(SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia 76ers hope to avoid further
embarrassment when they wrap up a three-game western road trip Wednesday
against the Utah Jazz.
The Sixers have been annihilated in each of their last two games, suffering a
123-78 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers and 123-80 setback Monday against the
Golden State Warriors. The Sixers shot 27 percent against the Clippers, then
made 36.7 percent of their shots in Golden State.
Rookie Michael Carter-Williams led Philadelphia with 24 points on Monday,
while Evan Turner and Thaddeus Young both scored 12.
"If a team's more talented than us we have to work harder, and that's
something we've failed to do the last two games," Carter-Williams said.
Philadelphia became the second team in NBA history to lose back-to-back games
by 40-plus points. The 1993-94 Sixers also accomplished the feat. They lost to
the New York Knicks 130-82 on Apr. 21, 1994 before dropping their next game
against the Indiana Pacers 133-88 the following night.
The 76ers, losers of seven straight, are 3-17 since a season-high four-game
winning streak and have lost four straight on the road. They have a 7-20 road
ledger this season.
Philly will start a five-game homestand after the All-Star break.
Utah has won two in a row against the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers after
losing four straight.
In Tuesday's 96-79 road triumph over the Lakers, Alec Burks scored 24 points
off the bench and Gordon Hayward totaled 15 points, eight rebounds and seven
assists for the Jazz, who made 43.5 percent of their shots.
"Everybody was aggressive tonight. We picked up the pace and got some stops,"
Burks said afterward.
Derrick Favors recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Jazz and Sixers split two meetings a season ago with each team holding
serve as the host. Utah has won nine of the last 12 meetings with
Philadelphia, which is winless in eight straight and 11 of 12 trips to Salt
