Description: Mets right-hander Zack Wheeler goes five innings in loss to Nationals.

Hot9/7/2014 5:56:00 PM
Description: Mets right-hander Zack Wheeler pitched six innings, allowed one run on five hits, struck out six and walked two to beat the Reds, 4-3.
Insight: Wheeler has pitched pretty well down the stretch, not giving up more than two earned runs in a start since Aug. 10. In his last three starts, opponents have scored at least one unearned run, including three unearned in his last start. Cincinnati did not push across any unearned runs on Sunday as Wheeler earned his 10th victory of the season.

Hot8/15/2014 10:26:00 PM
Description: Mets right-hander Zack Wheeler struck out 10 batters and allowed two runs on four hits in 6 2/3 innings Friday against the Cubs.
Insight: Wheeler was inconsistent in the first three months and had a 4.45 ERA on June 25, but he's gone 5-0 with a 2.02 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP and 54 Ks in his last 58 innings. The last two starters to face the Cubs have struck out 24 batters in 12 2/3 innings. Chicago will face Jon Niese Saturday, if you're wondering.

Hot8/5/2014 10:21:00 PM
Description: Mets right-hander Zack Wheeler allowed 11 baserunners (7 H, 4 BB) in 6 2/3 innings Tuesday against the Nationals, but he limited the damage to one run.
Insight: Wheeler has won four straight decisions and given up eight earned runs in 45 1/3 innings (1.59 ERA) in his last seven starts.

Hot7/30/2014 3:51:00 PM
Description: Mets right-hander Zack Wheeler has thrown at least six innings and allowed two earned runs or less in each of his last six starts.
Insight: Wheeler held the Phillies to two runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings Wednesday to win his sixth game of the year. He's lowered his ERA from 4.45 to 3.60 since June 25.

Hot7/25/2014 11:20:00 PM
Description: Mets right-hander Zack Wheeler struck out nine batters and allowed two runs (one earned) over 6 2/3 innings Friday at Milwaukee.
Insight: Wheeler has had an outstanding month, recording a 1.40 ERA and a 26/7 K/BB in 25 2/3 innings. His ERA is down to 3.64, and he's struck out exactly one batter per inning this season (121 Ks in 121 IP).

Hot7/11/2014 10:08:00 PM
Description: Mets right-hander Zack Wheeler has allowed three runs on 15 hits over his last 19 1/3 innings. He held Miami to one run on five hits in 6 2/3 innings Friday to improve to 5-8.
Insight: Wheeler is inconsistent because he walks a lot of batters (3.82 BB/9), but he has a 3.90 ERA and 105 Ks in 108 1/3 innings. His 3.41 FIP and 3.49 xFIP suggest he'll improve.

6/19/2014 9:54:00 PM
Description: Mets right-hander Zack Wheeler tossed his first career complete game and shutout Thursday at Miami.
Insight: Wheeler allowed just three hits, walked one and struck out eight to win his third game of the year and spoil the debut of Andrew Heaney. Wheeler's high walk rate makes him an inconsistent fantasy option, but he has plenty of talent and owns great fielding-independent numbers (9.0 K/9, 0.52 HR/9, 3.15 FIP).

6/4/2014 9:21:00 AM
Description: Mets right-hander Zack Wheeler had another good outing Tuesday against Chicago.
Insight: In 6 2/3 innings, Wheeler gave up two hits and no earned runs while walking only two batters. Unfortunately the Mets couldn't hold the lead and Wheeler was left with his fifth no-decision of the season. Wheeler (2-5, 3.89 ERA) will take the mound again Sunday versus the Giants.

Insight: Wheeler (4 H, 1 ER) struck out six hitters in his first two frames and finished the night with 9 K's over 6 1/3 innings pitched. The win was Wheeler's ninth career victory and his first since April 14th. We'll see if he can add another win to his season total next time out against the Cubs.

5/7/2014 3:49:00 PM
Description: Mets starter Zack Wheeler worked around five walks to throw six shutout innings Wednesday at Miami.
Insight: Wheeler (1-3, 4.35 ERA) gave up just two hits and struck out seven. He hasn't allowed many hard-hit balls (16.5 LD%, 52.3 GB%, 6.3 HR/FB%) this season but his BABIP is .342. The right-hander's FIP is just 3.16.

Description: New York starter Zack Wheeler will not pitch again in 2013. SOURCE: Adam Rubin, ESPN New York
Insight: The Mets are shutting him down because of shoulder stiffness. The righthander will finish his rookie season with seven wins, five losses and a 3.42 ERA in 17 starts.

9/20/2013 7:04:00 PM
Description: If Mets starter Zack Wheeler throws seven or eight innings in his next start, it will likely be his last of the year, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.
Insight: Wheeler has thrown 168 2/3 innings this season between the minors and majors, and the team will limit him to 180 or less. Instead of giving him two starts totaling 10-11 innings, however, manager Terry Collins may give him seven or eight in his next start and call it a season.

9/11/2013 10:38:00 PM
Description: Mets starter Zack Wheeler was the tough-luck loser Wednesday against the Nationals.
Insight: Wheeler took the L despite giving up one run and striking out six in seven innings. After struggling with his control early (4.97 BB/9 first 50 2/3 innings), Wheeler has posted a 2.44 ERA, a 2.44 BB/9 and 40 strikeouts in his last 44 1/3 innings.

9/3/2013 7:27:00 PM
Description: Mets starter Zack Wheeler has about 28 more innings left before he reaches his limit, according to Adam Rubin of ESPNNY.com.
Insight: That should get Wheeler through another four starts. His turn would come up five times in September if the Mets go with a five-man rotation. The 23-year-old rookie has gone 7-3 with a 3.36 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 83 innings since being promoted from Triple-A.

8/20/2013 10:34:00 PM
Description: Mets starter Zack Wheeler threw another quality start Tuesday against the Braves.
Insight: Coming off his six-inning, 12-strikeout game at San Diego, Wheeler allowed six hits and three earned runs with a 5/3 K/BB over six innings. The right-hander has thrown three straight quality starts and is 6-2 with a 3.49 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP.

8/11/2013 9:45:00 AM
Description: Mets starter Zack Wheeler beat Arizona with 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball Saturday night. He allowed six hits, didn't walk anyone and struck out four. It was his first start without walking a batter; he came in with a 4.97 BB/9.
Insight: Wheeler's start came after Mets manager Terry Collins said the plan to have the young righty pitch in relief later this season to conserve his innings was off the table. Wheeler is expected to remain in the rotation until he hits 180-190 innings combined between the minors and majors. He has around 55-65 innings remaining, so he should be able to finish the season in the rotation.

8/10/2013 7:43:00 PM
Description: Mets starter Zack Wheeler will not pitch in relief this season, according to ESPNNY.com. Mets manager Terry Collins had previously mentioned the idea to conserve the rookie's innings, but he said Saturday that the plan is off the table.
Insight: Collins estimated that Wheeler will be capped at 180-190 innings this season. Heading into Saturday's start against the Diamondbacks, Wheeler had 119 1/3 between the minors and majors, so he should have enough remaining to finish the season as a starter without getting shut down.

7/10/2013 8:27:00 PM
Description: New York rookie Zack Wheeler dominated San Francisco Wednesday in his fifth career major league start.
Insight: Wheeler (7 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K's) couldn't have picked a better time to face the Giants. The defending champs have now lost eight out of nine and are hitting a league-worst .194 in the month of June. The 23-year-old will head into the All-Star break with a 3-1 record.
