Jaromir Jagr, RWHot10/30/2013 5:37:00 PM

Insight: When Jagr scored his 118th game-winning goal last season, it was widely reported that Jagr had tied Phil Esposito for the most game-winning goals in NHL history and the Bruins even started putting that information in Jagr's profile in their media game notes. Description: Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur will start Saturday at Boston.
Insight: Brodeur has had a miserable start to the season, going 0-2-2 with a 3.40 GAA and an .865 SV%. He admitted this week that Cory Schneider is now the No. 1 netminder in New Jersey, but we can't see the Devils taking their future Hall of Famer out of the goalie rotation entirely. A 70-30 split is likely if Schneider keeps playing well.
Patrik Elias, C10/24/2013 12:33:00 PM
Description: New Jersey center Patrick Elias is questionable for Thursday's game against Vancouver while dealing with the flu.
Insight: Elias has a pair of goals ands two assists in seven games and is still a major fantasy force even at 37-years old. He should be back soon as he did some skating on Wednesday.

Description: Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur said that Cory Schneider is "in the net now to stay." "I don’t see that’s going to be changed any time soon," Brodeur said. "I’ll be ready if it is, but I think we’ve got to try to win some games somehow. This is what (coach Pete DeBoer) feels is the best opportunity for him to be successful is having (Schneider) in the net and that’s fine. If we win, everybody’s happy. Even though I don’t play, it’s more enjoyable to be around." SOURCE: Bergen Record
Insight: Schneider has a 2.21 GAA and a .917 SV% in five games, while Brodeur has played four games and owns a 3.40 GAA and an .865 SV%. The Devils aren't going to completely stop playing the 41-year-old future Hall of Famer, but we could see a 70-30 split in the starts going forward.
Cory Schneider, G10/22/2013 5:39:00 PM

Description: New Jersey center Damien Brunner is expected to be a game-time decision ahead of Saturday's 7 p.m. start against the Rangers. SOURCE: The Bergen Record
Insight: The Devils wouldn't reveal his injury, just saying that Brunner is "dealing with some nagging stuff." It sounds like the usual wear and tear of a grinding season and nothing serious. Our money's on Brunner suiting up tonight against the Blue Shirts.

Description: New Jersey center Patrick Elias is dealing with the flu and probably won't be able to take the ice Saturday night against the Rangers. SOURCE: The Bergen Record

Insight: Clowe was hit in the right foot by a puck in the second period. "Everything was good, Clowe said. "It was just swollen the last couple of days. It felt good on the ice. The hardest part was getting it in the skate, but once I got out there it was fine" Clowe sounds likely to play Friday at Calgary.
Cory Schneider, G10/8/2013 5:49:00 PM
Description: Devils netminder Cory Schneider will start Tuesday's starter against the Canucks, his former team.
Insight: Roberto Luongo's contract made it difficult to move him so the Canucks decided to trade Schneider instead. The 27-year-old Schneider gave up three goals in a season-opening loss to Pittsburgh and will continue to split starts with Martin Brodeur.
Michael Ryder, RW10/4/2013 10:21:00 PM

Insight: David Clarkson, who signed with Toronto in the offseason, led the Devils in 2012-13 with 180 SOG, 47 more than any other player on the team. The Devils need someone to take his place and Brunner will be one of the options.
Cory Schneider, G10/3/2013 9:41:00 PM
Description: Goaltender Cory Schneider allowed three goals on just 21 shots in his Devils debut Thursday at Pittsburgh.
Insight: Schneider had a shaky start last year before going 17-9 with a 2.11 GAA and a .927 SV%, so we're hardly worried.

Description: Devils forward Patrik Elias (undisclosed) will play Thursday against the Penguins, according to NHL.com.

Description: Netminder Cory Schneider will make his Devils debut Thursday versus Pittsburgh.

Patrik Elias, LW10/1/2013 9:27:00 PM
Description: Devils forward Patrik Elias (undisclosed) practiced Tuesday and should be able to play in the season opener Thursday.

Description: The Devils have signed Damien Brunner to a two-year, $5 million contract, according to Rich Chere of NJ.com.
Insight: The Devils brought in Brunner on a tryout contract and he impressed during training camp. As a rookie with the Detroit Red Wings last season, the former Swiss league star scored 12 goals and had 26 points in 44 games. He could play a top-six role with New Jersey and is worth a late-round draft pick.

