Description: Jair Jurrjens has decided to become a free agent. SOURCE: Roch Kubatko, MASN
Insight: The Orioles designated him for assignment last week but he refused his demotion to Triple-A Norfolk. Jurrjens' career has been in free-fall since his great first half in 2011 (12-3, 1.87 before, 4-7, 6.31 in 97 innings after).

7/12/2013 8:47:00 PM
Description: The Orioles designated Jair Jurrjens for assignment on Friday.
Insight: After a shaky season with Atlanta last year, Jurrjens was hoping to resurrect his career with Baltimore. Instead, he only appeared in two games, collecting a 4.91 ERA in 7 1/3 innings. The 27-year-old seems to be running out of options.

5/18/2013 9:13:00 PM
Description: Orioles right-hander Jair Jurrjens gave up four runs on six hits in five innings in his 2013 debut. He struck out five and walked one.
Insight: Jurrjens made the NL All-Star team in 2011, when he went 13-6 with a 2.96 ERA, but he collapsed and had a 6.89 ERA and a 1.86 WHIP in 48 1/3 innings last year with the Braves. He shouldn't be owned in most fantasy leagues.

2/25/2013 1:45:00 PM
Description: Orioles righty Jair Jurrjens was happy with his work in Sunday's spring training game, according to Adam Berry of MLB.com.
Insight: Jurrjens (knee) had to settle for a minor league deal after Baltimore wasn't satisfied with his physical, but was clocked between 91-93 m.p.h. Jurrjens had some good years in Atlanta and could turn out to be a nice pickup for the Orioles. Fantasy owners should take a wait-and-see attitude, but if he looks good throughout the spring, he could be a viable fifth starter on your roster.

Description: Orioles righty Jair Jurrjens tossed a 45-pitch bullpen session Sunday. SOURCE: MLB.com
Insight: Jurrjens (knee) had to settle for a minor league deal after Baltimore wasn't satisfied with his physical. Jurrjens said he's trying to get back to his mechanics from before his right knee injury. He estimated that he has thrown 15 bullpen sessions already this offseason to prove he's healthy.

Description: The Orioles have signed Jair Jurrjens to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. SOURCE: Brittany Ghiroli
Insight: Jurrjens agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million contract with Baltimore in January but the team wasn't satisfied with his physical due to concerns about his knee. He's a near-lock to make the roster.

Description: The Orioles have reportedly signed right-hander Jair Jurrjens to a one-year, $1.5 million contract. SOURCE: Jon Heyman, CBSSports.com
Insight: While Jurrjens posted a 13-6 record and 2.96 ERA and made the NL All-Star team in 2011, we can't recommend drafting him coming off a season in which he had a 6.89 ERA in 48 1/3 innings.

11/7/2012 10:04:00 PM
Description: Braves righthander Jair Jurrjens is drawing trade interest according to Jon Paul Morosi from Fox Sports.
Insight: Jurrjens became expendable once Kris Medlen emerged late in the season. Jurrjens was an All-Star in 2011 and he's still just 26, so the potential is there. He just needs to find more consistency. Perhaps he'll find it by getting a fresh start somewhere else.

7/28/2012 8:03:00 PM
Description: Atlanta righthander Jair Jurrjens has been demoted to the bullpen.
Insight: Jurrjens (3-4, 7.04 ERA) teased us with a pair of strong outings against the Red Sox and Diamondbacks in late June, but since then he's been his usual erratic self (2-2, 8.66 ERA in his last four starts). You can safely drop Jurrjens from your fantasy roster.

Cold7/22/2012 5:48:00 PM
Description: Braves starter Jair Jurrjens was tagged for nine hits and six runs in 2 1/3 innings Sunday against Washington.
Insight: Jurrjens (3-4, 7.04 ERA) has allowed 14 earned runs on 17 hits in 5 2/3 innings over his last two starts after putting together four straight solid outings. It's time to move on for good from the Atlanta right-hander. Even he shows some improvement in his next few starts, the potential payoff doesn't justify the risk.

7/17/2012 10:24:00 PM
Description: Braves starter Jair Jurrjens allowed eight runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings against the Giants Tuesday in his first start of the second half.
Insight: Jurrjens returned to early season form Tuesday, and that's not a good thing. The right-hander went 3-0 with a 2.13 ERA after he was recalled from the minors so you can hold onto him for now, but one or two more poor starts will make him waiver-wire fodder again.

7/8/2012 4:52:00 PM
Description: Braves starter Jair Jurrjens won his third straight decision Sunday against Philadelphia.
Insight: At this point last season, Jurrjens was headed to the All-Star game. After spending all of May and most of June this season at Triple-A, the right-hander has rounded back to form with a 3-0 record and 2.13 ERA in his last four starts.

