Description: Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford went 2-for-5 with three RBI in the, 10-8, victory over the Rockies in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.
Insight: Crawford had an RBI-single in the fourth and then a two-run triple in the fifth. Crawford also scored in the fourth. He has been one of the biggest surprises this season as he is hitting .303/.385/.514 with six home runs, 31 RBI and 22 runs in 142 at-bats this season.
Description: Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias left Saturday's game against the Astros with a bruised left knee.
Insight: Iglesias hit his knee against Chris Carter's knee in the third. Iglesias didn't leave right away, but Hernan Perez pinch ran for him when Iglesias singled in the fifth. Consider the shortstop day-to-day.
Description: Mariners infielder Willie Bloomquist hit the game-winning two-run double in the third as Seattle defeated Toronto, 3-2, on Saturday.
Insight: Bloomquist only has 38 at-bats this season, but he came into the game 20-for-44 in his career versus Mark Buehrle, so Bloomquist was a great daily play. He rewarded those who rolled the dice on him as he had a two-run double in the third inning that proved to be the game-winner.
Description: Mariners infielder Willie Bloomquist could get a rare start on Saturday and if he does, he might be worth a flier.
Insight: Bloomquist is a career .455 hitter versus Blue Jays starter Mark Buehrle (20-for-44) with nine extra-base hits and a 1.160 OPS. He's only seen 34 at-bats all season, so this would be a 'Hail Mary." Update: Bloomquist is in the starting lineup playing right field and batting second.
Description: Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias is out of the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Astros.
Insight: Just a rest day for Iglesias. He's batting .328 with an .808 OPS and six stolen bases. Solid numbers from a bottom of the order guy. Andrew Romine will get the start and he's batting .346 this season in limited action.
Description: Houston third baseman Luis Valbuena may not hit for much of an average, but on Sunday he bashed his 10th home run of the season.
Insight: Valbuena's career high is 16 home runs from a season ago and it appears that he'll improve on that number in 2015 as long as he keeps getting his at-bats. We'd like to see him hit closer to .250, however.
Description: Dodgers shortstop Jimmy Rollins was 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs in the, 6-4, victory over the Rockies on Friday.
Insight: Rollins hit a solo home run in the first and then had an RBI-single in the fifth. He is only batting .198 this season, but perhaps this is a breakout game for Rollins. It would be nice if this gets him going.
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura, a late scratch on Wednesday due to a bad finger, has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: Hector Gomez is likely the starting at shortstop until he returns, the the team brought up Luis Sardinas who can also play there. Segura has been improved this season, batting .262 with 14 runs, 12 RBI and six steals.
Description: Angels shortstop Erick Aybar is 14-for-33 (.424) versus Astros starting pitcher Scott Feldman.
Insight: Aybar has five extra-base hits and three RBI against Feldman as well. Hopefully this friendly matchup for Aybar gets him going. He is hitting .224/.274/.241 with 11 RBI and eight runs this season.
Description: White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored in the, 8-2, victory over the Reds in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday.
Insight: Ramirez had a two-run homer to start the scoring in the second and then scored in the fourth on Gordon Beckham's single. Ramirez is hitting just .237 with two home runs, 13 RBI and 10 runs, but he is 7-for-16 with two home runs and four RBI in his last four games.
Description: Red Sox left fielder Hanley Ramirez (.283, 10 HR, 22 RBI) is back in the lineup for Saturday's tilt with Toronto.
Insight: Ramirez ran into the side wall at Fenway Park last Monday and strained his shoulder. He's a huge part of the Red Sox offense and its good to have him back in the lineup. Make sure to put him back in your lineup too.
