Description: Oliver Perez is a professional pitcher once again! In a somewhat surprising move, the Washington Nationals have signed the former Met bust to a minor league deal. Perez had been playing in extended spring training games and, apparently, the Nationals liked what they saw. ANALYSIS One of the biggest headcases in all baseball, Oliver Perez is extraordinarily frustrating. For somebody blessed with such tantalizing talent, he has seldom delivered on it. The Nationals are probably just making a depth move, but it will surely be interesting to watch if Perez pitches well enough to deserve a call-up. Perez is slated to start in Double-A Harrisburg. Description: The Mets have released Perez after a brutal spring.
Insight: The only surprise here is that another name veteran received his walking papers first. Perez was horrendous this spring, and clearly, the team didn't trust him in any staff role. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: Mets RP Oliver Perez will have to wait until the last possible second to know if he will make the Mets roster. SOURCE: Jon Heyman via Twitter
Insight: Perez has minimal fantasy value until it is announced he will be on an MLB roster. If he is in the bullpen for the Mets he only has value in deeper NL-only leagues.

Description: The Mets have decided to move P Oliver Perez from rotation consideration to the lefty-specialist competition in the bullpen. SOURCE: ESPN.com
Insight: Perez's velocity has been low and he still needs to improve his control. Ultimately, expect the Mets to release Perez

Description: With his manager and GM watching on a split-squad day, Perez allowed four hits, two walks and three earned runs in three innings of work Tuesday.
Insight: With seven earned allowed over his first seven spring innings, Perez sure seems headed for a trip out of the rotation. Fortunately, you had to be nuts to consider him a real fantasy option coming into this season. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: The Mets have decided that Oliver Perez will not be a starter for them this year; he is still likely to be released before Opening Day. SOURCE: New York Daily News

3/3/2011 11:11:00 AM
Description: The Mets are close to giving up on P Oliver Perez and could release him if his performance against the Cardinals today does not show significant improvement over Sunday's two-inning, four-run disappointment. SOURCE: New York Daily News
Insight: There is no need to draft Perez in any format right now.

Description: While Mets P Oliver Perez does want to be a starter he is focusing more on the team needs. "I think why I'm here has always been as a starting pitcher," Perez said. "I have to focus about the team. If they need me in the bullpen for one out, or a long reliever or starter, I'm going to be available." SOURCE: New York Post
Insight: Perez's career can best be defined by erratic. If he shows he has matured and can command his pitches he could be a sleeper in NL-only leagues.

Description: Reports show that SP Oliver Perez's fastball was down in 2010 and that he has some spikes in velocity during winter ball. SOURCE: ESPN.com
Insight: Perez was awful in 2010 and unless he improves on both his velocity and, especially, his control, stay away from him in 2011.

10/4/2010 9:02:00 AM
Description: Perez allowed one run on no hits and three walks on Sunday against the Nationals.
Insight: Perez came out of the bullpen and was very wild on his way to losing the game for the Mets. He made only seven starts this year for the Mets and barely pitched in the second half coming out of the bullpen. He failed to record a win and was 0-5 with a 6.80 ERA. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: Oliver Perez hopes to return to the Mets in 2011. SOURCE: ESPN New York
Insight: It is no secret that Perez has struggled with his control and he may want to be back, but the Mets certainly don't want him back. They will have to eat his salary if they cut ties with him, but with the way he has been pitching, he should not be owned in any fantasy leagues.
