Final Score: St. Louis 4, Florida 0
Sunrise, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Brian Elliott made 31 saves to backstop the St. Louis Blues to a 4-0 win over the Florida Panthers.
Alexander Steen, the NHL's top performer in the first month of the season, remained red-hot by capping off a three-goal second period with his 12th tally.
"I think [Elliott] is the reason we ended up winning the hockey game," Steen said. "He made some timely saves, some really big saves, and pretty much stood on his head at times tonight."
Chris Stewart registered a goal and an assist for the Blues, who routed the Panthers 7-0 on Oct. 5. St. Louis has won three games in a row and has earned at least one point in six straight contests (4-0-2).
Jacob Markstrom allowed all four goals on 23 shots for Florida, which wrapped up its six-game homestand at 1-3-2.
"If we can't get everybody to compete hardly than we did tonight, then we'll just stumble along," said Panthers coach Kevin Dineen.
Stewart made it 2-0 with his first goal of the season 5:21 into the middle stanza. Alex Pietrangelo scored on a power play at 7:06, then Steen extended his goal streak to six games at 10:42. He has lit the lamp eight times during his current run.
Elliott, making his second start, turned aside 10 third-period shots to preserve his 22nd career shutout.
Derek Roy beat Markstrom with a backhander at 15:41 of the first period.
Elliott now has 99 NHL wins ... The Blues have outscored Florida 17-2 while winning four straight meetings ... St. Louis forward Maxim Lapierre returned to the lineup after serving a five-game suspension.
