Thornton worthy of your attention

Marcus Thornton is getting around 29 minutes-per-game.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - While rookie point guard Darren Collison has received huge coverage as an able substitute for superstar guard Chris Paul during his time on the injured list, another New Orleans Hornets guard has also been very production - Marcus Thornton.

Thornton's playing time had been increasing even while Paul was playing, but after the end-of-January injury, the 6'4" former LSU shooting guard's numbers have exploded. Despite coming off the bench (Morris Peterson still starts), Thornton is getting around 29 minutes-per-game and hoisting up 15 shots-per- night.

Over the 10 games in February, Thornton, a second-round draft pick of the Miami Heat, averaged 18.8 ppg and 3.8 rpg while shooting better than 45% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc. He started off March in even better fashion, posting 30 points and seven rebounds on Monday night against the San Antonio Spurs.

In the past eight game, the two rookies guards have accounted for 43.8% of the Hornets' scoring, combining for no fewer than 30 points in a game.

With Paul still at least two weeks away, both Collison and Thornton could be a great temporary replacements for all the injured guards out there. However, Collison is unlikely to be available (owned in 74% of all fantasy leagues) while Thornton is owned in just over half of all leagues (52%).
