walked a personal high 80 times which partially explains his lower RBI total.
Matt Adams, 1B, STL9/9/2014 10:53:00 PM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams went 2-for-4 with a double in a losing effort against the Reds on Tuesday.
Insight: Adams has struggled so far this month, so the multi-hit game is nice to see. Adams is hitting .291 with 15 home runs and 63 RBI this season.
Edwin Encarnacion, 1B, TOR9/9/2014 10:49:00 PM
Description: Blue Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnacion went 3-for-5 with a double against the Cubs on Tuesday.
Insight: Encarnacion is hitting an awful .190 since returning from his injury on Aug. 15. Since that date, he has four home runs and 11 RBI. Overall though, Encarnacion has 30 home runs and 81 RBI to go along with a .265 average.
Adam LaRoche, 1B, WASHot9/9/2014 10:28:00 PM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche went 2-for-3 with two RBI-singles on Tuesday against the Braves.
Insight: LaRoche has two hits in each of his last three games. During that time, he is 6-for-11 (.545) with two home runs and four RBI. LaRoche is a key cog in the Nationals offense and likely your fantasy lineup as he is batting .266 with 23 home runs and 82 RBI this year.
Anthony Rizzo, 1B, CHC9/9/2014 2:32:00 PM
Description: Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo (back) took some light ground ball practice and a few swings in the cages, according to the team's site.
Insight: Rizzo (.278, 30 HR, 71 RBI, .889 OPS) hopes to return by the weekend. Chicago and fantasy owners have missed hit bat for too long. The left-handed slugger hasn't played since Aug 26.
Justin Morneau, 1B, COL9/8/2014 6:36:00 PM
Description: Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau is not in Monday's lineup against the Mets.
Insight: It's probably just a routine night off. Michael Cuddyer will make the start at first base. Morneau is likely being eased back into action slowly after his hamstring strain.
Albert Pujols, 1B, ANA9/8/2014 4:24:00 PM
Description: Angels first baseman Albert Pujols went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run and three runs scored as the Angels defeat the Indians, 12-3, on Monday.
Insight: Pujols had a big day at the plate on Sunday, recording his 2,500th career hit and scoring his 1.500th career run. Monday was his third straight multi-hit game. Over that stretch, he is hitting .571 (8-for-14) with two home runs, two doubles and seven RBI.
Mike Napoli, 1B, BOSCold9/8/2014 3:43:00 PM
Description: Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli (illness) is back in the lineup on Monday night against the Orioles.
Insight: Napoli did not play Sunday after leaving Saturday's game with an illness that made him dizzy. He is batting fifth and playing first base on Monday.
Mark Reynolds, 1B, MIL9/8/2014 12:17:00 PM
Description: Brewers first baseman Mark Reynolds is hitting .412 (7-for-17) in his career against Marlins starter Brad Penny.
Insight: Reynolds also has seven RBI against Penny. Reynolds has 21 home runs on the season, but besides maybe a plug in when he has a favorable matchup like Monday, Reynolds is not fantasy relavant. He is hitting .198/.288/.396 with 30 extra-base hits and 44 RBI this year.
Adam LaRoche, 1B, WAS9/8/2014 12:03:00 PM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche is a career .400 hitter (6-for-15) against Braves starter Mike Minor.
Insight: LaRoche hit two solo home runs on Sunday to push him to 23 on the season. He is also hitting .261 with 80 RBI. LaRoche is a nice start on Monday.
Carlos Santana, 1B, CLE9/8/2014 11:51:00 AM
Description: Indians C/1B/3B Carlos Santana is 10-for-20 with two home runs and five RBI in his career against Angels starter Jered Weaver.
Insight: Santana was 0-for-3 on Sunday but had an RBI-single on Saturday that ended up being the game-winning run. Santana is hitting .228 with 25 home runs, 22 doubles and 73 RBI. He may have a low average but his OPS is a respectable .799.
