Description: Carlos Silva has been released by the Boston Red Sox.
Insight: The Carlos Silva experiment ended before it began in Boston. Shoulder issues prevented Silva from ever appearing in a spring training game with the Red Sox. Silva was a longshot to make Boston's rotation even if he was healthy. He could land elsewhere at some point but don't expect him to provide much fantasy value: Silva hasn't pitched in the majors since 2010.

Insight: It is unlikely that he can have any fantasy value. For that to happen he would need to be signed by a team, put in their rotation and pitch effectively. All three things are unlikely to happen.

Description: The Chicago Cubs released SP Carlos Silva on Sunday. SOURCE: ESPN.com
Insight: His temper tantrum after being released certainly won't endear him to many other clubs that might have considered him. Silva is not worth having on a roster in any format right now.

3/27/2011 1:29:00 PM
Description: Carlos Silva was released by Chicago.
Insight: We doubt that he will get a deal elsewhere, especially not a major league deal. After a poor spring he might be content to go home and collect the $11+ million that the Cubs owe him for this season.

Description: The Cubs have told Silva that he won't make the roster out of spring training and said they'll try to trade him.
Insight: Good luck with that. Trading for Silva was an OK move only because the deal sent Milton Bradley the other way. The contract that came with him, though, never seemed like a good idea to anyone outside of Seattle. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: Carlos Silva was released by the Chicago Cubs today. SOURCE: CBSSports.com
Insight: Silva is owed $11.5M if he declines to go to the minors, to which Silva has said "there's no chance". He might have been a fifth starter option in NL only leagues. He'll end up somewhere, but he should only be considered a free agent pickup during the season when he's on another staff and pitching well.

Description: The Cubs right hander Carlos Silva was awful again on Monday going 2 1/3 and giving up 8 ER on 10 hits. This is coming on the heels of a dug out scuffle with 3B Aramis Ramirez during his last start.
Insight: I wouldn't even target Silva as a spot starter at this point. I wouldn't even be that surprised if he isn't the Cubs fifth starter come opening day.

Description: The Cubs' Carlos Silva and Aramis Ramirez were involved in an altercation in the dugout today. SOURCE: PAUL SULLIVAN
Insight: The incident followed a rough inning for Silva. The Cubs won't punish either player. The team has played sloppy baseball so far this spring so maybe this will wake them up.

Description: Carlos Silva believes that he already has a rotation spot locked up based on his work last season. SOURCE: CHICAGOBREAKINGSPORTS.COM
Insight: He is probably right but it's pretty bold to already say it. Silva is a great candidate to perform worse this season and should be avoided in mixed leagues.

Description: MLB.com's Carrie Muskrat reports, via Twitter, that Silva (right elbow) will miss his next scheduled start with a strained right elbow.
Insight: Jeff Samardzija will start on Monday against St. Louis, and Silva can probably be dropped in fantasy leagues if you haven't already done so. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: Carlos Silva will miss his next start because of a strained elbow. SOURCE: CARRIE MUSKAT ON TWITTER
Insight: He should be dropped in all leagues. He isn't good enough to be considered when he is slightly hurt.

9/8/2010 5:49:00 AM
Description: Carlos Silva gave up six runs in five innings last night after coming off the DL earlier in the day.
Insight: We don't believe that he will be useful in September. He had a nice run earlier in the season but it probably wouldn't have lasted even if he didn't get hurt.

9/7/2010 5:52:00 PM
Description: Carlos Silva was activated from the DL today.
Insight: He will start tonight but we don't recommend using him in fantasy baseball leagues until he shows a quality start.

9/4/2010 11:04:00 PM
Description: MLB.com's Carrie Muskrat reports Silva (heart) is scheduled to start for the Cubs on Tuesday.
Insight: Silva will take the spot of the injured Tom Gorzelanny in the Cubs' starting rotation, and he could remain in the starting rotation for the rest of the season. (RapidDraft.com)

8/30/2010 7:05:00 PM
Description: MLB.com's Carrie Muskrat reports, via Twitter, that Silva (heart) will make his second rehab start on Wednesday with Single-A Peoria.
Insight: Silva may return to the Cubs after this outing if all goes well. Stay tuned. (SportsBuff.com)

Description: Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun Times reports, via Twitter, that Silva (heart) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignement with Single-A Peoria on Friday.
Insight: The Cubs will ease Silva back into action, but he could return to the team around mid-September. (SportsBuff.com)

8/24/2010 11:04:00 AM
Description: The Chicago Sun Times reports Silva (heart) will throw a side session on Tuesday before possibly starting a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday.
Insight: Silva has been sidelined since August 1 after suffering from an irregular heartbeat. It seems he could pitch again before the season is over. (SportsBuff.com)

8/16/2010 10:02:00 PM
Description: MLB.com's Carrie Muskrat reports, via Twitter, that Silva (hear) threw a light bullpen session on Monday.
Insight: Silva will apparently throw on the side again on Wednesday, and appears to be making nice progress after suffering from an irregular heartbeat a couple weeks ago. (SportsBuff.com)

8/6/2010 5:10:00 PM
Description: Cubs SP Carlos Silva is scheduled to have his heart examined on Monday and might have a procedure to correct a problem with his heartbeat. The Cubs say the examination will determine if he needs a procedure to correct the issue. The procedure usually involves running a catheter from the groin to the heart. It can also be done through open-heart surgery. SOURCE: Yahoo Sports
Insight: Silva was surprisingly effective this season. With the Cubs out of the race, it would not be shocking to see Silva sit out the remainder of the season.

8/6/2010 2:40:00 PM
Description: ESPN Chicago.com reports Silva (heart) will undergo a heart catheterization on Monday to determine if he needs a cardiac ablation.
Insight: Mark DeRosa underwent a similar procedure a couple years ago, and was back playing in 10 days. There's no definite timetable for Silva's return, but he is expected to pitch again this season. (SportsBuff.com)
