Parker, Spurs take 3-2 lead on Mavs

San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - New dad Tony Parker scored 23 points on a sprained ankle and the San Antonio Spurs beat the Dallas Mavericks 109-103 on Wednesday in Game 5 of their first-round Western Conference playoff series.

The Spurs have won two in a row to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series heading into Friday's Game 6 in Dallas.

They never trailed but were rarely comfortably ahead in the game.

Vince Carter, whose buzzer-beater won Game 3 for Dallas, scored a game-high 28 points in this one, shooting 7-for-9 on 3-pointers.

The Spurs got a lot from center Tiago Splitter down the stretch to hang on.