Miguel Cabrera, 1B, DETHot9/8/2014 11:40:00 AM
Description: Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera went deep on Sunday, driving in three runs, to lead the Tigers over the Giants, 6-1.
Insight: The 2-for-4 night extended Cabrera's hitting streak to eight games. He has 22 home runs and 100 RBI on the season while batting .310. Cabrera has been battling bone spurs in his ankle, but that has not effected him at the plate in his last seven games. The first baseman was 15-for-30 with five home runs and nine RBI last week.
Adrian Gonzalez, 1B, LOSHot9/8/2014 11:35:00 AM
Description: Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez nailed two three-run bombs in the Dodgers' 7-2 victory over the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Insight: Gonzalez came up with two runners on in the sixth and seventh and hit home runs in each at-bat. The big afternoon put Gonzalez at 22 home runs and at 100 RBI on the season. It is the fifth straight year Gonzalez has reached 100 RBI. He is hitting .279/.338/.474 this season.
James Loney, 1B, TAM9/7/2014 6:59:00 PM
Description: Rays first baseman James Loney went 4-for-6 with a solo home run in a losing effort against the Orioles on Sunday.
Insight: Loney had a great August, hitting .304 with 13 RBI and nine runs, but Loney came into Sunday's contest hitting .167 in the first week of September. Sunday's 4-for-6 will certainly raise the old batting average. Loney is hitting .286 with eight home runs and 64 RBI this season.
Adam LaRoche, 1B, WAS9/7/2014 6:46:00 PM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche went 2-for-4 with two home runs as the Nationals defeated the Phillies, 3-2, on Sunday.
Insight: LaRoche hit two solo home runs, one in the second inning to tie it and then another one in the fourth to tie the game again. LaRoche has 23 home runs on the season and is hitting .261 with 80 RBI.
Paul Konerko, 1B, CWS9/7/2014 10:46:00 AM
Description: White Sox DH/1B Paul Konerko is a career 2-for-12 (.167) hitter against Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco.
Insight: Konerko may not play anyway as he has a fracture in his left hand. The 38-year-old is planning to retire at the end of the season, so he will likely try to play through the fracture to finish the season, but owners should probably stay away from putting him in the lineup.
Mike Napoli, 1B, BOSCold9/7/2014 10:30:00 AM
Description: Boston first baseman Mike Napoli (illness) is not in the starting lineup on Sunday against the Blue Jays.
Insight: Napoli left Saturday's game after an illness made him dizzy. He will likely return in a day or two. Allen Craig will start at first base on Sunday.
Ryan Howard, 1B, PHI9/7/2014 10:13:00 AM
Description: Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard is likely to be watching the action this Sunday.
Insight: Howard is hitless in 12 plate appearances against Nationals left-hander Gio Gonzalez with six strikeouts. Expect Darin Ruf at 1B as he's a career .357 hitter (5-for-14) versus Gonzalez.
Pedro Alvarez, 1B, PITCold9/7/2014 10:00:00 AM
Description: Pirates first baseman Pedro Alvarez an ugly 1-for-18 (.056) versus Cubs left-hander Travis Wood.
Insight: Alvarez has been dealing with a foot problem and has just one at-bat since Aug 26. Sunday is not the day for him to return.
Nate Freiman, 1B, OAK9/7/2014 9:56:00 AM
Description: A's first baseman Nate Freiman is 6-for-11 (.545) with four extra-base hits versus Houston starter Dallas Keuchel.
Insight: The 27-year-old doesn't play every day, but should be in the lineup for this favorable matchup. He's batting .233 with four homers and 12 RBI in 60 at-bats this season.
Ryan Rua, 1B, TEX9/7/2014 9:55:00 AM
Description: Rangers first baseman Ryan Rua went 3-for-4 with an RBI double against the Mariners on Saturday.
Insight: Rua has played consistenly since he was called up from the minors on Aug. 29, and this is his best game so far. He is hitting .257/.297/.286 in 35 at-bats in that time frame, and the double on Saturday was his first extra-base hit. He should be an everday player down the stretch, but he still probably only has fantasy value in very deep leagues or AL-only leagues.