He just wanted to play closer to home, which he now has the opportunity to do by playing in Russia. Kovalchuk's decision to leave the United States for Europe has already generated plenty of controversy. Jeremy Roenick, who played in the NHL from 1988 to 2009, had this to say on his Twitter account: "Kovalchuk is as selfish as they come!!! I'm appalled ... Hey Ilya, hope u live comfortably in Russia w the money u made from the 23 million u stole from the devils."
Ilya Kovalchuk, RW7/11/2013 4:45:00 PM
Description: Devils forward Ilya Kovalchuk has walked away from $77 million in future salary by announcing his retirement from the NHL.
Insight: "This decision was something I have thought about for a long time going back to the lockout and spending the year in Russia. Though I decided to return this past season, Lou (general manager Lou Lamoriello) was aware of my desire to go back home and have my family there with me. The most difficult thing for me is to leave the New Jersey Devils, a great organization that I have a lot of respect for, and our fans that have been great to me." Kovalchuk will likely sign with a KHL team.
Ryane Clowe, RW7/6/2013 8:25:00 PM
Description: Renaud Lavoie from RDS is reporting that right wing Ryan Clowe has agreed to a five-year, $24.25 million contract with New Jersey.
Insight: He won't have to travel far as the Devils play just 20 miles south of Manhattan where Clowe finished up his 2013 campaign with the New York Rangers. Clowe only produced three goals in 2013 but he made up for it by handing out 16 assists.
Patrik Elias, LW7/1/2013 9:24:00 PM
Description: The Bergen Record reports that New Jersey is close to re-signing left wing Patrick Elias.
Insight: The 37-year-old registered 36 points in 48 games last season. He's been with the Devils since 1995 and will probably spend the rest of his career in New Jersey.
Cory Schneider, G6/30/2013 4:32:00 PM
Description: In perhaps the biggest trade of this year's draft (at least so far) the Canucks sent goalie Cory Schneider to the Devils for the ninth overall pick.
Insight: We thought for sure if Vancouver was going to trade one of its goalies it would have been Roberto Luongo. Instead, Schneider is the one packing his bags. Schneider should become the starter in New Jersey at some point though in 2013-14 he'll probably have to settle for a timeshare with veteran Martin Brodeur.
Adam Henrique, C4/25/2013 5:04:00 PM
Description: Devils center Adam Henrique was a healthy scratch Tuesday but he'll return to action Thursday against Pittsburgh, according to the Bergen Record.
Insight: Henrique missed the first two weeks of the season while recovering from an injury and he has been a major disappointment since then. After posting four goals and six points in his first seven games, Henrique has seven goals and 10 points in his last 33 games.
Johan Hedberg, G4/25/2013 1:54:00 PM
Description: Devils backup goaltender Johan Hedberg will start between the pipes Thursday versus Pittsburgh.
Insight: Hedberg hasn't played since March 19 after turning in a lackluster performance while Martin Brodeur was on injured reserve. He has a 5-9-3 record and a .886 SV% this season.
David Clarkson, RW4/20/2013 9:51:00 PM
Description: Devils winger David Clarkson had a goal and an assist Saturday against Florida.
Insight: This season started out so well for Clarkson, as he had 10 goals and 17 points over his first 20 games, but even with Saturday's output he has just four goals and six points over his last 24 games. Overall, he's on a similar pace to last season, when he had 30 goals and 46 points in 80 games. Per 82 games this season, he's on a 26-goal and 43-point pace.
Patrik Elias, LW4/20/2013 9:35:00 PM
Description: Devils winger Patrik Elias notched a pair of goals Saturday against Florida.
Insight: Elias had 22 points in 20 games over the first two months but he has just 11 points in 24 games since the start of March.
Ilya Kovalchuk, RW4/20/2013 4:57:00 PM
Description: Devils winger Ilya Kovalchuk (shoulder) returned to action Saturday against the Panthers.
Insight: Kovalchuk had not played since March 23 due to a shoulder injury. He skated nearly 23 minutes Saturday.
