Description: Giants second baseman Freddy Sanchez underwent season-ending back surgery on Thursday.
Insight: Sanchez is always a threat to hit .300 when he's healthy but unfortunately for fantasy owners, that doesn't occur very often. He didn't play a single game this season and since 2009, Sanchez has missed 287 of his team's 569 games.

Description: Freddy Sanchez has encountered yet another setback in his return from shoulder surgery. He won't be able to continue his rehab again for at least five days.
Insight: Sanchez had been targeting a Mid-May return but that's looking doubtful at this point. We'll learn more after we get the results from Sanchez's MRI, taken earlier today.

4/22/2012 4:55:00 PM
Description: Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment on Monday, according to the Giants official website.
Insight: Sanchez hopes to play the field by the middle of the week. However, even when he does return, he doesn't have much fantasy value outside of deep NL-only leagues. The oft-injured Sanchez hasn't played more than 111 games since 2008, including just 60 last season. He doesn't contribute above average production in any category, so it's likely you can find a better option at second base.

Description: Following a setback in his rehab from shoulder surgery, Freddy Sanchez's return to the majors has been pushed back until early May.
Insight: It's been a rough start to the year for San Francisco with Brian Wilson's injury, Tim Lincecum's struggles and now this news that Sanchez's recovery from surgery is taking longer than expected. Unfortunately, neither of Sanchez's replacements (Emmanuel Burriss and Ryan Theriot) have any fantasy relevance.

Description: Freddy Sanchez has encountered a setback in his rehab from offseason shoulder surgery.
Insight: Sanchez (.289, 3 HRs, 24 RBIs last season) was supposed to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday. Now it looks like he won't be able to begin the assignment until later in the week.

3/29/2012 3:49:00 PM
Description: Freddy Sanchez will begin the 2012 season on the disabled list. Sanchez is still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
Insight: Sanchez has had a hard time staying healthy since coming to San Francisco (153 games missed the past two seasons). This opens the door for newcomer Ryan Theriot (.271, HR, 47 RBIs in 2011) to start at second base for the Giants until Sanchez is healthy.

3/26/2011 11:05:00 PM
Description: Sanchez reportedly left Saturday's game early because of a head injury he suffered while sliding into second.
Insight: We'll await further details on this one. Of course, Sanchez doesn't offer much more than average in roto formats, so his situation shouldn't stall anyone's draft/season prep. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: Freddy Sanchez not only thinks that he will be ready for opening day but also that he miss only be slightly delayed in spring training following off-season shoulder surgery. SOURCE: SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE
Insight: Don't downgrade Sanchez yet, unless we see him significantly delayed in spring training. That being said, with minimal speed and power he isn't much of a mixed league option.

10/28/2010 4:44:00 AM