Adrian Gonzalez, 1B, LOSHot9/7/2014 9:49:00 AM
Description: Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez is a career .440 hitter (11-for-25) with a pair of homers versus Diamondbacks right-hander Trevor Cahill.
Insight: Gonzalez is hitting .278 with only 20 home runs and 94 RBI. He should be a lock for his fifth consecutive 100-RBI season.
Miguel Cabrera, 1B, DETHot9/7/2014 9:48:00 AM
Description: Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera is a career .429 hitter against Giants right-hander Tim Hudson, but he's never taken him deep.
Insight: He's on a seven-game hitting streak. Cabrera has 21 homers and 97 RBI after blasting two long balls Saturday. That would be impressive for most hitters, but Miggy isn't most hitters. He's coming off a .348, 44 HR, 137 RBI season in 2013 and these new numbers pale compared to last season.
Justin Morneau, 1B, COL9/7/2014 9:48:00 AM
Description: Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau went 4-for-6, belting his 15th home run of the season, on Saturday against the Padres.
Insight: The big day has put Morneau right back up with the National League leaders in average. He is currently one point behind Josh Harrison at .314 for the batting title. Morneau also has 72 RBI, 50 runs and a .845 OPS to go along with the .314 average and 15 homers. With two more years remaining on his Colorado contract, we expect Morneau to continue these kind of numbers, hitting in Coors Field the next two seasons.
Joe Mauer, 1B, MIN9/6/2014 11:15:00 PM
Description: Twins first baseman Joe Mauer was 2-for-3 with a walk on Saturday in a loss against the Angels.
Insight: Mauer has been getting on base a lot lately, with at least a hit and a walk in each of his last four games. In his last eight games, Mauer is batting .344 with a double, a triple and six RBI. For the season, he is hitting just.277 with four home runs and 46 RBI, which is disappointing based on his standards.
Albert Pujols, 1B, ANA9/6/2014 10:53:00 PM
Description: Angels first baseman Albert Pujols recorded his 2,500th career hit on Saturday in the Angels' 8-5 victory over the Twins.
Insight: The record-setting hit was a go-ahead two-run double in the top of the ninth. Pujols also had a home run and reached 1,500 career runs in the game. Pujols is the 16th player to reach the 2,500 hits, 500 home runs and 1,500 run clubs in his career. Pujols is batting .274 with 25 home runs and 87 RBI this year.
Matt Adams, 1B, STL9/6/2014 10:18:00 PM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams hit his 14th home run of the season on Saturday in his return from his left oblique injury.
Insight: Adams has had a solid season, but had been struggling late, probably partly because of his oblique injury. So it was nice to see the big first baseman slug a home run on Saturday. Adams is hitting .291 with 48 extra-base hits and 59 RBI this year.
Mike Napoli, 1B, BOSCold9/6/2014 10:11:00 PM
Description: Boston first baseman Mike Napoli left Saturday's game against the Blue Jays due to illness.
Insight: Napoli was 1-for-1 and scored a run prior to leaving. Outfielder Daniel Nava replaced Napoli, who more than likely will not return on Sunday.
Chris Davis, 1B, BAL9/6/2014 9:35:00 PM
Description: Baltimore first baseman Chris Davis was 2-for-4 with his 26th home run of the season in a losing effort against Tampa Bay on Saturday.
Insight: Davis continues to be one of the biggest feast or famine starts in the league. He is hitting .196 but has a respectable 26 home runs, 72 RBI and 63 runs. Nothing will change down the stretch. Expect a lot or very little from the Orioles first baseman.
Miguel Cabrera, 1B, DET9/6/2014 4:32:00 PM
Description: Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera clubbed a pair of home runs Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't enough to get the Tigers the win.
Insight: Cabrera now has 21 homers and 97 RBI. That would be impressive for most hitters, but Miggy isn't most hitters. He's coming off a .348, 44 HR, 137 RBI season in 2013 and these new numbers pale compared to last season.
