Getzlaf off to slow start

Ryan Getzlaf missed most of the preseason recovering from sports hernia surgery.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Anaheim Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf was a first-round selection in many fantasy drafts (No.3 overall in my draft), but so far this season he hasn't lived up to those lofty expectations.

The 24-year-old, who posted 91 points last season (25G, 66A), went the first seven games this year without putting one behind a goaltender. Finally, on Wednesday night, Getzlaf scored his first goal of the season in a 4-2 loss to Dallas at the Honda Center. It was his first point in four games.

The slow start should not be unexpected, however, because Getzlaf missed most of the preseason recovering from sports hernia surgery.

Getzlaf is on a line with former Flyers winger Joffrey Lupul (2G, 2A) and another first-round draft selection Corey Perry (4G, 4A). Getzlaf's numbers have increased in each of his four NHL seasons and just because he has gotten off the a slow beginning is no reason to panic.

It's early, just eight games in, and there is no reason to begin trade talks with other fantasy owners. In fact, trading at this point would be like selling low after buying high...not a good way to make a profit. Despite his start, Getzlaf could still put up a 100-point season.
