Red Wings lock up Helm with four-year deal Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings have agreed to a four- year contract with forward Darren Helm. The deal is worth $8.5 million, according to the Detroit Free Press. Helm, who was set to become a restricted free agent, had nine goals and 17 assists in 68 games last season. He was lost for the postseason after suffering a cut on his forearm in Game 1 of a first-round matchup against Nashville. The 25-year-old Winnipeg native needed surgery to repair lacerated tendons in his right forearm. Detroit lost in five games to the Predators. In addition to being a key penalty-killer, Helm has compiled 32 goals and 51 assists in 248 NHL games, all with the Red Wings. 06/19 11:53:33 ET Powered by The Sports Network. |