Matt Adams, 1B, STL9/6/2014 3:08:00 PM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams (left oblique) is back in the starting lineup for Saturday's game
Insight: Adams has been solid, batting .292 with 13 HR and 57 RBI, but without as much power as expected, considering he hit 17 homers in 296 at-bats last season.
Anthony Rizzo, 1B, CHC9/6/2014 11:59:00 AM
Description: Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo is dealing with a strained muscle in his back and under normal conditions would be on the 15-day disabled list, but with expanded rosters that wasn't necessary.
Insight: Rizzo shouldn't be expected back for a while. That's a big bat out of the lineup for Chicago and fantasy owners (.278, 30 HR, 71 RBI, .889 OPS).
Edwin Encarnacion, 1B, TOR9/6/2014 11:32:00 AM
Description: Toronto first baseman Edwin Encarnacion is just a .115 hitter (3-for-26) against Boston starter Clay Buchholz.
Insight: Encarnacion homered Friday night to reach 30 for the third consecutive season. But he has never taken Buchholz deep.
Jose Abreu, 1B, CWSHot9/6/2014 11:20:00 AM
Description: White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu is a career .462 hitter (6-for-13) versus Cleveland starter Corey Kluber.
Insight: He must be one of the only ones as Kluber has pitched very well this season. Abreu has batted over .300 in each of the last three months to go along with his long ball ability. He's batting .324 with 33 HR, 99 RBI and a .990 OPS for the season. That's MVP material.
Justin Bour, 1B, MIA9/5/2014 10:24:00 PM
Description: Marlins first baseman Justin Bour was 2-for-5 with a double, RBI and run scored in the victory over the Braves on Friday.
Insight: Bour was making his first major league appearance since July 13 and had the best game of his big league career. He, however, remains only relevant in dynasty leagues. Bour has eight hits in 32 at-bats this year.
Adam LaRoche, 1B, WAS9/5/2014 3:42:00 PM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche is in Friday's starting lineup.
Insight: LaRoche didn't start Wednesday, but came into the game and knocked in five runs. He was sitting due to back soreness, but obiously it wasn't that bad. He's been a solid RBI man this season, batting .259 with 20 HR and 75 RBI.
Albert Pujols, 1B, ANA9/5/2014 11:40:00 AM
Description: Angels first baseman Albert Pujols has been very successful when facing Minnesota right-hander Ricky Nolasco.
Insight: In 22 career at-bats, Pujols is batting .545 with three homers and 10 RBI. he's batting .271 with 24 HR and 83 RBI this season. Nice numbers, but hardly the Pujols we remember from years past.
Mark Teixeira, 1B, NYY9/5/2014 11:08:00 AM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is a lifetime .125 hitter (6-for-48) against Royals starter James Shields with 15 strikeouts.
Insight: Teixeira was 3-for-10 with a game-tying home run in the three-game set with Boston, but this is an extremely unfavorable matchup. He has hit 20 or more home runs for the 11 time in 12 seasons.
Xavier Scruggs, 1B, STL9/5/2014 10:46:00 AM
Description: Xavier Scruggs made his major league debut at first base Thursday and went 0-for-3, but could continue to see playing time if Matt Adams isn't healthy enough to return.
Insight: Scruggs put together a solid season at Triple-A Memphis, but who knows what he could produce under the pressure of a major league pennant race.
Matt Adams, 1B, STLCold9/5/2014 10:43:00 AM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams injured his left oblique in his final at-bat Wednesday night, missed Thursday's game and is questionable for the important weekend series with the second-place Brewers.
Insight: Xavier Scruggs made his major league debut at first base Thursday and went 0-for-3. He put together a solid season at Triple-A Memphis, but who knows what he could produce under the pressure of a major league pennant race.
Pedro Alvarez, 1B, PIT9/5/2014 10:32:00 AM
Description: Pirates first baseman Pedro Alvarez is questionable for Friday's game against the Chicago Cubs.
