Description: Angels reliever Scott Downs injured his right foot in Thursday's game and is not expected to be available for Friday's game against the Chicago White Sox.
Insight: Downs isn't much of a fantasy value unless holds are a category. He's 0-2 with a 2.92 ERA and 1.54 WHIP.

5/12/2012 9:36:00 PM
Description: Angels closer Scott Downs appeared on Saturday for the first time since he twisted his knee on May 6. The LHP picked up his third save of the season by getting the final out of the game.
Insight: Angels manager Mike Scioscia brought Ernesto Frieri into the game in the eighth inning and left him in for the ninth with three righties due up, but Frieri hit Nelson Cruz leading off the inning, causing lefty David Murphy to come to the plate. Scioscia then opted for the lefty-lefty matchup with Downs. Former closer Jordan Walden threw a perfect seventh inning, and he figures to get another crack at the role eventually this season, but right now Downs, Frieri and even Latroy Hawkins look more likely to get save chances.

5/9/2012 8:36:00 PM
Description: Scott Downs will be available to close tonight against the Twins. Downs has been out since Sunday because of a knee injury.
Insight: It looks like order has finally been restored in the Angels' bullpen. With Jordan Walden off to a rough start, Downs (0.00) looks like the guy to own from the Anaheim pen.

5/8/2012 8:44:00 PM
Description: Scott Downs (knee) threw off a mound today and says he expects to be available to pitch again Wednesday night against Minnesota.
Insight: Downs was forced to exit the game Sunday after tweaking his knee but it doesn't look like he's in too much pain now. Expect Downs to resume his position as the Angels' closer within the next couple of days. Downs still hasn't allowed a run in 11 appearances out of the bullpen this year.

5/7/2012 7:18:00 PM
Description: Angels closer Scott Downs is day-to-day after suffering a left knee contusion in the ninth inning Sunday against Toronto.
Insight: Our guess is that Downs will be unavailable for at least the next couple of days. With LaTroy Hawkins also injured, will manager Mike Scoscia dare to bring Jordan Walden (6.75) in in the ninth inning? It might be his only choice.

5/6/2012 10:34:00 PM
Description: Scott Downs went down with a knee injury Sunday against the Blue Jays and was replaced by LaTroy Hawkins, who recorded the game's final two outs for his first save of the season.
Insight: This would have been a good chance for Jordan Walden to reclaim his role as the Angels' closer after losing his job earlier in the year but apparently he still hasn't worked his way out Mike Scoscia's dog house. Expect Hawkins to be L.A.'s best option for saves if Downs is forced to endure a stint on the DL.

4/28/2012 7:28:00 PM
Description: Scott Downs is making the most of his new role as the team's closer. In his first save opportunity of the season, Downs pitched a perfect ninth to preserve the Angels' 2-1 win.
Insight: It was Downs' 18th career save. The 36-year-old lefthander is still in possession of a perfect ERA so don't expect Jordan Walden to steal back the closer's job from Downs any time soon.

4/27/2012 8:38:00 PM
Description: With Jordan Walden struggling, Scott Downs has been moved into the closer's role.
Insight: It's not necessarily permanent, but Downs has been impressive so far this season (0.00 ERA in eight appearances) while Walden has been the opposite (8.34 ERA).

Description: Angels have activated pitcher Scott Downs from the 15-day disabled list. SOURCE: Rotoworld
Insight: Downs has found himself on the disabled list a couple of times this season and he is getting older, so consider him a low end-option in AL-only formats once he does return.

4/11/2011 6:16:00 AM
Description: The Angels have activated Scott Downs from the DL.
Insight: Don't be surprised to see Downs get in on some save opportunities when the situation calls for a lefty. He could be the Angels best reliever.

Insight: If Fernando Rodney falters, Downs was scheduled to get the next shot at saves. Follow is rehab to see how quickly he returns.

Description: Scott Downs has agreed to a three-year $15 million deal with the Angels. SOURCE: KEN ROSENTHAL
Insight: Don't expect Downs to get more than a couple saves next year so he isn't worth using in mixed leagues. However, he will be an effective lefty specialist for L.A., meaning that AL-Only owners will be happy to have him.

Description: It appears that the Red Sox will sign RP Scott Downs. SOURCE: Ed Price via Twitter
Insight: As a Type A free agent teams would have forfeited a first round pick for Downs. Since the Red Sox will give that pick to the Rays for Carl Crawford, Downs will only cost them a second-round pick, which makes it easier to justify signing him.

Description: Blue Jays RP Scott Downs will reject arbitration. SOURCE: Fox Sports
Insight: Downs has pitched well in the competitive AL East and will certainly draw interest as a free agent; it will be interesting to see if his Type A free agent status hurts him in negotiations.

Hot5/16/2009 7:12:00 PM
Description: Downs tossed a scoreless inning in Saturday's win over the Chicago White Sox, notching his fourth save of the season.
Insight: Downs has been exceptional all season except for one outing on May 9, during which he allowed three runs and five hits in one frame. Aside from that, he's yielded one run in 2009. Continue to keep him in your lineup. (SportsBuff.com)

Hot5/3/2009 11:18:00 PM
Description: Downs tossed a scoreless ninth inning Sunday to notch his third save of the season.
Insight: Downs, whose ERA is at 0.66, has been unhittable this season. He's surrendered just seven hits in 13 2/3 innings, without walking a batter. He also has 17 strikeouts. As long as B.J. Ryan is hurt or ineffective, Downs is the Jays' closer. (SportsBuff.com)
