Kaleta's season over after ACL tear

Newark, NJ ( - Patrick Kaleta won't be back in the NHL this season after all.

Sabres head coach Ted Nolan confirmed to the Buffalo News on Saturday that the embattled 27-year-old suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in a 5-3 win on Friday for the Rochester Americans over the Lake Erie Monsters.

After serving a 10-game suspension for his illegal hit upon Columbus defenseman Jack Johnson on Oct. 10, the Sabres placed Kaleta on waivers. He cleared the following day and was assigned to the Amerks.

Nolan told the paper that Kaleta was set to re-join the Sabres for practice on Monday and was likely to play next Thursday against the Rangers.

Kaleta has 27 goals and 24 assists to go along with 506 penalty minutes in 306 career contests with the Sabres.