Insight: Alvarez left Tuesday's game with a sprain between two toes in his left foot and has not returned to the field since then. He is available to pinch hit, according to Paul Zeise of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, but is unlikely ready to play in the field.
Matt Adams, 1B, STLCold9/5/2014 3:57:00 AM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams injured his left oblique in his final at-bat Wednesday night, missed Thursday's game and is not in the lineup Friday for the start of an important weekend series with the second-place Brewers.
Insight: Daniel Descalso is getting the start at first base, but his fantasy value is minimal based on his performance over the first 138 at-bats.
Matt Adams, 1B, STLCold9/4/2014 6:28:00 PM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams is day-to-day with an oblique injury.
Insight: It was intially though St. Louis was sitting down Adams because of his struggles at the plate, registering one hit in his last 11 at-bats and posting a career .143 mark against the Brewers starter Wily Peralta. That however, is not the case as Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak revealed that Adams strained his oblique. The 26-year-old Xavier Scruggs will make his major league debut at first base on Thursday.
Matt Adams, 1B, STLCold9/4/2014 4:03:00 PM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams is not in the starting lineup on Thursday against the Brewers.
Insight: Adams is struggling with one hit in his last 11 at-bats and is a career .143 hitter against the Brewers starter Wily Peralta. Mike Adams will likely play Friday. The 26-year-old Xavier Scruggs will make his major league debut at first base on Thursday.
Matt Adams, 1B, STLCold9/4/2014 1:41:00 PM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams is 2-for-14 in his career against Brewers starter Wily Peralta.
Insight: Adams has started September a bit cold with one hit in 11 at-bats to start the month. He has also struck out in each of the last six games. It would probably be best to sit the big first baseman down on Thursday.
Carlos Santana, 1B, CLE9/4/2014 12:22:00 PM
Description: Indians C/1B/3B Carlos Santana is hitting just 3-for-37 (.081) against Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer in his career.
Insight: Santana, however, did hit a home run against Justin Verlander on Wednesday. Santana is hitting .286 with two home runs in his last five games. It would still take a leap of faith to start him against Scherzer.
Justin Morneau, 1B, COL9/3/2014 8:13:00 PM
Description: Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau knocked in his 70th run of the season and with two hits raised his average to .312.
Insight: Morneau is having a solid bounce back season, but he could end up playing elsewhere in 2015, as the Rockies did put him on revocable waivers, but couldn't work out a deal with Milwaukee. Although Milwaukee is a good place to hit, fantasy owners probably would like him to stay in Colorado.
Jose Abreu, 1B, CWSHot9/3/2014 5:08:00 PM
Description: White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu is back inb Wednesday's starting lineup.
Insight: Tuesday was just a routine night off for the slugger. He's on an 11-game hitting streak and has raised his average to .320 to go along with 33 HR, 99 RBI and a .983 OPS. That's got to get him in the conversation for MVP.
Adam LaRoche, 1B, WAS9/3/2014 1:19:00 PM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche is not in Wednesday's starting lineup versus the Dodgers
Insight: LaRoche also sat out Monday's game due to back soreness. He's been a solid RBI man this season, batting .257 with 19 HR and 70 RBI.
Ben Paulsen, 1B, COLHot9/3/2014 12:14:00 PM
Description: Colorado 1B/OF Ben Paulsen will start in right field Wednesday afternoon.
Insight: Paulsen is off to a great beginning, batting .417 with a 1.142 OPS over 14 games since being called up at the end up July.
Ike Davis, 1B, PITCold9/3/2014 12:10:00 PM
Description: Pirates first baseman Ike Davis is surprisingly in the starting lineup Wednesday, but fantasy owners should avoid him.
Insight: Davis is hitless in nine tries versus Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller. He's also just 3-for-15 over the past five games without an extra-base hit.
Joe Mauer, 1B, MIN9/3/2014 10:35:00 AM
Description: Minnesota first baseman Joe Mauer is a career .393 hitter versus White Sox left-hander John Danks