6/22/2012 11:29:00 PM
Description: Braves starter Jair Jurrjens allowed one run on three hits in 7 2/3 innings Friday against Boston. Jurrjens walked one and struck out four in his big league return.
Insight: Atlanta called up Jurrjens from Triple-A to replace Brandon Beachy even though he went 3-4 with a 5.27 ERA in nine starts with Triple-A Gwinnett. Because of that performance, and because of his 9.37 ERA in four major league starts in April, this effort is a major surprise. Perhaps the right-hander, an All-Star in 2011, will have fantasy value in deeper leagues after all. Don't pounce just yet, but keep him on your radar.

6/17/2012 2:45:00 PM
Description: The Braves have announced that Jair Jurrjens will start in Brandon Beachy's place Friday night against Boston. Jurrjens was 0-2 with a 9.37 ERA in four starts before being demoted to Triple-A in late April.
Insight: We figured that start would go to either Kris Medlen (1-1, 3.26 ERA) or Julio Teheran (0-0, 8.31 ERA) but it looks like Atlanta is going with Jurrjens instead. Jurrjens is 3-4 with a 5.27 ERA in nine starts with Triple-A Gwinnett this season, including a frighteningly awful performance June 1st against Charlotte (4.2 IP, 12 H, 10 R, 2 BBs, 0 Ks). It's hard to believe this guy was an NL All-Star last season. You can ignore Jurrjens in fantasy. In fact, we'd recommend you ignore him.

6/2/2012 9:58:00 PM
Description: Braves pitcher Jair Jurrjens was knocked around by Triple-A Charlotte on Friday. The Knights got to Gwinnett's Jurrjens for 10 runs (six earned) on 12 hits (three homers) in 4 2/3 innings.
Insight: Jurrjens was sent to the minors in April to work out some issues after he gave up 17 runs in 16 1/3 innings in his first four starts of the season. It's gone just as poorly for Jurrjens at Triple-A. The right-hander, who went 13-6 with a 2.96 ERA last season and was drafted in 98 percent of Yahoo! leagues this year, has a 5.56 ERA in seven starts for Gwinnett. He's allowed 28 runs (22 earned) on 38 hits in his last 21 2/3 innings. Those holding onto Jurrjens hoping he can return to form can safely drop the righty now, as there's no guarantee he'll return to the major leagues this season.

3/16/2012 11:31:00 AM
Description: Jair Jurrjens got hit pretty hard Thursday against the Phillies. He allowed four runs on nine hits in four innings.
Insight: It's been a tough spring for Jurrjens, who has a 9.73 ERA in his three starts. Which Jurrjens will we see this season, the one who had a 1.87 ERA before the All-Star break, or the one who had an ERA of 5.88 after the break? It's been a Jekyll and Hyde tale for Jurrjens. Hopefully you've got better starting pitching options because right now Jurrjens is a huge fantasy risk.

8/17/2011 10:45:00 AM
Description: Atlanta Braves pitcher Jair Jurrjens is expected to start on Wednesday against the San Francisco Giants.
Insight: Jurrjens has pitched very well this season (12-4, 2.63 ERA, 1.145 WHIP) and the light-hitting Giants are a good matchup for his return.

8/6/2011 11:37:00 PM
Description: Atlanta Braves pitcher Jair Jurrjens was placed on the disabled list retroactive to August 2nd with a strained right knee.
Insight: This one is going to hurt fantasy owners. Jurrjens was having an excellent season, going 12-4 with an ERA of 2.63 and a WHIP of 1.145. It's the same knee he had surgery on last fall.

7/7/2011 11:08:00 AM
Description: Braves SP Jair Jurrgens allowed one run and five hits, walking just two over six innings of work as the Braves rocked the Rockies, 9-1, Wednesday night.
Insight: Jurrjens is now 12-3 on the season and has allowed no more than one run in four straight starts, leaving his NL-leading ERA at 1.87. The ironic thing is that manager Freddie Gonzalez didn't think Jurrjens had his best stuff last night. That shows you how good he's been recently. "He was good. Maybe not as good as we've seen him," said Gonzalez of Jurrjens. Jurrjens took a no-hitter into the seventh inning of his 4-0, one-hit shutout of Baltimore on Friday night. He also was strong early against the Rockies, recording 10 straight outs before giving up Jonathan Herrera's single with one out in the fourth.

5/25/2011 9:56:00 AM
Description: Jurrjens throws another gem on Tuesday night against the Pirates as he worked 7 2/3 innings and struck out six without allowing a run.
Insight: The latest stud for the Braves pitching staff now lowers his ERA to 1.56 on the year.
