Braves avoid arbitration with Walden

Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Atlanta Braves and pitcher Jordan Walden have agreed to a one-year contract for 2014, avoiding salary arbitration.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported the pact to be worth $1.49 million.

Walden was 4-3 with a 3.45 ERA and one save in 50 relief appearances last season, his first with the Braves. He was acquired from the Angels in a November 2012 deal that sent pitcher Tommy Hanson to the west coast.

The 26-year-old right-hander had 32 saves in 2011 with the Angels and owns a career mark of 12-11 with a 3.17 ERA in 173 games out of the bullpen in four big league seasons.
