The 2012 Big 12 Conference Player of the Year and was the first AP First-Team All-American for Kansas since 2005, a unanimous selection as well...Finalist for both the John R. Wooden Award and Naismith College Player of the Year honors as a junior as he helped guide the Jayhawks to the national championship game versus Kentucky...Averaged 17.7 points and 11.9 rebounds per game last season, leading the nation in double-doubles with 27, posting 18 points and 17 boards versus the Wildcats in his final outing...His rebounding average was second in the nation overall, while his double-double total set a new single-season standard at Kansas...Became 55th player in school history to score at least 1,000 career points, his 763 rebounds placing him 14th on the all-time list...Against North Dakota on New Year`s Eve 2011, became the first player in a half century to have as many as 30 points and 21 rebounds in a single game for the Jayhawks...Was part of three Big 12 regular-season championships, two Big 12 Tournament titles and a pair of appearances in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament...Persevered through personal tragedy in 2011 when his grandmother, grandfather and mother all passed away within weeks of each other, yet he still returned to the team to play not long after...Displays strong character, determination and ability, having had to wait to take his rightful spot on the floor while players like Marcus and Markieff Morris and Cole Aldrich ranked ahead of him during his first two years in Lawrence.
